  • Very intresting.. Really don't set this kinds of video's in YT

  • I have never seen an rc lightning before

  • Poor grass!

  • Is there a video of it FLYING?

    Dean

  • Cool

  • Beautiful machines, but hideously expensive hobby. I saw a RC Gloster Javelin and MiG-19 flame out and smash to bits at a tournament a few years ago. In its own way it takes a lot of courage to fly one of these things - risking all those hours of loving construction...

  • what a lovely looking plane verry scale!!!

  • This is an excellent model, though having worked around lightenings for a few years, the inlet on the nose looks smaller than the original, other than that its brilliant.

  • So has this got a single or twin turbine like the actual aircraft?

  • This one only has a single, to keep things simple. But there are others, Eg: Mick reeves kit, that can use twin turbines.

  • Amazing workmanship from the looks of it. It's nice to see an RC Lightning (there doesn't seem to be many of them about from the little research I've done)

    An F2 varient by anychance?

  • doesn't surprise me that there aren't a lot of lightning's around. Due to aerodynamic design they'd be tough to fly (i'm assuming) and such a beautiful plane...who would want to risk damaging it :)

  • actually there are a few, and its not because they are difficult to fly...the RC versions are as easy as any other swept winger... GAD make a pusher and an EDF version that fly very well.

  • be an F1a in the 56 squadron firebirds scheme a favorite scheme, to tell the F1a from the F2 the only external difference is a small intake on the dorsal spine

  • and i suppose to complete the gaz is a total Lightning anorak the F2 and F2a serverd only with 19 and 92 squadrons and codes began with XN, as for the model she is a real beauty

  • I watched for over 2 minutes, and it never even flew. Does it fly?

  • @GrowlinWillie It does fly, sorry I should have written that in the video title. I have a video of the flight on yout tube. Thanks for the question

  • how does he know how to balance it, that's insane

  • On constant (non tapered) swept wing models, I have always balanced and the usual 30-33% MAC at mid span (averaging the MAC of the root vs. the tip. This is butch, as this is assuming equal pressure distribution but it works well enough for a test flight.

  • @gurubomb He knows how to balance it through years of experience. Shane has decades of modelflying behind him and he is an engineer by trade. You don't tackle a big, demanding and expensive project like this Lightning if you don't know what you're doing.

  • Well come on lets see it fly.

  • o much does tthat shit cost?h

  • whoa... amazing... I would give an arm to have a beauty like that.

    errr...no, wait, then I couldn't fly it... U_U

  • but then you couldn't fly it...

  • Did you ever fly it? Where is that video?

  • That is a pretty effin' cool plane.

  • That was a test run? What the hell?

  • nice

  • 2mins of nothing but a plane on the ground.... build a damn car then or make a vid of it FLYING

  • @Bulgdoom I've really had enough of reading dumb, uninformed comments in the postings from people who know NOTHING about model aircraft.

This model took years to design and build. The process of getting a big, complicated machine to a state in which it can fly takes ages. Airframe/radio/engine tests/etc. This video is of JUST ONE of its engine tests. Video of it FLYING is elsewhere...

  • @rebelVHS

You're obviously retarded, if you didnt get the idea i was talking about the shitty video and how nothing happened. No one cares how long it took, its a plane, and a video, flying should follow but doesn't

  • LINAMI I MUORT TUOJ

  • saw this at weston park last year looks superb up close.painted my scratch biult ducted fan one in this scheme(much smaller and less defined)flies ok at low to mid speed but flat out needs rated right down due to mad roll rate.will you be at southport

  • ahhhhhhh,,,,a conversation piece. We had a guy like him at our field,,,we called him rabbit man,,,he never flew,,,but would put them all together,,,fuel them,,run them,,,and then had 100 excuses why he wasn't going to fly them "today",,,

  • @tailwheelflier RIght-as you use the phrase "at our field" in your posting, I presume you're a modelflyer, right? Then how come you know nothing about the owner/builder/designer of Lightning?

For your information, Shane Harding is one of the UK's top model display pilots-have you never been to a model show???

Shane has been modelling for nearly 35 years, he's hugely talented and experienced and can fly literally everything. The video is of AN EARLY ENGINE TEST!

  • No u idiotic fool, wheres the raw evidence of that highly unstable looking jet flying with the old idiotic spastic(like u) at the radio controlls. reply please and i shall take it all back?

  • nice plane does it fly?

  • Are you a moron?

  • No u idiotic fool, wheres the raw evidence of that highly unstable looking jet flying with the old idiotic (like u) at the radio controlls. reply please and i shall take it all back?

  • 1. It produces thrust

    2. It weighs a certain amount

    3. It has an airfoil- which produces thrust.

    4. It doesnt matter what you age is... anyone can fly a bloody plane!

  • Airfoils produce lift. Powerplants produce thrust.

  • lol yeah, correction,

"3. It has an airfoil- which produces lift."

    Thanks =P

  • number 4 is very true ;)

  • Don't you know a symmetrical wing does not produce lift?

  • Quoted from my FTGU flight book...

"Symmetrical: Low lift- high drag- very little movement of centre of pressure. Good stability"

  • And most jets dont use a symmetrical wing.

But correct me if this particular one does.

  • your quotation is spot on. However all fighter jets use a symmetrical wing due to their high speeds, as a conventional airfoil would produce so much lift the plane would be uncontrollable at supersonic velocities. In fact, jets' wings don't really have a shape, they are really just like a thin blade that is designed as a plane to direct the fluid that surrounds it.

  • How about some hearing protection for you guys?

  • would certainly like to see it fly, nice piece of kit :)

  • So it isn't one of Mick Reeves' kits?

  • Nope, an own design. I think he's just flown it actually. Had a problem with the undercarriage so I'm told, but other than that she flew well.

  • It's no demonstrator. The model is totally scratch built - the guy with the tranny spent three years designing and building it. The undercarriage is a one-off CNC masterpiece created by and F1 engineer mate of the owner.

Should see it fly very soon...

  • it's probably a demonstrator model not designed to fly. you can see at the end it can't push it's self across the ground.

  • lol. you don't know much about r/c jet turbines, do you? My 1:6 f-18 does about 260 mph.

  • Yeah! Let's see that monster fly!

  • Brill'........but what about the flying...!

  • Video to be uploaded very soon of the first flight.....watch this space

  • The video is on Youtube now if you would like to see it.
