I've seen this teaching now probably 10 times and spent a few sessions of contemplation on it.. I've only understood it's depth to a small extent but what i've understood has already helped a lot! It was quite a good shock when i realized that my escapism (into movies, games, facebook, etc..) was not just neurotic as I always thought, but also compassionate because it's an attempt to suffer less, however clumsy and inefficient..
Watching this video knowing that Mingyur RINPOCHE took off to the Himalayas as a wandering Yogi recently, inspires me beyond words and reminds me of the importance to increase practice, EMAHO! May he be protected and free from all obstacles!
Every concept holds its opposite; I learned this in a critical theory course years ago. In the work I do now, I recommend that students of English learning new vocabulary remember the principle to double their acquisition. (Always learn the antonym for a word if it has one because it will be easy to remember with respect to its opposite.) I love that Mingyur Rinpoche applies this basic idea to an epistemology of love.
@pbramante Your orientation seems to be theoretical, whereas his is earthy, practical. I suspect that applying a university type of analysis to this won't get you very far.
