Peter Weir is incredible! Here in Australia, Australian films and directors have a reputation of being crap (especially todays australian cinema). Peter Weir is one of the great exceptions, truly a fantastic film maker!
Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness, The Mosquito Coast, Dead Poets Society, Fearless, The Truman Show, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

Peter Weir's name isn't usually mentioned when the topic of great living directors comes up, but it should. His Australian films are utterly fantastic and he's one of the few foreign directors who have consistently put out quality pictures after his transition to Hollywood (personally I prefer Picnic at Hanging Rock and the Last Wave, but his recent works are still good).
Weir is a great director because his movies aren't only story. They have strong stories, this makes them more interesting, but to make movies you need a feel for images and their own poetry, music, for how to comfort & alienate an audience, for timing, the texture of real life & Weir has it- stories IN PICTURES. too many directors with mil spent on visuals cant do it. advice was learn, do your own thing, good. but not to "make it in Hollywood"... its some luck that his own talent was able to.

That's one helluva director! We don't often get the chance to see interviews of him though. Thanks for posting.
