I own a napa repair shop and crap like this really gives the honest hardworking shops a bad name. It is really messed up! Make sure you make the shop show you their certifications before you let anyone ever touch your car.
Everyone should learn how to change their own oil. It's very easy to do. Because it is so easy, paying someone else to do it for you more or less tells them you probably don't know much about cars, i.e. that they can get away with ripping you off.
i took my trundra to toyota dealership for oil change they held my car for one hour whole time i was watching they told my car needs major repair and they wanted to give a rental car and pay over 2000 dollars and bullshyt its been 2 years and more and my truck is perfect ppl will try to steal from you but dont let them
Go to Jiffy Lube if you're too lazy to find a more reputable business: you get what you deserve. Always watch what they do with your car - it's responsible.
This happens every where trust me.I worked at a local shop yrs ago and thowner ripped every body of.A crew from down south came to our town to do work at a local paper mill so they thought there trucks bought down south had no block heaters in them(warmer down south that here,-40 or -50 in winter).Any how he brings the 1st truck in puts it on the hoist to knock out a frost plug to install the heater to only find out it has one so he drops the truck down and runs the cord (Continued)
@Mapleleafpete to the front and charged the company for 6 block heaters and 2 gallons of anti freeze each plus 2 hours labour, took less that 5 min to do each truck, prick.
This is why I do my own work, never go to these type of places, that it to a mom and pa shop they are here for the long haul and jiffy lubes are marketing and profit driven businesses. Plus most of the kids that work at them couldn't tell you how to rotate the tires correctly. I caught one rotating the tires on my company truck wrong. LOL stupid.
..this happens EVERYWHERE...any business that will make a profit from you are most likely ripping you off in some way or another, you just dont know it....
I think if that wetback stole my money. I would get my money back from his teeth and dump him back into the river. Then get a lawyer to sue those bastards.

years ago I worked at jiffy Lube we never change fuel filters but we did transmission service drop the pan, fluid, and gasket replace with new gasket and fluid now and never had a suck machine now they only do half the work and charge you twice
For some things it's nice to work with big companies (like Best Buy) so you get better deals and availability and nice show rooms and stuff. But on other stuff shopping at family-owned single establishments is really beneficial. There's just a lot of trust when everyone that works there lives in the same area as you and they're just trying to build repore with the community. I think car repair/service are one of those things to try doing at a local shops. Of course you still need to be cautious
@Shareallicu My family has been going to a local family-owned auto shop for a while now and it's worked out great. It's not a huge nationwide company that has a huge distance between the top management and the bottom workers. We've since built repore with them so they know our names and we know theirs (sure its the same for all their customers). So I'd just recommend trying to find a local family-owned autoshop who take more pride in their work and not trying to build countless franchises.
@Shareallicu Ask your friends and neighbors. A family-owned local shop that has a good reputation for years and years in the same place is a good bet. Also, you might know someone with a mechanic in the family... ask them who they go to. If a local business like a landscaper or construction company takes all their vehicles to one place all the time, that means they have built up trust. I worked for a shop that everyone brought their work vehicles to.
My brother worked at Jiffy lube. They where told to do that. He got fired for doing exactaly what he said. The tranny flush when his boss told him to just "Charge em" and not do it
I took my truck in to get a fuel filter and when I drove off, the truck exploded. When I called them to complain they gave me two coupons for 5% off an oil change, but I have to get the oil changes at the same time to get the 5 % off. Looks like they just got screwed out of $1.38!
Bastards! Never Ever take your car to any of those lube shops (Jiffy-Ez), even if you get promotional coupons its not worth it, they are crooks, and if something goes wrong they wont own up to it. Best thing to do is learn how to do your own oil change or find yourself an honest mechanic which you would be lucky if you find one.
These guys are low life scum bags. How difficult is it to do it honestly? Do they charge and pocket the parts they supposedly changed and resell them? SCUM BAGS!!!!!!
I fix cars for a living and today i got a van that econo lube says they fixed the rear brakes pads, cylinders and a clean up nothing was done and the poor guy has to pay twice for the same job i go to youre house and fix it in front of you no scams call me in los angeles 562 322 0081 MARIO
That Steven Ayoub character is one shady bastard bitch!!! Exactly the kind of people Jippy Screw hires as their District Managers. "Get the money, screw the idiot customer". That's the mantra they must follow.
oh maybe you cant change your oil but I did and no problems with it. If you want it done right....I dont even trust the dealers! dumb motherfuckers deserve to get ripped!
@CdnSpecOps there called lube-techs.. and no you don't need to be a mechanic.. changing oil is easy.. im 17, still in high school.. and im one of the best at the lube shop where i work.. an actual mechanic wold be busy oh umm being a mechanic lol
@armymike24 The only way you can void a warranty is by using the wrong oil specification or using the oil long past what the oil's drain interval was designed for by the oil company.
I had an oil change by Jiffy Lube, and they put the filter on so tight that I had to break out a special wrench to pull it out. They also use really cheap parts.
i'm pretty sure I got ripped off on the transmission flush at an EZ lube last year. Next time I'm gonna be standing there and watch everything those douche bags do!
OMG! I thought I was being paranoid wondering if the quicky lube joints I've been to were doing the work they said they were doing. I'll never trust anyone again.
BEWARE.... A lot of newer vehichles, the fuel filter is in the gas tank. On those vehichles, BEWARE theMUST drop the tank. In other words rarely if at all do they get changed. You usually change the fuel pump at that time. Another RIPOFF scheme.
that looks like a fuel filter on the tank though...i wouldnt be surprised for them to design the car with the filter in such a hard to get spot. did you ever see the battery placement on the mid 90's dodge intrepid (or a similar car from dodge i dont quite remember) its like behind the bumper. my moms jeep cherokee had the drain plug for the rad behind the headlight socket, so i had to remove the WHOLE front grill to drain it. there was NO way to do it by taking the light out ethier.
Has anyone ever heard of a company called Tune-Up Masters? Well, back in 2000 I took my 1989 Nissan Maxima to a Santa Monica location to get an oil change and they drained the oil out of the engine and didn't put any new engine oil back into it. They told me that it was ready and I said no its not because I didn't see anyone put oil back into the engine. I'm not stupid. The car had been on a lift for about 20 minutes and they did not put any new oil in it.
Never ever go to Jippy Screw. They're well-known for robbing their customers and even ruining cars after screwing up simple oil changes. And don't fall for the "that doesn't happen at my husband's Jiffy Lube". They're all suspect. Some are worse than others, but don't take a chance by going to any one of these shacks. You'll regret it.
Wow...what a shame. It gives the honest guys a bad reputation. My husband is a manager at Jiffy Lube here in AZ... and he is really honest. They put him in a store where the former manager had been lazy, and he cleaned house. He is actually still fighting laziness, but those men who didn't follow procedure and just didn't care were fired. My man doesn't play games, he is a great manager!
I would say the independent auto shops that aren't big chains. Not saying your husband should move now or anything. I mean the pressure on managers at Jiffy Lube to sell, sell, sell has got to be hard on them.
You're right..it is. If my hubby doesn't average $65 per customer for the day (along with have a certain number of cars total), he has to explain it to his boss. However, that doesn't explain why the guys in this video sold the service and didn't perform it. That makes no sense. The trans. flush is done by a machine...how hard is it to hook it up and let it do the rest? Y'know?
you see this is exactly why i do things on my car on my own trust noone..more people need to learn how to do these simple things id be glad to teach people so long as they dont get ripped off
District manager steve ahue, what a fucking bald shitbag, grow some balls asshole. How can these guys work there and lie to customers. And new car dealer service are worse crooks.People wake up!
I'm a mechanic. If you think this is bad,the dealerships are worse.Don't ever go for the wallet flush.SCAM.I'm working out of my backyard now because I have to be honest. This is EVERYWHERE!! They set up our pay structure so ,if we are'nt crooks we can't EARN a living. The scam is on me and you.Fuck that.15 years seems wasted.
It's a vicious cycle of customers not knowing anything about cars, the shops knowing they can exploit this and so some do, and ones that have tried to be honest breaking down and pulling the same shit so they can make as much money as the ones that do and stay in business. I have a friend who didn't make it as an apprentice at Canadian Tire because he refused to push new tires on old people who didn't need them.
Why take chances? Go to a reputable shop recommended by your friends or reviewed on Yelp.
Jiffy Lube emptied my engine oil on my new car, did NOT refill it with new oil then charged me. 4k miles later I took my car to the dealership and they told me that oil did NOT register on the dipstick. Very dangerous.
I have heard other awful stories from friends who've been ripped off by Jiffy Lube.
This is excellent work, but not completely new. 60 minutes did a similar (if less sophisticated) expose in the 1970s. Keep it up... jiffy lube deserves to lose!
I'm overdue for a change. I went to Valv for years but they kept getting more exp. and pushing the scam flush svcs. And ripping my windshield wipers. Idiots, it's the wipers you sell that you rip. I'm going to look for an indiv. who needs some cash in these rough economic times to do an at-home oil chg. svc. because the crook mechanics are so many that they have ruined my trust in these companies.
They ripped off my friend. He went in and talked to the manager who told him there was nothing he could do. That he could sue the shop but he would never see a cent because they had so many people suing them already.
Dumasses filled my washer fluid with water in the middle of january, busted my washer tank. they also never changed my filter.... I know this is because it still had the same filter my company shop put in it... they mark the date when they do the change
Jiffy lube un plugged a line in my car to get to one of the belts and left it un plugged. Thanks to them I had to pay a REAL mechanic to fix it. $400 down the drain. FUCKIN DUMB ASSES
It was impossible to recieve a bonus, or even maintain an "acceptable" ticket average in these companies without having someone on your staff with ... ethical issues...
While I never Practiced these "tactics", I saw plenty who did. I managed a store in charlotte, NC, at which time I refused these business practaces. I found it difficult to compete with other stores. The company I worked for in charlotte, 'South lubes, Inc.', used a bulk oil we refered to as "E 1030". We were repeatedly instructed by regional and district managers to use this oil in place of the Pennzoil 10W30 that was advertised.
One of the worst times to go to one of these places is when they're not busy. If they've had a quiet day then they'll try to sell you anything and everything to try to make some money.
dude that district manager got the fucking shit fired out of him!!!!! i bet he got slapped by the regional manager cause his bonus got revoked for his stupidity
Had a truck inspected on Battleground Ave in Greensboro NC and they charged $50.00 to "adjust the carburetor to pass inspection". Called them back and asked them how it was possible to adjust the carburetor on a throttle body. It was not until after I threatened to contact the NCDOT, that the morons refunded the money. I knew something was up when they tried to slip a $30.00 "headlight alignment" thru A/P on 3 brand new trucks. Don't deal with these people. They are a bunch of crooks.
generally jli doesnt even do these state inspections. its like going to a walmart and not getting enough service- reason being? a bad manager. not all are like this.
jiffy did it to my mom went for oil change cause was busy mom check level of oil before leaving it was good dove for 100 miles or so heard tap pulled over checked retop oil drove 200 miles started next day loud knock called jiffy lube manger came to house check filter watched him take off filter no tools bare hands switch out blame fram bad seal cost mom 1000 dollars junkyard motorswap dint didnt say im sorry or nothing no help with payment of motor or labor really screwed my mom
You're probably best sticking with the Mom and Pop oil change places rather than the big chain names. Mr. Lube, Jiffy Lube, EZ Lube: they all have an agenda to sell, sell, sell. Customer happiness? They wouldn't know it if it their ass.
the sad things is just like any business is that one franchisee or one store does a bad service and it reflects on the full community. Most owners in any industry or company does as best as they can and also more than they should at times to help out but only the bad gets displayed. I can name numerous occasions were dealer ships are doing this kind of thing and always gets away with it
k well i donèt like the way they only spied on jiffy lube, to me it looks like they were probably getting paid from another company to target that company, eveyr company has honest workers, and every company has dishonest workers, but if youère dumb enough to get something changed and you donèt notice it that is your own fault.
Not everyone is obligated to check every piece is switched out - you're telling me your grandmother goes and checks fuel filters and tranny fluid? And this wasn't some isolated bad apple if 5 out of 9 shops didn't do the transmission flush. I assume you are right, however, that many other shops are as bad - certainly the quick lube type places. These are the lower strata of humanity.
losers. For one, never let a nigger touch your ride. For two, never let a nigger lie to you.For 3, never spend money at a niggers business. Guaranteed to rip you off.
"For one, never let a nigger touch your ride. For two, never let a nigger lie to you.For 3, never spend money at a niggers business. Guaranteed to rip you off." [rumncokecanada]
Was the white guy at Sherman Oaks some sort of white nigger?
i hate jiffy lube. i work at a dealership as an oil tech for tom scott honda we change the oil filter washers every time. we do trany services and everything the part about not having time 2 do every service is wrong no matter how many people we have waiting we do all the services if the customer pays of course 4 crying out loud thats what we get paid to do
Most of that stuff you can do yourself. Changing oil, air filter, even some fuel filters. Like JusSkott said, pick up your owners manual and get familiar with your car. The more you know, the more you can do and the more you know the job was done right!
Places where the automechanic is not the owner is where you don't want to go. Tune Up Masters went out of biz in some places because they are just a bunch of tune up monkeys
Message me i can tell you shit tons of things that jiffy lube does wrong, from training, to services, even telling you need services you don't. Best thing you the consumer is READ YOUR FUCKING OWNERS MANUEL! the more you know about your vehicle, the less of a chance you get fucked over. Also mom and pops shops are the best place to go. or a place that actually has actual ASE certified Mechanics on site. not some BS jiffy lube wanna be tech.
Yeah about those camera's. lol. keep on thinking that's keeping the employee's from fucking you over. Oh and that fuel injection cleaning they charge 60.00 for is nothing more than sea foam you can get from any auto parts store for 10.00.. t tech machines take 16 - 18 qts of fluid to flush a trash they need to fill it. completely not just a 1/3 like a district manager likes to do here in richmond va. true story
Indeed, the consumer is plenty allowed to requestest seeing old / used parts. Also, the best fix for this is to stop going to these places like ex lube etc. Instead, find a trusted mechanic taht is ASE certified or recomened by the AAA.
I've always taken my car to a small shop owned by a friend of a friend. Sometimes it's a little more expensive, but I know when they say something needs to be changed it really does, and they'll actually change it.
This is making me feel very fuckin ticked off considering I just got a job at Jiffy Lube in NH. I don't know this paticular Jiffy Lube to do this kind of scamming but I won't work there if I find out they do, yeah I'm pretty rip shit.
bring your car to a private mechanic who owns his own business. You won't get ripped off from someone who owns their own business and relies on return customers.
I would get pissed off too if it happened to me, but this is petty compares to what's going on out there. Everybody is stealing and cheating and these guys just happened to fall victim of an entrapment. The whole capitalist system is nothing but theft and murder. Take medical system for example, you pay an arm and a leg for the coverage and then top off with a copay. It's a lose lose situation. Isurance company is making billion for close to nothing coverages.
The quick lube in Bensonhurst brooklyn, off of 16th ave next to the diner had this spanish guy working there trying to ripp off everybody. they ripp people off everyday, dont go there!!!

EASY, you deserve to get ripped off if you take your car in to strangers.

@armymike24 are you high?
planetsareoverrated 1 year ago
@armymike24 The only way you can void a warranty is by using the wrong oil specification or using the oil long past what the oil's drain interval was designed for by the oil company.
amsoilinfo 1 year ago
@armymike24
Not true.
Look up the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act.
It prohibits auto-manufacturers from voiding your warranty by doing your own maintenance and/or adding after market parts

I had an oil change by Jiffy Lube, and they put the filter on so tight that I had to break out a special wrench to pull it out. They also use really cheap parts.

BEWARE.... A lot of newer vehichles, the fuel filter is in the gas tank. On those vehichles, BEWARE theMUST drop the tank. In other words rarely if at all do they get changed. You usually change the fuel pump at that time. Another RIPOFF scheme.
MrJohnnyrace 2 years ago
No, the fuel filter is NEVER in the tank. On newer cars and trucks the fuel pump is in the tank, but the fuel filter is never in the tank.
starbucksmunky 2 years ago
that looks like a fuel filter on the tank though...i wouldnt be surprised for them to design the car with the filter in such a hard to get spot. did you ever see the battery placement on the mid 90's dodge intrepid (or a similar car from dodge i dont quite remember) its like behind the bumper. my moms jeep cherokee had the drain plug for the rad behind the headlight socket, so i had to remove the WHOLE front grill to drain it. there was NO way to do it by taking the light out ethier.

You'll regret it.
carrieyazel 2 years ago
Completely agree. I know 4 people, including myself, who have had their vehicles damaged or ruined by them. All from different locations.
bbug2k 2 years ago
Wow...what a shame. It gives the honest guys a bad reputation. My husband is a manager at Jiffy Lube here in AZ... and he is really honest. They put him in a store where the former manager had been lazy, and he cleaned house. He is actually still fighting laziness, but those men who didn't follow procedure and just didn't care were fired. My man doesn't play games, he is a great manager!
conservativemama09 2 years ago
Hopefully your husband can move up to a reputable repair shop to be a manager at. Their nickname isn't "Jippy Screw" for nothing!
carrieyazel 2 years ago
What repair shops do you consider "reputable"? Personally, I think it's all relative... you get bad people in all types of businesses.
conservativemama09 2 years ago
I would say the independent auto shops that aren't big chains. Not saying your husband should move now or anything. I mean the pressure on managers at Jiffy Lube to sell, sell, sell has got to be hard on them.
carrieyazel 2 years ago
You're right..it is. If my hubby doesn't average $65 per customer for the day (along with have a certain number of cars total), he has to explain it to his boss. However, that doesn't explain why the guys in this video sold the service and didn't perform it. That makes no sense. The trans. flush is done by a machine...how hard is it to hook it up and let it do the rest? Y'know?
conservativemama09 2 years ago
you see this is exactly why i do things on my car on my own trust noone..more people need to learn how to do these simple things id be glad to teach people so long as they dont get ripped off

kubotaman2004 2 years ago
It's a vicious cycle of customers not knowing anything about cars, the shops knowing they can exploit this and so some do, and ones that have tried to be honest breaking down and pulling the same shit so they can make as much money as the ones that do and stay in business. I have a friend who didn't make it as an apprentice at Canadian Tire because he refused to push new tires on old people who didn't need them.
newguy33X 2 years ago
I will never go to Jiffy Lube again.

It was impossible to recieve a bonus, or even maintain an "acceptable" ticket average in these companies without having someone on your staff with ... ethical issues...
jfirewindz 2 years ago
While I never Practiced these "tactics", I saw plenty who did. I managed a store in charlotte, NC, at which time I refused these business practaces. I found it difficult to compete with other stores. The company I worked for in charlotte, 'South lubes, Inc.', used a bulk oil we refered to as "E 1030". We were repeatedly instructed by regional and district managers to use this oil in place of the Pennzoil 10W30 that was advertised.
jfirewindz 2 years ago
One of the worst times to go to one of these places is when they're not busy. If they've had a quiet day then they'll try to sell you anything and everything to try to make some money.

I can name numerous occasions were dealer ships are doing this kind of thing and always gets away with it
CWBRiders 3 years ago
k well i donèt like the way they only spied on jiffy lube, to me it looks like they were probably getting paid from another company to target that company, eveyr company has honest workers, and every company has dishonest workers, but if youère dumb enough to get something changed and you donèt notice it that is your own fault.
teengene 3 years ago
Not everyone is obligated to check every piece is switched out - you're telling me your grandmother goes and checks fuel filters and tranny fluid? And this wasn't some isolated bad apple if 5 out of 9 shops didn't do the transmission flush. I assume you are right, however, that many other shops are as bad - certainly the quick lube type places. These are the lower strata of humanity.

i hate jiffy lube. i work at a dealership as an oil tech for tom scott honda we change the oil filter washers every time. we do trany services and everything the part about not having time 2 do every service is wrong no matter how many people we have waiting we do all the services if the customer pays of course 4 crying out loud thats what we get paid to do
holleroller3 3 years ago
Most of that stuff you can do yourself. Changing oil, air filter, even some fuel filters. Like JusSkott said, pick up your owners manual and get familiar with your car. The more you know, the more you can do and the more you know the job was done right!
Quez792004 3 years ago
Places where the automechanic is not the owner is where you don't want to go. Tune Up Masters went out of biz in some places because they are just a bunch of tune up monkeys
allknowingguru 3 years ago
Message me i can tell you shit tons of things that jiffy lube does wrong, from training, to services, even telling you need services you don't. Best thing you the consumer is READ YOUR FUCKING OWNERS MANUEL! the more you know about your vehicle, the less of a chance you get fucked over. Also mom and pops shops are the best place to go. or a place that actually has actual ASE certified Mechanics on site. not some BS jiffy lube wanna be tech.
JusSkott 3 years ago
Yeah about those camera's. lol. keep on thinking that's keeping the employee's from fucking you over. Oh and that fuel injection cleaning they charge 60.00 for is nothing more than sea foam you can get from any auto parts store for 10.00.. t tech machines take 16 - 18 qts of fluid to flush a trash they need to fill it. completely not just a 1/3 like a district manager likes to do here in richmond va. true story
JusSkott 3 years ago
Wow...I was considering going to Jiffy Lube too...HELL...Not now. I guess I will go to Oil Can Henry's instead...

This makes all honest technicians look bad. As a consumer, ask to see old parts or watch the service being performed if possible.
DenLorsTools 3 years ago 2
Indeed, the consumer is plenty allowed to requestest seeing old / used parts. Also, the best fix for this is to stop going to these places like ex lube etc. Instead, find a trusted mechanic taht is ASE certified or recomened by the AAA.
