It would probably take me about a month to learn the studio version of the solo but this would take me alot longer because you have to know how to mess up just right
my guess is that this is exactly what was intended since that is jimmys general performance level and the rest of the show seems to be played well. maybe the rumor of the fat j was created by him or some loony fan, either way, to adress the widespread distaste of the spin he decided to put on his song. maybe he liked/was focused more on the way it looked or felt more than the sound but likely he was all for every aspect of it when he played it imo
its hard to imagine, but at this concert i would have been shitting my pants, no matter how much he screwed this song up, he seemed to be able to play achilles last stand fairly ably, see they cheered, its gotta bee the audio or sumhin, because it coulnt have been that bad
Well... Page might have been out of his mind and did play it sloppy but I think this solo is absolutely unique - he played there phrases he had never played before and I also think in spite of the way he played that it's amazing and I enjoy listening to it!
Are you guys NUTS the 7th solo is one of my favs! A little screwy at times, it is, but its a classic! You guys have to learn to love even the screwy stuff, take it for what it is: greatness. Its not like he was amazingly horrendous. My all time fav is from June 26th though at Vienna, which I uploaded just because I love it so much.
i know he's done he's best from 1966 (i think thats around when he joined the yard birds) till 1977 i dont think the anything past that was really good from pages part but some of it good like the kebworth concert on the dvd 1979
@pepperc2900 It's not as good as a lot of other versions, but Jimmy's playing is still at a higher quality here than most other artists. I just wish there was another version of this with a solo this long that was definitely good.
The best 1980 show was the Frankfurt, Germany one hands down. For Led Zeppelin's last concert together with Bonham, this was a kinda bad way to go.

i have this boot it is in the car now it is ok trampled underfoot is very cool, but who would have thought that
that it would have been the LAST ZEPPELIN SHOW.
and bonzo would be dead in a few months well it kinda sucks for shore
gabigabrielah 2 years ago
nevertheless, Bonham´s playing well on that record! Drum work in the background is fantastically done, really, Bonzo did his job!
