This is the start of my favorite sequence on any U2 CD or DVD: Dirty Day, Bullet the Blue Sky, Running to Stand Still, Streets. (picks up jaw from floor) All standout versions. My favorite moment from my favorite era from this band.
What a song. It's so easy to overlook and forget, and then one day you hear it again and all of a sudden you're transported back to that warm summer night at the RDS in 1993...
@JudithRosalee i can't say that u2 is my favourite band but Bono sometimes gives us words like " the day run away like wild horses over the hills..dirty day" is like a chill running down your spine..cheers!!
This is the 'normal' part of the show, where U2 become the U2 of old -look normal, normal expression, and just play. The first 7 songs of the set on this tour were Bono as The Fly (black shades, pvc outfit, sarcastic facial expressions),there was the ranting Vietnam veteran in Bullet The Blue Sky, then either The Mirrorball Man (silver lame suit, ranting like a Southern preacher) or Mr Machpisto (gold lame suit, platform shows) ranting like the devil, for the encore. This bit features the 'normal' U2
Did you just ask these peole now or have you previously gone down the list of songs and asked people which are "must-haves"? And what constitutes "a lot"? How will they respond if U2 doesn't play it duing the next tour? Will they curse the band because it's a "must-have" or will they feel that it was a "must-have" during this tour, but just a "hope-they-have" afterwards?
I'd love to hear it from them directly so send them to this video.
I just don't understand why they stopped playing this song after this tour. It kicks ass. C'mon, guys, I don't think anyone would miss say, Get On Your Boots, if you replaced it.
Get On Your Boots is absolutely amazing live. I actually don't know if Bono's still has the vocal capabilities to perform this song. The range of tones are almost as out there as Lemon (which is an amazing song, but I doubt Bono can perform it live at that this point).
@zodiacdragoon Ok, there's one person who would miss it. That's good to know.
As far as Bono's vocal capabilities, you can always adjust a song to fit his current talents. U2 does it all the time. The song is too good live to just scrap it after part of one tour.
I actually know a lot of U2 fans who agree with me that Get On Your Boots is a must-have aspect of U2's live setlist.
Also, I do know that U2 has readjusted many songs, but most of them only subtly. This song would need to be completely redone. A lot of Zooropa songs fall under this category because of how Bono plays with his vocal range. Examples include Dirty Day, Lemon, and Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car. It's possible, but it would require a lot of work to get there.
@zodiacdragoon As far as playing this live, it's definitely not in the category of Lemon. That would be a completely differently song. Daddy's? Whatever. In listening to this, I simply don't see the complete overhaul that you do. Bono's vocals are just setting up the instrumentals. That's what makes this song exciting. His voice here in its best form almost 2 decades ago is a nice bonus, but not a requirement. If they want to play with the singing, they could use Edge for that.
EPIC and Powerful! This is one of my underrated favorites! When U2 is gone, people will dig into their overall body of work and then maybe understand their true genius.
@090878tinus Achtung is the best album, by any artist or band, ever written. Zooropa is an awesome album. However, my friend, POP fucking sucks and I'm embarrassed that they even made that piece of shite.
@jcowell1977 You are right man, Achtung Baby is the best U2 album ever, and one of the best albums in the history of music, but POP is the secend one, no doubt. You have to listen it more than once, and you will understand! Popmart was the best U2 tour ever, this was the most ironic and joke tour ever! Still 35 minutes...
@sublimeest1978 zooropa is second to achtung baby, then pop, as far as hardcore alternative rock goes! the joshua tree is always the classic! fismantle is a good job too
WAW, great song!! I see a lot of people said, why don't they play Lemon or this song on the current tour. Well i think that Bono can't sing so high these days.. Nothing bad cause they adjust their new songs to their capabilites!
Very intriguing song. I've gone back and given it another "shot" (since I wrote it off long ago). The more I learn about these guys, the more I love them. This song definitely has a deeper meaning (as do most of their songs) but I haven't figured it out yet. I need to refer to my stash of U2 books at home.
@lisamarie656 You are quite right. This is an awesome song. I hated this album when I first got it, but it's one of my favorites now, and this is in my top ten U2 songs ever written. I don't think you really need to refer to your books, but just live off of the emotion of how it feels for YOU! That's what I did. Peace and Love, Jake.
Amazing performance! Album song not as developed, but that's often the case, U2 do their performing on the stage, studio performance just can't begin to document the wider vision. Zooropa was created on the back of the 'Achtung Baby' tour, and due to touring, didn't leave U2 with the usual studio time they are normally accustomed to, but the result, like 'Rattle and Hum', created on the back of the 'Joshua Tree' tour, was a band in their creative prime. Bono's guitar fill-in's are immense!!!!!!
I just adore this version of Dirty Day. It is so much bigger and sounds like it should. The album version just leaves me wanting more. But then again, that's been the ZooTV experience as a whole. To me, this was U2 at it's most incredible period. Bono's voice hasn't been as good since. Every performance from this period gives me goosebumps. The whole Running To A Standstill/Where The Streets Have No Name section is just beyond unbelievable. Mysterious Ways... wow.
ive always wondered what it must be like ,as your trying to perform and get out your lyrics, silly peopl are just screaming at you amd waving their arms..idiots
In my humble opinion "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa" had a "fire" that make U2 a legendary rock band. "No Line On The Horizon", also in my humble opinion, has something similar. I think "How to Dismantle..." is worse than "No Line...", but it's still pretty good.
@inayeah ....yes!!! I think the same!! it's magnificent!!!!!! fantastic!!!!! the best!!! Bono looks so... sexy! very hot! simply i love it!! do tou think?
Oh...if Bono only had his voice for the "Vertigo" and "U2 360" tours. They would be an unstoppable elite force behind mainstream music. I would've done ANYTHING to have seen them during the "Zoo TV" and "Popmart" tours. Thank God for Youtube. ; )
I'm STILL somewhat of an ideal newcomer to U2, yet have "Boy", "War", "The Unforgettable Fire" and "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" (which along with "War" ranks to be my favorite U2 album). I actually just got "The Unforgettable Fire" yesterday. It contains some of their most meditative, soothing and indeed overlooked work to date. I've heard every song off "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa" and I have a feeling the later will join "HDMAAB" and "War" to be my favorite U2 album!!!
it is dude! not during the entire song but at the last chorus you can listen to it so clearly while the edge is making the ending solo... Bono is using a distorsioned sound and it fills in pretty good
I wish it wasn't audible for "One" on the Chicago Vertigo DVD. He makes noises that sound like nails on a chalkboard, but luckily it's only for a short part early in the song. Still, it's awful.
I think it is because he can't really play it. he admitted that himself, he started at U2 as guitarist, but it was soon clear that that wasn't his thing. because of his character and his perfomances, they thought he should try for singer and indeed: here he is ^^
Edge actually has an entire list of every song they ever made, they're going to be playing a lot of songs this tour that havent been played much in the past
christ I love it when they kick in at 3.30 with the guitars etc... god I miss the 90's U2, so much more experimental than now. Now they have gone a bit commercial, still some good songs, but they have gone for a happy medium to please the record companies. In the 90's they just tried new styles and didn't give a shit, they knew they were good and just did it. Like this, how different is this from say 'Still Haven't Found...' or 'New years day', completely different angle, brilliant
i think that every band loses it around their age, but i think that u2 still give everything. no band has gone as long as they have and still brought out class songs, they will deliver every time, fuck anyone who thinks any new album is shit, the last 3 albums have been average but i still love them, u2 will go and should go down as the best band ever...
my favorite song by u2 really it tells an amazing story between the love and hate between a son and father!!! this songs remindes me of my relationship between me , my dad and my grandfather... best part i think that gives me chills, " i am you, more so when they put me in the ground" wow amazing!!!
this song may be about the bad way Bono was treated after his dad left the Catholic church ( because in those days Catholics and Protestants were disowned for marrying the other)."From a father to his son..more so when they put me in the ground". Be glad those days are over in Erie!
Dude...... i wish i could've been there. I was 7 at the time (holy shit....) I hadn't quite realised that i loved u2 at that point. They were still just something my dad played in his car. But i remember that he went to see that show, and my grandma told us when it came on the news, thats where he'd gone...
I went to see popmart at roundhay park with him in 97 though. My first concert! not a bad first concert experience ay? but man... imagine i'd been tuned in soon enough to see this one.....
bono riesco a capire ogni tuo gesto, riesco a percepire ogni tua vibrazione, perchè è questo quello di cui siamo fatti, di vibrazioni,,,,,, mio padre sei te
Agree with those who question why this is never played anymore. I'd also love to hear the full throttle versions of Please and Hold Me, etc. again. It seems they have always been reluctant to play songs from Zooropa and Pop. I remember Bono more or less apologizing for Pop and Popmart when I saw them in their first show in Florida in 2001. Bono, that was your critics, not your true fans who gave you a hard time. Play all you please from those 2 albums.
impresionante!!!!!!!!!!

christ I love it when they kick in at 3.30 with the guitars etc... god I miss the 90's U2, so much more experimental than now.

Maybe the best song from the Zoo TV, together with the Zoo Station piece. Just can't get enough of them.

this song may be about the bad way Bono was treated after his dad left the Catholic church ( because in those days Catholics and Protestants were disowned for marrying the other)."From a father to his son..more so when they put me in the ground". Be glad those days are over in Erie!

he is right, think that they don't play live since november of 2006, 3 years, except for those little events (but only bon and the edge).
juanjito20194 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
..and also that "little event" of Obamas induction, where the whole band played (and sucked).

Jeden z moich najbardziej dołujących kwałków U2.

This is the Exit of the Zooropa album - I love frenzied choruses - something U2 put so much power into.

Leeds Roundhay park 14/08/1993. You were either there or you were'nt.

Dude...... i wish i could've been there.

When I listed to the albun in (about) 95 (I think), you could tell it would be good live... though I did not expect it to be this good. brilliant.

Lo que me sorprende es la similutud de la canción en vivo con la versión de estudio, U2!!!
