The voice of Woody changed many times over the years. It is as follows: Mel Blanc (1940–1941) Ben Hardaway (1941–1949)
Danny Webb (1941–1942) Kent Rogers (1942–1944)
Grace Stafford (1950–1972) Cherry Davis (in Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
Billy West (1999–2004), but it was the animation of early woody that i love. Boy what a character. Bugs Bunny ,Popeye, and even Mickey Mouse along with those great voices were far superior during those times in my opinion.
3:37 where Woody faces STARVATION and laughs at him, that part always made me laugh. I loved how the cartoon characters of that time period never got scared at much!
In this cartoon, I don't think Mel Blanc voiced Woody Woodpecker, not counting the trademark laugh (which was an archive recording). His voice is most likely Ben Hardaway sped up (when Woody talks with his voice at normal speed at 6:22, it doesn't sound like a Mel Blanc voice, and I have good ears when it comes to Blanc's voices.)
@wileyk209zback I never said Mel Blanc did all of woody's speaking, Just the famous laugh, the "guess who?" bit and some other vocal cues. Mel was still under contract with Leon Schlesinger so could not have commited to voicing Woody on a regular basis. In fact he later tried to sue Lantz from using recordings of his Woody cues claiming he never recieved any money for its subsequent uses. He lost and the laugh remained. Lantz later used his wife to voice Woody.
I bet my last euro bill, the moose on the door scene was taken directly from Charlie Chaplin's scene with the hungry bear from ''The gold rush''!Not only that scene the entire plot. It's unbeliavable how many artists took bases and ideas from Chaplin, the first humorist of the 20th century.
LMFAO!!! STARVATION IS KILLING ME WITH THAT LAUGH WHILE SMOKING THIS CIGAR.. BUT THE REAL KILLER IS WHEN WOODY LOOKS RIGHT BACK AT HIM AND LAUGHS TOO!! THAT'S FUCKING CLASSIC!!!! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS CARTOON I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN YEARS...
this looks amazing the best copy I have scene and i've watched this one cartoon over 100 times as a kid on vhs...I had used your link on my blog I hope you don't mind (seeing how this wasnt authorised either i dont thing its a problem) check my blog , link on my channel
@bulletproofKevlar I dont need authorisation from Universal or Walter Lantz as they dont own the rights to this cartoon any more. It fell into public domain when copyright wasnt renewed so it can be freely distributed by anyone, and you are most welcome to post any of my uploads to your blog (nice blog by the way)
@Dinosorable IDK; but Woody's voice is usually sped-up in post production. I am guessing the sound editor accidently forgot to speed up Woody's voice at that part!
@Dinosorable Plus another odd thing that happens after he says that line, when Woody and the Cat begin to attack each other, both are suddenly the same size! XD
This BRILLIANT satire of the Aesop fable "The Ant and the Grasshopper" was
Walter Lantz greatest work. This comical Woody Woodpecker cartoon was his Masterpiece ! It should be considered for inclusion in the "National Film Registry"
Im sure you could, But I dont know how. The pitch change is a result of 4% film speed up to accommodate the the 50hz Pal TV system. The film is copied at 25 fps instead of 24 fps. This results in a smooth judder free image without the need for duplicating frames or pulldown methods like the 2:3 pulldown method used to get 24 fps film converted to 23.976 fps 60hz NTSC TV. Neither is perfect but at least PAL is higher resolution at 568i compared with 480i for NTSC.
@pbaloff that part impacted my life for ever .. i still remember that part i didnt even know the name of that episode just remembered that part lmfao im 25 yrs old saw this as kid my mom would buy these cartoons cuz they were on the clearance stuff

Two comments:
1. Notice how the groundhog falls out of his pants as he's ringing the bell?
2. What does the groundhog do about winter? Does he go South as well?

@NEMESIS1999 Alot of cartoons are inspired off of each other and old characters from the past. That's just the way it is which is pretty cool :)

@MarkC18 He also shouldn't have given the tornado the advice about blowing. Also, why didn't he just eat the catsup he had earlier? Dope.
