These people weren't protesters, they were college kids looking for excitement and action. They were ordered to disperse, they didn't. First of all - requesting a permit to demonstrate is in direct violation of the American Constitution - freedom of assembly - second of all, there are plenty of witnesses, some incidents are actually clearly documented right here on youtube of police dressing up as protesters and instigating rioting by shoving, pushing and going as far as throwing rocks. $50, 000 or INSURED damages, believe me, nobody is complaining and everyone is making money, isn't that what it's all about in the end anyway?

Hell, I had to stand in the rain and snow for two months waiting for the bus because students burned down the bus stop. So I think it VERY plausible that stuff like that was happening. Especially since crap like that was happening all over the place. On the side of the cops, I'm sure it can be very difficult to sort out the trouble makers from the lawful protesters, so its easier to make them leave, if they had no permission to be there in the first place.

Well, first of all, you didn't see all that was going on there. There could have been stuff like what that person point out above. Dumpsters being put on fire etc etc which is VERY possible. Pittsburgh students did much the same during the Steeler super bowl. They overturned cars etc. Also, if you are against the acquiring of a permit to hold a peaceful demonstration of people, then you are basically accepting that its okay to obstruct traffic, stomp all over private property rights, etc.

They didn't acquire a permit to hold a public demonstration, and the police were justified in removing them until a permit was obtained. Remember, that's not just the protesters property. That property belongs to all the tax payers of Pittsburgh, and some citizens might not want protesters there. That's why you need a permit. The permit also establishes boundaries so traffic and emergency services aren't hindered.

As a student at Pitt, I think people need to hear the whole story before they pass judgment. I am in no way trying to defend the police because I have heard stories of them herding students into a closed area and using tear gas. However there were some "anarchists" who damaged several store fronts on campus and lit dumpsters on fire before this video would have been taken. I am not saying that these people were involved in the violence but there was actual violence on campus
