  • Nice studio

  • americans want to cure cancer so they can live longer and steal more natural resources. This bastard program will NEVER GET 1 CPU CYCLE FROM ME. I use my spare CPU cycles for profit.

  • I fold proteins with my 2 Ghz Celeron. I think I can I think I can I think I can...

  • I am Folding@Home 2Macs and 3PCs all Folding together!

  • say this plan and simple i hate windows lol

  • join team 179159. we have a total of 7 ps3's and 4 computers right now. help us make those numbers higher

  • Nice work. DauntlessEagle's blog Team ID 52644

  • well i game on my computer so mac is not an option nuff said WINDOWS FTW

  • The PS3 get smaller segments than the Mac, which you'll see in your scoring for each unit finished. The only problem with it is that is DOES NOT idle when you need to use your computer. The software needs to be upgraded to look for idle usage. Until then, it KILLS your computer's performance on any machine.

  • This Pissing match will never stop as long as Mac users keep up their fanboy shiznits and snippy commercials (that are annoying as SHIT might i add) And PC users keep reigning their "Dominant Gaming machine Pwnsu" attitude this match will go on forever until one goes out of business (GO PC)

  • Those uneducated Mac Parrots don't know difference between software and hardware They are just a bunch of walking talking pamphlets. Linux ftw.

  • hes right, they are all just tools

  • I'm on Windows/Linux dual-boot. Doing video, gaming, photos, internet, everything. 1500 bucks. I have a friend with a mac. I laugh at him :3. Still a sexy ass looking laptop though. wish the hardware were as good as the looks.

  • Hey AL... GREAT VIDEO bro!

You really make the points needed here... Hope to get our team's video up this weekend. Take a peek. . . .

    Fold Strong brother, Team 60148!

  • ps3 on and working:

    Shredtheibanez

Donating my CPU to a good cause :)

  • i dont get it

im running 4gb of ram 2xGTX260 on sli and a Q9400@3.8ghz

but my folding statuis always says 0/1500 ive must done something wrong :S

  • F@H is an awesome thing to run if you don't game with your gaming hardware :-)

  • im folding at home :)

  • Macintosh Machines, Windows Machines and Linux Boxes :D hahahahah :D

  • so how about yuo upload a video on your rig?

    that would be siick

  • I wonder how an HD4870 will fold

  • alright but folding at home works the best with nvidia

  • Yes it does. but I just happened to get a good card ( sapphire vapor X 1GB) for rather cheap

Infact I was planning on buying a GTX 260 ...

  • I dont think thats the case anymore, but either way folding on a modern AMD or Nvidia GPU is much faster than most CPU's or the PS3.

  • Mine does it quite well actually.

  • Have now installed folding home on my pc and ps3.

  • hey this folding is pretty awesome im in team num 143016 for platform racing 2 and the owner makes us folding to win prizes. If one person folds it means the whole world to him.

  • ur relly happy man =)

  • Fold for the cure!

  • I think folding at home works with GPU's as well.

  • Just started mine as a member of youtube team!

  • iam jerking

  • hahahaahaha

  • hahah y u stilll upp?

  • Al, Im in 7th position on the team! My 8800 folds like a beast.

  • I appreciate it. I have to get my PS3 back folding as well. I appreciate yours and everyone else's CPU cycles!

  • Put it on my old G3, Imac, Mac Pro, and Macbook.

Thanks for telling me about this hope it will help many people.

  • I agree with you, but I'm already a folder lol

I'm sticking with my team but I wish you good luck with your team :)

  • every on should do this.

  • It would be crazy if all 18 million people who owns a PS3 does Folding@Home at the same time.

  • Yah, Your right. There all just tools. Like me, I play alot of fps games online. But my computer sucks so i guess it dont matter. But, my sister has a bad computer and she just draws on it (nothing else) no games. So there is no point to having a "hardcore" computer. I bet most of the people on youtube play games and think that other people that have mac's think they plays games. And there for, Microsoft wins :)

  • Mac have much games and they crash less

  • I love my new imac. I don't really use it for games though.

  • Yah cause the direct X support really is there xD

  • ps3 works as well

  • I've joined the team with my mac 3,06 GHZ dual core :)

  • Folding Homes also works on Playstation 3

  • my ps3 is the fastest 8 cores

  • its not real 8 cores its 1 core split with 8 threads like HT

  • it actually does have 8 cores but i dont think it uses all 8 for folding

  • 3,191 iter/sec with my 9800GX2 :o

  • We all know that the Commodore 64 is the best PC of all time. All I need to do now is find out how to get it to fold and watch Youtube videos.

  • Nah, the Amiga 1200 crushes them all.

  • Im your number two producer! Is that worth a mention? Haha, Im folding like a champ with my Nvidia 8800GT. We are going places now!

  • Oops I interpreted the numbers wrong. Im your number one producer!

  • im in

  • nevermind. i see the number in the full description now,ya bum!! lol

  • i'm having problems joining the team. do i just type in 7,and then i'm on the youtube team?

  • I just wanted to thank EVERYONE for joining the team!

  • NO! NEVER!

Oh... Well... It's not hurting me, right? Ah... Meh. Downloading.

  • There we go, got an idle linux machine I don't use alot, let's just let that run with the program for a couple of days, see if I can help out. ;)

  • ok i will this is cool

  • i just joined

  • stop brainwashing me.

  • I'm running folding@home on my 2 desktops, my notebook, and my PS3. I also have a windows 98 machine, but i dont have a wireless adapter for it, so i can't use it.

  • once my sister leaves for college (and i get her HP pavilion) i'll install it on that, as i'm not sure what i want to do with it yet...

  • Just watched this and put it on my iBook, Powermac Server, and an XP Machine. What a good idea!

  • I jailbreak and unlock iphones on my windows pc. i perfer mac but i just dont have the funds for it right now. Whats your guy's oppinion on the mac book pro?

  • love the bonus clip al very funny

  • i finaly got folding at home to work on my computer running vista i had to run it in compatability mode for windows 2000 lol

  • wow, that's pretty cool! my props!!

  • yea i use a windows computer

i pretty much only watch porn and youtube on my comp haha o yea and play some crap free games

  • who gives a shit about what os/computers u use. its up 2 urself what u use

  • The problem I had is that I could not put my computer into sleep mode without turning the modem off.... which is the only reason I can't keep the programing running for weeks on end

  • This should have been featured

  • My iMac G3 400MHz is up and running it wow what a GREAT CPU contribution that is!

  • im up!

  • my bias towards PC was once a ton worse, but now i only hate the commercials.

  • hey love your videos... whats your playstation id please ? mines dannyleach

  • Ill set my home servers to help after midnight

  • I'm currently using a HP xw4300 Workstation, 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 running Windows XP at my job.

It's a little outdated, but I'm an intern so I don't get one of the "Core Four Whores."

I use it to do CAD design, making orthopedic parts and instruments.

  • i signed up at folding at home on my PS3

  • he said youtube france

  • I have an old powermac g4 dual 1.25 that i have set up on this its on 24/7 undisturbed. ; D

  • Well ive joined, With my Youtube Adress :P

  • Hey Alfred,

I just got a PS3 - folding@home is awesome and I will start within a few days through the YT team. (Y)

  • God Bless all forms of intelligence...

  • Hi everyone. I'm currently leading the YouTube folding team, as 'Mulligan' although I'm sure Alfred will overtake me again. Well done for joining in on this. Alfred will you be doing any more videos on FoldingAtHome?

  • So what are we trying to achieve? Who is the winner? Any useful outcome that can help people to make a decision? What are the fruits of these endless discussion on which browser or OS is the best? What is the point of these "war?" Is there a concrete goal we want to accomplish? Maybe you guys just like to argue just for the heck of it because you feel to do so. Chemicals in your brain...I understand.

  • Nice Armani Exchange shirt ;)

  • Good eye! LOL!

  • Yep it's definately good stuff

  • wow i have the red version of the armani exchange

  • i am doing a lot of writing on Word (on a Macbook) (haha... a Microsoft program). I also talk a lot on IChat and surf the web, playing games and checking email.... I am in high school

  • good points about the Mac VS PC. i use my mac (ibook clamshell) mainly for graphic design and making some music.

  • give a reason to support your argument, don't just say macs suck or windows is awesome without giving a reason :(

  • haha i was joking around but i don't think u got it will anyways i don't think windows is better then mac and mac better then windows. There isn't lot people saying i like them both because they have differences between them that people like and dislike ether way if a person likes one of this computer only because they used it for long time.

  • i think everyone should have their own opinions

  • Yeah your right Mac sucks my fucking ass, love your vids though Adiblasi, Especially the dell octawhore server vid. :D:D:D:D

  • Yeah i do folding@home on my ps3 but not on my macbook.

  • they are doing folding@home on ps3's

  • I agree with this guy!, We shouldnt be pissing eachother off with the OS we use, I just bought a Packard Bell iMedia 2421 for £400 in pcworld. And its what i need from a pc, and thats how we all should be looking at computers, their tools!

  • wtf

  • I run Mac and windows, its nice to utilize both. Would like to do daulboot on the mac but i dont have the 3 grand for a Mac Pro to run it swiftly but someday. Thanks Al

  • Great video sir! So true, computers are tools and its childish to fight about operating systems, its like arguing about the best color on a car, by the way its debian-orange :) ha. Everyone get together and fold, fold, fold !

  • video editing and music editing

    on a very powerfull pc

  • Checkout my video i made about Folding@Home cracking 1 Petaflop of computing power! - watch?v=1Tye1ayu_Qk

For those who think that Folding@Home is a possible virus, please atleast checkout sum more info about it before you LABEL it so. People who post these sorta comments are LAZY, they'd rather call everything a virus rather than actually HELP OUT!

  • I wish there was an OS that was stable and quick like Mac OS X, separated the OS and data as smoothly as Linux and had the massive compatibility like Windows. That would be my favorite OS of all time :).

  • What is better, Adobe CS3 Production Premium or Apple Final Cut Studio? Personally, I think Adobe CS3 Production Premium is way better just because it has Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. I mean, most video editors or motion graphics artists are going to want those programs anyway. So why would they just pick up Production Premium over Final Cut? This is not a Mac versus PC debate.

  • I use all three. Linux, Windows, and Mac. I do 3D modeling and rendering, application programming, web designing, game modifying, and programming PIC chips for electronic experiments.

  • i just installed folding@home on my ibm thinkpad. also joined the youtube team! :)

  • Al, I have to admit, I think both apple & pc are fantastic. I have Windows XP, Running on a pc I built with reasnoble specs, I love it, it does what I want it to do, If i want to go online, it does it, MSN, it does it, as other pc's do too, now i have my mac alocated just for video editting, and that does the job great. Windows are practicle, Macs are creative, simple

  • Folding@Home has cracked 1 PetaFlop of computing power!!! A feat not yet achieved by a single Supercomputer out there currently operating. This just goes to show the power of Distributed Computing... making one big distributed Supercomputer, crunching data in order to save lives! Cheers

  • Sounds like spam. and spyware.

  • sounds like? lol did u even bother going to the official homepage u douschbag? NO! ya bloody toss

  • Your most welcome to use that program fold fold, but little do you know is that when your computer goes into idle that what this so called program is doing is gathering information, such as passwords, bank account number and any other info. Oh but you too BACKWARDS to understand hacking so you can be like ay other sucker and get sucked in.

  • You really don't get out much, do you? :p

  • what is manually putting a virus on your computer not getting out. Im not saying dont put it on, I just personally dont want this guy accessing my credit card number, or password or anything else.

  • oh jesus they even do folding in all the pc magazines

  • I run Mac, oh, and you know your name is on the description of makemebad35's Youtube: The Rap Music Video which has now almost been viewed by 1,000,000 people! And I'm gonna go downlaod that Youtube Team thing!

  • Well Al and youtube users I support all three operating systems. I have a pc running WIndows XP, a Mac running Mac OS X and another pc running Ubuntu Linux. I feel that all three are different and similar in ways. The war between PC, Mac and Linux is pointless for me to pick a side, since I use all three. I support and use them. I think this idea to make an ultimate super computer to fight and cure diseases is really a great idea to do. :)

  • Hey Al!

I'm still running Folding@Home, and I'm suprised that I really can't notice the different even tough it's using like 50% of my computers CPU-power. Great stuff!

And BTW, why doesn't Folding have support for two cores? I want to contribute more!

    -J.

  • it supports dude research at the official forums there is some help and special client for dual cores and quads :)

  • This is the real thing!

  • Thank god you're not stoking the fires. That's just lame (btw, I'm back... Thailand evidently has a problem with the filter servers!)

  • i've downloaded this and every night this app will be running on my Beloved iMac G5 1.8 GHz 1.5 Gigs of RAM and 300 Gig HDD

  • I've had folding for a year now. I joined your team but I proly won't show up for a while because I got a WU that is going to finish at december 7th! yeah, I subscribe to david and now to you.

  • hi there, saw your video and now i've got it running on a 1.5Ghz celeron M and a powerPC 350Mhz

  • I am a Windows and Linux user, but I found your channel searching for Apple related videos after reading the book iWoz. Anyway I think you are great American and I love the idea of OSes working/folding together. Have you thought about running for Congress?

  • that is a great thing

  • i went and downloaded the program, hey its a great plan to help cure cancer when my machines aren't being used at that moment ^_^ now only to get a ps3 now....

  • Windows, Macs, linux together? thats so cool! ^_^

  • lets plant a tree an dance around it. man u know that mac ist beder

  • Mac ist beder? Hehe, funny mix between German and English, you gotta love it! :D

    And yes, I love Macs!

  • lets also get all our friends & family to run this great program and as many Playstation 3s to join in!

    Cheers

  • all the youtube folding team should join the folding@home community forum, its really good source for info n help, and u can make up a youtube team thread in the teams section

  • One more user, keep on growing!

  • i have 5 computers running it now

  • Actually, there is a naturally occurring greenhouse effect. Flora, fauna decaying and the oceans send the vast majority of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Anyway, Al: just so you know, I'm crunching under the name "bbrossard".

    Take care,

    Brendan

  • adiblasi - while im fully behind you in Folding@Home terms, you can't be seriously convinced that Global Warming is just part of a natural 'cycle', please watch 'An Inconvenient Truth', a great doco/movie that everyone should watch.

  • Dear Ashley - a good point indeed I will watch that movie soon! Thank you for the heads up. And yes, indeed, folding should be done with the idle cycles when people are using their computers. I will be making a more succinct video on folding, just 'getting to the point.' Thank you for your feedback, support, and input!

  • great to help out - come on YouTubers, participate in Folding@Home!

  • marksapollo - continued

Otherwise you'd use your computer for 2hrs a day, without contributing anything. The difference in power usage between and idle computer and a fully-beltin out one is not all that much, probs less than 30% easy.

To offset greenhouse gas emissions, i encourage you all to ask your power company to switch you over to GREEN energy sources like i did, that way you can contribute knowing your not using a 'double edged sword'

  • marksapollo - this project in my understanding was intended so that 'spare' cpu power can be harnessed for the good of Folding research. Now while all the top dog folders out there are probs running their computer 24/7 JUST for this great Folding@Home project, Folders are only asked to continue to use their computer as normal, whether its half an hour a day, 2hrs a day or more, if Folding@Home uses whats 'left over' for the time your computer is on, your contributing to the Project!

  • I am in.

  • Hey man Maybe you should respond this on Other peoples Mac vs PC Video's!

  • Sweet, i have three core 2 duo computers that i have that will hopefully help for this cause!!

  • WOW this is really AMAZING! I had no idea about this WOW I am going to be loading this on my comps collecting dust so they can help do some good in the world!

  • Dual 2.7 Ghz G5 w/

    Dual 1.42 Ghz G4 w/ Radoen 9800 Mac

    17" MBP w/ Ati X1600

    15" PB w/ Ati 9600 XT

    15" PB w/ Ati 9600 XT

All Cranking Folding@Home, and for some reason my G4 is beating my G5. (both idle)

  • Nice! My damn PS3 is the 'folding machine' no doubt!

  • Hey Alfred, I agree with the hate stuff but some of the creative videos on the subject are funny.

Whilst I agree with the whole folding at home thing, I find it a double edged sword, whilst your curing diseases on one hand, leaving your PC on 24/7 helps global warming too. And as it can use your full CPU power it can also draw the juice to run it. What do you think?

  • I think it can be running while you are using your PC, leaving power save requirements on the regular settings. And with regard to global warming, though this could be a good argument, I subscribe to the theory that it is indeed cyclical, on a planetary level. Thanks for watching, and for your input!

  • great stuff Alfred (adiblasi), great informative vid

i've been folding for nearly 12mths and enjoy the fact that i'm contributing my idle (otherwise wasted) CPU power to such a great cause! I encourage you all to participate in this great project and hopefully in the not-so-distant future, we will start seeing BIG payoffs in research! If i didn't already have my own team | Aussie Rules Footy | Team 52735 | i would certainly have joined the YouTube team 79621!

    Cheers

  • I'm always on the internet on my XP and i edit movies in Vegas 7, thats what i do on my computer. I will get a Mac computer soon, hopefully a MacBook, great video you really say awesome stuff

  • awesome... GREAT JOB AL! its about time someone did something about this mac-pc-linux bickering!

  • I am a video editor, I dont post much on YouTube, But I do projects for my school VIA my Dell Precision 380, dual core... smore <_< AND I AM Downloading this software. Al!! Thank you for posting this, and spreading something entire productive and positive in the YouTube Community! I am looking forward to doing this.

  • i am doing it. and im finally going to subscribe aswell

  • ya ps3 when you gonna play me online i also got folding home its cool...

  • Alfred, I can not believe that you already scored 4592 (!) How many PS3 did you hooked up? lol

  • Just one PS3. I have the G4 working, and the MacMini, and the MacPro (4 core whore) from time to time. A folding we will go! Our YouTube team is ALREADY in the top 5% - WOW!

  • Opps saw you already said about ps3... hehe

  • Dont forget PS3s that have linux on them!

  • "whatever, theyre all tools"

    haha

Great video/idea, I got the software running. I think its a great use of technology. Though theres no way im gonna come close to all your machines but whatever.

    Cheers Al,

    VoXZ

  • Great post, but to be correct, it should be named "MacOSX vs Windows" or "Mac vs PC". Otherwise it is like comparing a toaster with electricity =).

  • I can't do it since my computers are off. My dell dimension 2400 has shitty energy use. My Macbook that I normally use is off most of the time.

  • this is how i think a lot of people should see it. pc has its advantages in some things and mac has its advantages in some things. I prefer mac over pc just because I am in to video editing, photoshopping pictures, and making dvd's. say what you want but in the end they are both computers.

  • Curing cancer is kind of impossible on a moral level. Stoping radiation and all toxicants from food? I don't think so.

  • It's curing current cancer, not its prevention. You are right, prevention is impossible but curing is possible. There are some sometime-working medicines already.

  • Ok I am doing it!

  • Good job Al. I've been folding for nearly a year now, but my MacPro wont seem to fold properly... (it did it once) so been trying to get that fixed... username is WillZiccardi TeamMacOSX 1971

  • Nevermind, lol. I didn't watch the whole video

  • You left out Linux :(

  • Pc pwns Mac at curing cancer

  • ill be installing this on one of my Linux machines and my Windows machine and maybe even my macbook since it is on all night long anyway.

  • awesome idea, just amazing.

I'm sick and tired of people trying to make operating systems look better.

I use macs for everything from web browsing to photo editing.

i use windows for just when i cant get a mac. lol

im joining the team. im putting my windows and my three macs on it.

and soon to be my ps3

  • Unfortunately folding@home does not use both of the dual core processors and the application crashes from time to tim. But I keep on folding when I have time to do so.

  • I was involved in one exchange where I was accused of dodging the question of replacing a Mac with a Windows by a Mac evangelist.

I thought I had already answered by saying that I used both, though I prefer Mac but have things that must be done in Windows.

Nevertheless, the diehards are so ingrained that they accuse and insult EVERYBODY who doesn't share their views.

You're smarter than I am when it comes to dealing with these schmucks.

  • Screw the love DiBlasi my comp will pwn yours at curing cancer! lol

  • Oh god I haven't done folding@home since 2001. Or 2002. I forgot, anyway, folding for the team!
