  • u fail as spy, but game looks fantastic on this computer

  • whats bootcamp? please answer

  • isnt macbook pro that have touchscreen things at the bottom

  • @mairland200 what?...do you mean a multitouch track pad?

  • Yeah once you start buying the higher end MacBooks with upgraded hardware games run like on a slightly upgraded iMac. It's insane.

  • Im thinking of buying a macbook pro 15 inch can any other games like guildwars or wow run well on this because i want a laptop thats ok for gaming that can run this also.

  • @QURRXX

ya just use bootcamp and use windows and boot into windows not mac and your good to go.

  • dude there noob haha maybe its because there never had fps games

but i still think ALIEN WARE 15 inch still owns mac

    more games

also have you seen you cant record in game! you have to use a FLIP

  • One more reason to get a mac.

  • Are those specs you're using standard on a macbook pro? Nice video anyway. 5 stars.

  • I have a question, I love Team Fortress 2 but I have a mac OS X 10, I live on a low budget and can't do what you did to play it, but my saving grace is steam coming to mac like valve announced. And I know pretty much nothing about computers compared to everyone, is it possible for me to be able to play tf2 at xbox 360 quality or above (Not expecting miracles just something around 360 quality.) on my mac when steam to mac comes out. Any help would be appreciated. :)

  • great quality dude

  • I run bootcamp it rules, my Macbook doesnt have the graphic power to run this though.

  • Actually he was useing fraps but cl_showfps works too

  • in consol type net_graph

  • thats fraps

  • Just bought a macbook pro 15". Where can i get steam for mac? Do i have to get bootcamp or crossover?

  • No you don't... I can show you how, there's a program called iSteam (not the crappy iphone thing).

    Search it in youtube.

  • wish i ran it that smooth

  • I'm installing windows on my 17" unibody MBP as I type this JUST so i can play tf2 lol. I hope it runs decently. It's a shame I stopped playing WoW. That's like, the one game that works on OSX lol, and it's 2004 graphics so it'd probably run near perfect at full res.

  • It's runs perfectly. Full 1900 x 1200 resolution, AA 2x, AF 2x, everything else on high, textures on very high. 55-60 fps. My laptop gets really hot though :X

  • lol i got a macbook pro thats white my games in steam is css hidden source source forts zombie master day of deafeat source portal half life 2 deathmatch half life 2 loast coast and garry's mod 9 AND STILL NOT LAGY!!!!! COOL HUH

  • I want that mac, I bought TF2 cause the Orange Box was 10 dollars this weekend, but my computer can't even run it! Not even on the lowest specs. it freezes and lags, it freezes when there are around 10 people close and in open spaces >_>

I seriously want a macbook pro.

  • macbook pro is amazing, i just got it for college and I recommend it for everyone, i used to use a PC and now I look back on it, its shit. Mac book pro I get amazing FPS for every game. 300+ FPS for WoW :O

  • You'll probably have some very low settings then, I run wow on Ultra settings and I usually hover around 35-50

  • Yeah man, i'm runnin it on my old macbook from 2006 (got it for a private school). I still run TF2, and gmod on it and i get 100-200 FPS on TF2 with full everything. No AA

  • Awesome, I'm getting a Macbook Pro for college/graduation present and I'm happy to know that TF2 runs great on it. Plus Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 will be made for Macs. I'm hardly going to miss having a desktop PC!

  • Man, i want a 17 inch unibody macbook pro so bad cause i want to play WoW and other games like this!

  • That's godly.

  • Wow, that runs smooth. Things I need:

    MacBook Pro

    Windows XP

    Steam

and a better internet connection :(

  • gateway p-7811 will get MUCH more fps in every game and it costs alot less then this.

  • You're a year too late on this argument.

  • how well do you think i could pull off TF2 with a 2ghz imac with 2gigs of ram and a ATI Radeon HD2400 with 128mb of Vram?

  • amazing now i feel that my sister didnt get ripped off when she bought her mac!

  • thats cool how much did it cost?

  • Far too much.

  • @egobrain2x dude more then the alien ware 15

  • I'm getting a brand new macbook pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor2GB RAM, 200GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics controller with 256MB RAM) If I buy Leopard, do I also have to buy new Window XP program?

  • Congrats. If you don't already own a Windows install disc, you'll certainly need one to dual boot.

  • I suggest u dont, as rumour says dat newer designs are comin out end of september (yes, next month).

But if u already did, its cool, its stll one hella machine... I rather not be the bringer of bad news.

I also got the same mac fyi

  • 40-50fps good

  • first off, is that vista or xp and is it 32 or 64 bit? I'm getting xp home edition and was wondering if it is worth upgrading to 4gb of ram from 2gb. Second, is it worth the upgrade?

    Thanks

  • XP Pro, 32bit edition. It's not worth upgrading to 4GB. I ran a handful of benchmarks using CounterStrike Source's test and the 2GB performed better 5/6 times. Another kick in the nuts is Windows 32bit doesn't see all 4GB! So definitely save your money unless you really could use in OS X, that's where it really comes in handy. Hope that helps.

  • hahahahah i knew id come down to the comments and yep only 3 down there it is.. "You suck" hahahah.. its all good tho just a game

  • i cant understand how he installed it?

  • most likely using bootcamp and windows...

  • Is 1920x1200 too big for the 15.4 inch screen.

  • i think so yes - i don't think that screen can run that resolution :)

  • You are correct. 1440x900 is the native resolution.

  • you suck lol

  • when you use boot camp, do you need to choose between 32gb or half hard drive on your MacBook?

    is 15' screen good?

  • You can choose any size you want. Screen size is just personal choice.

  • How did you install the game to the Macbook pro. I'm planning to buy the macbook pro soon.

  • you have 2 choices

Partition you Hard Drive (virtually split it into 2 or more parts) with a windows partition using bootcamp and buy/install windows xp on it.

or 2, imo the better way

install crossover and run the games inside of OSX itself.

  • Dont pick the 17" if you intend to move your laptop around more than 2 times a week. Its a hazzle, the 15" is the standard choice when beying laptops, and for a good reason

  • Soldierknowsbest claimed that he maxed it out on his TF2 on MBP vid. And can I really fully max it out on Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 200GB 7200RPM, Nvidia GeForce 8600 512MB

  • That may be pushing it. I'll try throwing everything on mine max settings and see how it handles. He has one of those new penryn processors but has a slower hard drive. It's worth a shot, right?

  • yeah. but the specs I just showed were the specs of the MPB i'm purchasing soon(it has penryn, it is high end 15"), his is BASE 08 version (2.4 GHZ, 8600m w/256 mb)

  • looks good... nice try ingame tho at first wasnt lookign so good but u got da hang of it wid spy....

  • net graph_3 ftw! why use fraps for that?

  • I usually use net_graph 1, but FRAPS is easier to read and comes in handy when you want to record the direct feed.

  • Sweet dude. Looks amazing.

  • thats just a video..

  • Welcome to YouTube.

  • no the gameplay was a video.

  • you saying hes lying?

  • well at the beginning it looks like he is filming the screen of the machine, and no one is playing so it looks like a video.

plus the huge argument with mac vs pc, is that macs can play ANY game a pc can, BUT my argument is that they still need to use windows to make it work, still it looked like it was just a mac machine playing a video of gameplay, either way you cant go wrong with tf2

  • he explained. it is a video of a laptop playing the game. because fraps destroys the framerate, which would negate the point, no?

i dont think there is any argument here atall. the guy is just doing a service by showing you it can be done.

  • yeah, no i saw the hands on the keyboard after i watched the video sober.

it looked like it was just a video of gameplay and then i realized he was trying to keep his hands out of the frame.

  • how much GHZ does your processer have

  • 2.4

  • facepalm

  • Fraps looks decent in the recording.

  • How's the loading time for the maps? Last time i tried TF2 on my friend's computer, CP_well took an eternity to load.

  • Bummer! That doesn't sound right, maybe it was a bad server or old hardware?

They don't take too long to load usually, unless there's a ton of mods and sound files to download too. Perhaps that's where a 7200RPM hard drive comes in handy.

  • Alright, I'm getting a macbook (not a macbook pro) in a few weeks. It'll be the middle range model, the one just before the black model. I'm aware it has a less than impressive card in it, but will it be able to run Team Fortress 2 on Windows (boot camp) adequately?

  • Honestly, I doubt it. I was using a Bootcamped MB for a while and it couldn't even properly render shields in EVE Online. Granted, Steam games are more CPU than GPU, so you might be able to get it running at lower or medium settings.

  • Nope.

  • THANK YOU!!!! now iam getting one oh one last thing? will 2GB of RAM be enough to play this game?

  • I'm glad you asked. I did benchmarks in Counter Strike Source last night based on the old RAM (2GB) that came with it compared to this new stuff. (4GB Corsair ValueSelect)

The results are; 2GB scored higher in CSS AND in Xbench (Leopard) compared to the 4GB.

If you're using Leopard, the extra 2GB will come in handy for sure. For games, Windows only sees 3GB and it plays just about the same as 4GB anyhow. The difference is as subtle as two or three frames.

  • I think I'll be getting the MacBook Air (once I get my damn car paid off...). Have any of you MacBook/MacBook Air owners tried Team Fortress 2 (or any of the Orange Box games) via WINE or CrossOver? I'm really curious because I really, really want to ditch Windows completely when I get the Mac. Let me know from your experiences, please.

  • Don't get the air, i am begging you. It doesnt even have a disc drive. it only costs 500 dollars to make just a moneymaker for apple plz dont get it!!!

  • Who the hell uses a disc drive anymore? I think I've used my Windows machine's CD drive twice in the 3 years since I've had it. For that, a external USB drive would be fine.

  • Different folks, different strokes.

  • Unless you buy and play games from places other than Steam. Or put rip music from your CDs to your HD. Or like to watch DVDs on airplanes.

  • Exactly. When they stop making movies, music, games, software, etc on optical media, that's the time to drop the drive. Otherwise it's nice to have just incase.

  • You're not going to be able to run TF2 on an Air, period.

Crossover/Parallels/VMware/and so on; are not for running games.

Unfortunately Windows is the OS for gaming, in my experience not even OS X performs as well with their ports of titles. As for Linux, it's mostly luck with your hardware. Some are able to get Steam running in Ubuntu, others can't even find the right driver for their GPU's.

    Good luck!

  • Bootcamp will run TF2 no problem on any mac with an intel chip. The problem is the macbook air has a crap graphics card.

  • What about crossover? If you go to the Crossover website there is a video at the bottom of Crossover running TF2 flawlessly, getting an MBP soon! =]

  • Crossover won't let you take hold of all of your resources, so you're not getting what you paid for. The video from twoboxen is running on the lowest settings and is still having some massive frame rate issues, not to mention artifacts. (Look at the water!)

    That's not satisfactory for paying > $2,000.

  • lol i am doing the exact same thing as you and it works great :D

  • Congrats! Have you had any luck with the processor affinity trick that people say increases performance by 10%?

  • well to be honest, i don't have any performance issues, so no.

I don't even know what you're talking about lol!

  • did u modify ur comp at all other than bootcamp?

wat does the 32 gb next to bootcamp mean?

  • I think it means that he used a 32 GB Partition to put Windows XP on.

  • Thanks, SubNegativeStudios. He's correct.

  • wow isnt that a loT? like out of 100

  • Not really, seeings how it leaves 168GB free for Leopard.

  • Excellent, I was just wondering about being able to play TF2 whenever I'm out. I'm glad to see that bootcamp is a really good option for gaming on a macbook pro.

I love my macbook pro, and running 3d games native it smokes my custom built 2 year old PC with an Nvidia 7600gs,

Time to put winxpPro on this beast.

    Thx for posting the video.

  • Sounds like we're in the same boat. Imagine two years from now!

  • is there a guide or something that show you how to get your games to run like this on a mac? because im getting ether a macbook pro or an imac soon

  • Yep. It's called google. You use bootcamp, install windows, and that's it.

  • OK 2 things

    1. lol change your username I can't even copy it down here haha! just kidding

    2. your average FPS is wrong when you are running fraps..

    3. next time you are recording a steam game then you use record "filename" then use demoui to bring up the console and play it and record THAT recording with fraps... this way ur game play doesn't get affected.

  • That's actually three things.

I'll get right on changing my screen name just for you.

Read the description and read up on FRAPS in general, it's only to show what it looks like to me instead of at a distance from a camera.

Steams video capture using "demo" works great, but have you ever been able to convert that file into an AVI or pipe the live stream to a Unix machine through Cygwin at the same time?

  • play the demo and sue fraps to record it.. you cannot convert .dem files to anything...

and thanks for changin yourname many regards

  • this game is a pain in the arse :D :D

  • i thot nothing worked on macbooks =o

  • everything works on macbook including me and yo mamma

never speak ill of a macbook pro..

  • lol...but seriously

dont u need to like...run crossover to play tf2?

  • No, Crossover/Parallels/VMware is ideal when you want to run Windows inside of OS X by splitting resources. If you're gaming you want boot camp, hands down.

  • bootcamp

  • Macbook is different from Macbook Pro. One has a POS videocard. The other has a decent videocard.

  • yes i know...but dont u need crossover?

  • Uh, no. Crossover doesn't let you use a 3d card. You need to use bootcamp, and boot into a windows partition. I do it on my 24" iMac all the time. It's the only way to run windows apps at full speed.

  • Right on, Cash!

  • oh :) thanks for replying

i saw somebody play tf2 on crossover and it sucked mucho butt

  • pretty damn fast

  • damnit i can't afford a mac with a good video chipset . i could probably save up for a 2.2ghz macbook but definitly not a macbook pro .

  • would this run on parallels?

  • I wouldn't say run, more like crawl.

  • Lmao

  • Pretty nice. How do you think my 2.4 GHz iMac w/ ATI Radeon HD 2600 would handle this game?

  • Only one way to find out!

  • this might b irrelavent...but u suk at this game

  • "I'm not trying to show any skill at this game, just how well it runs on a 1 inch laptop. Excuse the terrible strategies."

  • how much did u pay for it?

  • With Money.

  • WOW...u are very...very stupid...

  • Feardom1337 - i was joking -_-"

  • I paid $35 for the game and the machine was free.

  • what video card u have? my video card is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 and my fps in this map is 20... u fps is 50!

  • Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3 is the one that came with the laptop.

Sounds like it's time for you to upgrade! You can get the same card as I do for under $100 for the PC. (That's a deal, especially if you SLI them)

  • But if its a laptop (I dont think the 5500 is...), you cant really upgrade it. The 8600 can easily hit 70-80 fps in TF2 with the right hardware, but i don't think the FX 5500 is PCI x16, so you may need a whole new computer.

  • The GeForce 5500 is AGP, correct. If you don't have PCI Expresses on your motherboard by now, I think it's time for a new computer regardless. And yes, many laptops allow for upgrading the GPU, look for the Asus C90 and the Sager 5790. Even the old Dell D800 Latitude allows you to customize.

  • What drivers did you use for the GPU?

  • The original drivers that came with OS X 10.5.1.

  • Macs don't need drivers!

  • Macs do need drivers. Especially in this case because this is running under Windows XP, not OS X.

  • I can't believe I'm admitting this but you run Team Fortress 2 more smoothly on your MacBook Pro than my Windows XP!

btw when you play the game is it with the same people playing on their XPs?

  • The MBP has a built in mic, right? Can you use that on TF2? Or will I need to get an external mic?

  • Yes sir it does. No need for an external mic, this one works fine in game.

  • can it run on a macbook(regular) using bootcamp on low settings?

  • i dont beleive the graphics card will be able to handle it but dont hold me to it.

  • You're 100% correct.

  • the regular one has its graphical memory shared. If you want a gaming device + mac= macbook pro or a mac pro.

  • Yeah especially since the graphics are shared with the main RAM.

  • Not on the Pro model, only on the Macbook. The Pro has an 8600m in it, one of the best mobile graphics card.

  • I'm impressed how you got TF2 to run so smoothly

    on a Mac nice job!

  • Thanks, it's all about tweaking the settings like any other computer.

  • Hey dude, can you send me the tweaks and stuff for the game? Like what you did and all. I would really appreciate it, I got my macbook pro and would just like to know how to run it smoothly.

  • i run crossover on my mac laptop for 15 years, i get 200fps on all my games. crossover is the best. bootcamp sucks.

  • this is sad... your lap top runs on high and is really smooth and quality is damn awesome... and my computer isnt anywhere close to this =/ sucks for me if only i could play like this .. maybe i would be better cause i hate lag and lag spikes =/ low quality sucks but i have to bear with it anyways nice vid

  • No worries dude, the way technology is going these days tomorrow you could get a new PC better than this for half the price. Patience is a virtue! (Especially when waiting to play Crysis)

  • i agree .. crysis looks bad ass! thanks for reading my comment and replying thank you so much!

  • so if i use boot camp with leopard, should i get a playable speed on lowest settings on a macbook.

  • like i said i don think so..

  • where did you shop to get your custom specs? ive noticed youre using a different manufacturer for RAM and HD. have you experienced any quality issues with that setup?

  • im trying this on boot camp with vista but it gets an error like library steam.dll cannot be found what do i do?
