Hey Dman- I have to say I love your lessons, and you inspire me to be a better bassist. I can't wait for your Book to come out. I'd like to know if I could use this lesson for a line in my band thank you.
Alright, I have a really important question that'll prolly sound really stupid to you: Is there a different tapping technique if I play on a fretless? I've been trying the way your lessons taught, and it doesn't sound the same as on my fretless, sounds kinda dead-ish.
@Skulrath Not a different technique, no, but it WILL sound different due to the set-up difference in both basses. In tapping, the frets make a big difference to sound. You CAN tap on a fretless, but it'll sound completely different, as you say.
Regarding your left hand, do you just "land" it on the string, thus making the tone depending on which fret it is, or do you bend it in some way? Thanks.
Hey men, i really need an advice, im from México and im beginning with the bass, but my fingers are just too tiny when i try to make a taping it sounds bad, i can better this with practice? or ill get trapped in here with my little fingers? :( what should i do
i am very grateful that you have uploaded these vids and you have your site - as you could have easily charged for everything , but to think you gave them for free. all i can say is thanks a lot :D
dude, ur friggin awesome! i just started playing bass and youve taught me almost evrything i know. ive watched all ur vids and can play almost all of the songs now, the only problem is that my amp makes everything sound like crap. thanks a ton man!
You have taught me tons dude, i have watched everyone of your videos at least once, you've basically taught me everything i know. Can't thank you enough man.
My question is, What do u Have your bass tunned at because I see in your tappeing video that it doesnt look like your pushing that hard and with mine i would haft to tap a lot harder to get the sounds u make. Ive only had my laguna for about 4 mounths and im getting there but i think my sound is off its tuned but my strings are not as lose, its a 4 string by the way. So what im asking is what do i tune it to to get that sound im looking for.
It's in standard tuning. I think there maybe some slight compression on the korg unit I use. These newer vids are played through that, rather than through an amp. I think that's why they sound of a better quality. I've done a review of it if you;re interested?
So many people put their videos up just to show off and try to look cool. You are truly trying to teach people how to play and I appreciate that...and you do it well I might add. I've learned alot from these videos. Great teacher and great bassplayer. Thanks man!
I can't win! Lol! I get people asking me to do more, then people saying they dont like it, then people saying stop the funk, arrgggg More metal! Arggggg! Lol, o' well. There will be more lessons soon that will suit you all. Can't please everyone all the time :D
Dude You Rock , and your VIDEOS are the BEST anywhere ever , I learn alot from you , and your videos allways have a good view on them , LOVE YOUR VIDEOS . Dont stop doing this Please .
Can you tell us how you recorde your bass for youtube though love the sound
hey, dont bother trying to please everyone. there will be sad faces all the time and everywhere, specialy on internet. ur doing a gr8 job. dont forget to do what YOU like, not what others want to see :) like this lesson a lot! i am more keen to fun but i will definetly learn this one too. good job
i hate how u stopped talking man... ur lessons had taste when u talked now its Pure practice :(.. But tis awesome practice and this is a great excercise i guess :P. Thanks for makin the effort
I liked it more when he talked too but i bet scripting what he'll say and then actually doing it will take 10 times more time than it will just doing that.
Yeah a lot of rock has tapping on guitar. You're more likely to find tapping on bass in jazz or fusion though. Its all out there, tapping is quite common.
In alot of death and tech-death metal bands that use basses with more than 4 strings will use it. I know I like io tap just to hear myself play. If your lookin for traditional rock and metal, try cliff burton maybe.

@TheZombieXecutioner Lots and lots of practice!
Everyday before I practice I start with a warm up where I basically do a bunch of scales up and down the neck using all my fingers.
