Right to free speech and the right to peaceably assemble. Could'nt find the the "Right to protest".
All Constitutional rights are granted as long as they don't infringe on anothers rights. Protestors locking down roadways causing city wide gridlock and unsafe public conditions seems like infringment on others civil rights.
The first ammendmant is freedom of speech and right to protest, as long as everything was peacfule WHICH IT WAS then there is no reason to start gassing or pushing people out of there.

What's not shown in this video: several businesses had their store front windows broken, including non-corporate, locally owned businesses.
These people weren't protesters, they were college kids looking for excitement and action. They were ordered to disperse, they didn't. The cops are on the look out for rioters, so if you stand there like a slack-jawed moron when they tell you to go home, you bet your ass you're going to get gassed. And I don't even LIKE cops... Just use your HEAD.
corporations acting as de facto governments = current situation
our 'governments' have nothing to do with the people, they are operating in commerce only, this is nothing personal just business as usual (except that it is deceitful, coercive and fraudulent), therefore the contracts are BROKEN
This is why the American "democracy" is the longest running joke in the world. Just weeks ago we've witnessed same exact action take place in Iran and the American president condemning those actions. The only difference is that they don't use real ammo. Not anymore at least - always remember kent state. Things like this take place often enough - Sean Bell shooting in NYC, the execution style murder in Oakland etc etc... what's it going to take huh?
I do appreciate the arguing maturely now though. Agree or disagree, people take you more serious when you approach the argument with respect and courtesy. Nothing disgusts me more than human beings who are supposedly intelligent resorting to poop throwing. It was a good debate. I gotta run though.
$50,000 in property damage... Breaking shop windows out in Oakland? Yeah. Nothing wrong. They knew damned well they needed a permit to demonstrate, and they just refused. Matter of principle, whatever. What the hell did people expect would happen? Cops show up, try to disperse the crowd, crowd gets angry, somebody pushes, somebody pushes back... and then people here try to compare those police officers to the Gulag or Nazis or whoever?
First of all - requesting a permit to demonstrate is in direct violation of the American Constitution - freedom of assembly - second of all, there are plenty of witnesses, some incidents are actually clearly documented right here on youtube of police dressing up as protesters and instigating rioting by shoving, pushing and going as far as throwing rocks. $50, 000 or INSURED damages, believe me, nobody is complaining and everyone is making money, isn't that what it's all about in the end anyway?
Hell, I had to stand in the rain and snow for two months waiting for the bus because students burned down the bus stop. So I think it VERY plausible that stuff like that was happening. Especially since crap like that was happening all over the place. On the side of the cops, I'm sure it can be very difficult to sort out the trouble makers from the lawful protesters, so its easier to make them leave, if they had no permission to be there in the first place.
Well, first of all, you didn't see all that was going on there. There could have been stuff like what that person point out above. Dumpsters being put on fire etc etc which is VERY possible. Pittsburgh students did much the same during the Steeler super bowl. They overturned cars etc. Also, if you are against the acquiring of a permit to hold a peaceful demonstration of people, then you are basically accepting that its okay to obstruct traffic, stomp all over private property rights, etc.
well first of all a permit is legally a term for leave to engage in an activity that would otherwise be illegal hence they are saying protest is illegal. That is enough to remove them and second if there is someone who damages property then arrest that person not everyone
Public safety officials said Friday night that 83 people were arrested at protests and other events and about $50,000 in property damage was done during the two-day summit, which ended Friday. They said a man who smashed store and business windows in the city's Oakland section on Thursday night was responsible for about $20,000 in damage.
was that the ppl in the video no then why were they targeted.Because they don't want any decent they want sheep to do as told fallow the law even if the law says to walk off a cliff and kill yourself that is about what they are saying to us these days
The constitution may protect free speech and the right to LAWFUL assembly. That is the key word there. I bet you also think the constitution guarantees our right to free socialized healthcare too don't you?
Hey Iclisious, are you capable of real debate or do you just like to resort to personal attacks? Personal attacks is the last resort for someone who is incapable of any type of real intellect.
I do apologize if it seems that way it is just that sometimes ppl get me angry when they argue a point from a soft on the constitution standpoint to me this is the most important document in my life much like a bible to a christian
And its not like they weren't asked and given time to leave. Camps? LOL Man, you are cracking me up. Granted, with Obama's similarities to people like Lenin I wouldn't be surprised if we had camps now, but still lol...
does not matter The Constitution is absolute no one man has the right to bypass that it is the supreme law of this nation.Maybe if you read it you might understand
Iclisious, obviously, you don't know much about anything.
They didn't acquire a permit to hold a public demonstration, and the police were justified in removing them until a permit was obtained. Remember, that's not just the protesters property. That property belongs to all the tax payers of Pittsburgh, and some citizens might not want protesters there. That's why you need a permit. The permit also establishes boundaries so traffic and emergency services aren't hindered.
Thursday night a bunch of businesses were damaged because of protests. When people behave like animals they should be expected to be treated like animals.
bdm, I'm a PItt student too. Not only that, but there were protesters throwing rocks, rolling dumpsters at cops, etc. Even if a good many of those protesters there were gathering peacefully, the idiots there causing trouble ruined it. The cops look like they were just doing their job, but bleeding hearts will always cry about any situation which they can jump on to make themselves feel morally superior.
you are a fool to think that way.when there are people acting out you arrest only them as to the others you leave them alone.Otherwise you lack any idea of honor. And looking at you channel i have serious doubts that you even know what the word honor means never mind its true meaning. Before you comment on whether the police acted rightly you should know what the rules are supposed to be
Waaa, I'm really crying for these douchebags. They were gathered there without a permit and it was an unlawful assembly. These cops are there to keep the order and these kids were deliberately defying them. They were asking to disperse and they would not. I'm totally on the cops' side on this one.
Listen here boy you need to shut up>Oh wait I actually believe in free speech and the constitution so go ahead and spew all the government propaganda you want, but be aware that the is no such thing as an unlawful assembly unless they initiate the violence.with that being the case i would have to say it was the police who had engaged in an unlawful assembly.
America has a long, long history of cracking down on dissenters whether they are peaceful or not. The fact that so many people are surprised by this as if it's a new thing only shows how well oiled of a propaganda machine the U.S. is. Show some solidarity for the protesters that experienced this...you never know when the state will decide you're next.
Indeed. They've essentially neutered the right to assembly and free speech to the point where it means little, but left just enough to convince the majority they've still got these rights.
This is not just a Pittsburgh problem Marshall Law threatens everyone.
President Obama and Mayor Ravenstahl both oversaw the planning of this disaster. They stood by and watched the frightening consequence of their work deliberately terrify and deny innocent citizens their right to peaceful protest, with or without a permit.. Neither lifted a finger to stop it. Responsibility for this debacle rests fully on their shoulders
You dummies can't be serious. this was not about a party or trying to see what's going on, This is about the right to voice your opinion. A right not only backed by YOUR constitution, but a god given right. The Police acted irresponsible (as usual) and the people suffered. The crazy part is the fact that unless we all talk about it together, this will get little to no media coverage, even though Barack is right down the street. How crazy is that. Get@Me
The CIA along with the Bilderberg Group has declared war on the American people since 1958. Through social engineering, psychological warfare, and other silent weapons. This is the latest wave of CIA propaganda designed to scare you into a perpetual state of fear. Notice the two innocent people (female and male) standing in the streets while a mob of riot police come the streets. Do you honestly beleive they where that stupid to not see them? They just stood there in a trance. Bad acting...
yes, well... I guess you've failed to notice that this is not in China and people in the US have the constitutional right to assemble and protest something that they might not agree with.
No offense, but these same tactics occurred 41 years ago in Chicago. This is nothing new. Have you all heard of the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791-94? It was put down by the same 'founding fathers' that you all supposedly idolize..and it happenned in Pittsburgh! Learn your history before you think that America or any other state was ever any different than it is now. The only change is in dress and technology, the protocol has always remained the same. You can't have it both ways!
As a student at Pitt, I think people need to hear the whole story before they pass judgment. I am in no way trying to defend the police because I have heard stories of them herding students into a closed area and using tear gas. However there were some "anarchists" who damaged several store fronts on campus and lit dumpsters on fire before this video would have been taken. I am not saying that these people were involved in the violence but there was actual violence on campus
that battle is not best fought in the streets. if the fucking police are saying get out of the streets, then get out of the streets. there are other places to party. all the morons standing around tempting fate got exactly what would be expected. if you dont want to get tear gassed, then get the hell out of the anarchist march. This is wrong. Very wrong. It is Not the United States I grew up in or learned that the Founding Fathers envisioned.
Something must change. City, County and State Gov't officials who did not directly oppose this need to be removed from office.
