  • Three Dog Night must have been a very big fan of Free. Their two LP's in 1970 had Free song's. from

  • This was actually from their 1969 LP.

  • Love the Bass sound on this.

  • Comment removed

  • the three dog night version is better

  • If you like this try searching Jimmy Bowskill...the guy looks just like the guitarist Paul Kossoff and plays so good he impressed Paul Rogers himself. Some guitarists today carry on this sound and Jimmy Bowskill is one of them

  • dude, this is my band

    really thanks!

  • Great post! thank you!

  • this, i'm a mover, and the hunter. u can just lock me away and give me those 3 songs, and i'll make it thru wahatever you do to me. BAD ASS!

  • Killer tune, Paul Rodger's voice was amazing at this point, so rough!

  • @TheGypsyBangles:

He has since given up smoking and his voice is smoother.

  • @professoricon Kind of a shame really... I totally loved the gruff crackle he had in Tons of Sobs. Totally the biggest influence on my own singing in The Gypsy Bangles!

  • @TheGypsyBangles:

I know what you mean, but I guess a singer has to protect their voice as they grow older.

Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant may be cases in point.

  • @professoricon Yeah very True. Robert Plant is but a shadow of his former self/voice. However Paul Rodgers voice is actually pretty amazing considering his vintage...

  • class ...very yummy!

  • Paul Kossoff - proof that god plays a gold top!

  • Great tune. One of Free's best, though underappreciated.

  • what a cracking bass

  • What a track - thanks for sharing. And agree that this is among their very best. Free was my first ever gig ....and still one of my favourites.

  • professoricon!!! you are spot on!!! so sad i never i have never met you!!!

  • absolutely the tops!! great choice!! I am 52 yrs old and this takes me back to my youth, when we all felt wronged, god, how wrong we were!! I just hope we never forget classics like this!!! Paul and the rest of the band were iconic geniuses!!!

  • 2 people who dislike feel the Bass in this great song is too strong,LOL. C'mon you two grow some balls and guts in ya'all Hahahaha

  • paul rogers is indeed the man - love his music love his voice

  • Rodgers was the best blues rock singer ever..."Right.."

  • Paul is the man

    in

    Performance

  • sex on a stick!

  • ...and these guys, Kossoff and Fraser, were very early 20's. Smaller egos, bigger feel, less complicated and honest music that stands forever.

  • FANTASTIC WHAT A VOICE WHAT A BAND MY FAVOURITE ROCK SONG BY A LONG COUNTRY MILE

  • "Let me hold your tongue oh! I know you'll understand the way I feel" He's not referring to where her taste buds are either, he just wants to play with the womans hot spot. Very alpha male.

  • Oh you tell her Paul,Andy,Kossoff, and Simon. That sweet pussy. Oh God mercy. Never get tired of this.

  • Free and Humble Pie horribly and disgracefully the most underrated British Rock Groups.

Who are the idiots that did not give these British Rock Groups the recognition they deserved?

  • @BBQFanNo1 Yeah you can put UFO in that mix as well.

  • superb..free the band..free the feeling! rip koss.

  • A TRUE LEGEND BAND..Paul Rodgers, the greatest voice in rock..R.I.P. Paul Kossoff..so sadly missed,

  • This was my first great album - I listened to it endlessly. Great solo - awesome riffs and fantastic voice.

  • type in paul rodgers free woman, worked for me!

  • This is so rock steady. Why are vocalists from the North East so hot? Imma listening 2 this on a loop. Xx

  • FREE!

  • Paul Rodgers + tight pants = Hotttttttttttttttttttttt

  • And Paul Rodgers doing 3 concerts in Ca. in June 2010 Solo- gotta see !!

  • This is by far their best song and one of the sexiest rock songs ever performed.

  • Never mind Paul Rodgers, it's Kossoff who was the one to watch......wow......

  • @BetteLovesAngus:

One of the greatest ever guitar solos IMHO.

  • @professoricon I like his solo in Mr. Big at the Isle of wight 1970, IMHO of course

  • @hendrix950:

    Excellent solo also.

  • paul rodgers, mmm mmm!looks much beta than the guys 2day.a real bloke.classic rock!!!

  • I love this song too, and I wish I could find the tab for it and more on youtube. Funny, but whenever I do a search or google 'free woman' I don't get the results I'm looking for!

  • I haven't tried free woman (perhaps I might),but I have tried free.

    Try Free Kossoff Rodgers woman!

  • @BonjourRich

I have a tab for it if your intersted.. or check out my channel for a video where I make an attemp to play the solo

  • Merci.. appreciate this much... I grew up hearing it... with my Grandparents LOL

    Respect

  • Damn, I don't think I've heard this song since my Free 8-track tape got eaten in my 67 Mustang GT fastback somewhere around 1972. Thanks for sharing!

  • Like him so much better w/o the unibrow and beard. So fine.

  • This is FAB!! The video matches the mood of the music. Paul looks yummy, even with a unibrow.:)

  • I Love Free!!

I love the style of Andy Fraser when he played in Free. Great bass player

  • Please also check out "Moonshine" for a great guitar solo.

  • god damn. listen to the timbre of his voice. just the perfect amount of scratchiness.

  • Comment removed

  • Free represents an elegance in Rock'n'Roll. They knew that sometimes less means more.

Love you Kossoff and your soulful guitar playing.

  • For the best of Koss, check out my posting of "Moonshine".

  • Thanks professoricon

I've got it already in my favs for a long time, I love that song!!!

  • Now that's real bad news...

  • Hmm.. seeing that you are the only guy in this thread endorsing their version, I would say you don't represent most people.

Don't get me wrong, it's great that Three Dog Night did a cover of this song. Gave Free some early exposure, but let's not kid ourselves. The original is seldom topped.

Especially if that original is the mighty Paul Rodgers.

  • The "most people" comment certainly had me confused.

  • I'm just saying, the three part harmonys and arrangement took the 3DN version up a level.

    but this is also good

  • is this a remaster sounds great.

  • looks like a young Chris Robinson on guitar stage right... great tune!

  • Man this song is just so fucking ace. Free are a hidden gem, that's for sure.

  • No one can beat these four. Too bad Kossof messed too much with heroin...

  • More bad news - Andy Fraser is HIV positive.

  • oh my :(

  • i was really suprised to read this is not on favourite lists - its 'free' at their best!

  • Bass player only 17 when this recorded! - Andy Fraser

  • Now this is what I call MUSIC!!!

  • This is the music that road trips, dreams and ten thousand other adventures were born from. This is REAL music. Yeah yeah...I know this came out way before I was born, doesn't change the fact that its REAL MUSIC!!!

    Wow....This is so awesome!

    Dm

  • Check out my other videos for more of Free - especially "Moonshine". Please leave a rating.

  • Paul Rodgers is what I always thought the bench mark for every other rock singer. He is simply the best,

  • Many feel the same way.

  • Music played with a lot of feeling. Teenage boys and yet so professional.... RIP Paul Kossoff, the genious.

  • This is great music not like the shit the kids are listening to today such as Dragonforce where everything is played at a million Miles per hour

  • Please check out my other videos, especially "Moonshine" by Free for the slowest ever rock.

  • "Moonshine" includes a minumental guitar solo which builds like honey in a honeycombe.

  • Im a kid from today, and i have no idea who Dragonforce is. Not all kids nowadays have such a bad taste in music as we all assume..Its just the music from today that's shit.

  • WOMAN

  • THAT IS FANTASTIC What a great sound!!

  • wicked tune n the guitar solo,so fluid vibrato...the coolest blues rock band ever!

  • ¡¡QUE WENO SE PASO!!!

  • el mejor

  • This song always reminds me a lot of "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf...kind of has that same drive to it.

  • I'd say 'The Stealer' sounds a lot like 'The Pusher', especially the opening guitar chords. Even a similarity in the title This song is quite unique.

  • his voice ?? and how old was rodgers then ??????

  • Absolutely the best!

  • Great song from a great band! Thanks for posting!

  • ...respect for posting the track....yet another classic from Free, yet so many....and a good video too.....thanks

  • thanks professoricon, it is my favorite song of the FREE too, and I really enjoy it!!!! hats off for y!!!!

  • Why can't rocks stars stay young and cute forever??

  • Great post. Great song, I agree.

  • i just fried my brain, cause i thought this was on ' tons of sobs ' . shit i gotta stop doing acid, man. anywho's, 1968 was a good year. neat.

  • Great song. Thanks.

  • Pauls voice here is so fucking nasty and raspy! He sounds like a male Janis Joplin here. What an incredibly underrated band they are. Fucking legends indeed!

  • this is one bad ass song. Kudos on opening my eyes to the ever growing pool of free songs I absolutely fucking love.

  • Please check out my other videos for more Free.

  • i think this has always been my favourite..maybe highway song

    So, thanks for uploading !

  • I've got a couple of live versions of Free playing this piece live.

  • of course they did, i saw them play it live n sunderland

  • ughhhhhhhhhhhh i funkin love this!!!!!

  • This is one of my top two Free performances.

  • awesome, whats the other one?

  • "Be My Friend" - live BBC version. I have posted it here on YT.

  • Ohhhh, such a good song :)

  • The live BBC performance is exceptional.

  • this Rocks. reminds me of the days at christies beach high.

  • you just gotta love it..

  • One of the UK's premier bands of the era. Blew Hendrix away when he heard this outfit the first time.

PR...one of the great soul singers of any time, any place, any color! Seen him with Badco 4 times and with Jimmy as well. So powerful & bluesy. Just fucking amazing simply said.

  • what a legend! Don't even argue! x

  • This song likes Jason, A guitarman or bass from England. remember here you surf lesson, Natural surfer HAHAHA

    5 stars this song rocks!

  • whoooo - i love this song

  • god this is good.

  • strike a match with his voice.

  • Yeah baby, love this shit!

  • Koss is my favourite guitarist. Always was, and will be. Great vid. Thanks.

  • This one of my favourite ever guitar solos. Please check out my other videos for more Koss and Free.

  • just learning tinter from my kids. shared house with sandie,, wot d u know?

  • do you have anything with "over the green hills"? one of my favourites, but i cant find it anywhere!!

  • Look for the album''Tons of sobs''...where the first track and the last one are those you're searching for( Part I & Part II)

  • The remastered version of "Tons of Sobs" includes eight bonus tracks, the last of which is a different (better) version of "over the green hills" taken from the live BBC sessions.

  • shit I know what you mean man...Koss just feels every note he plays deep down. there's no other guitarist like him. I mean Hendrix and Page and others are amazing, and they dazzle with a mixture of technique and soul, but in terms of pure soul Kossoff wins hands down.

  • nobody could write anything like this anymore. such a simple riff but so effective

  • i was into them at the time, and they still cut it. mr big was the best they ever did and alright now no longer is.....allright now!!!

  • Fantastic.

  • Great band, thanks!!!

  • fantastic thankyou,

  • Ah, love this song. Thanks so much.

  • the 1st 2 free albums are my favourites. cracking stuff

  • Superb music

  • try "Song of yesterday"

  • Rodgers was one and only lion beetwen white rock singers, rest were leopards, tigers, jaguars.he was and still is the best.

  • What a fantastic vibrato Paul Kossoff had on the Guitar!.....

  • Check out my video of "Moonshine" for the greatest ever Kossoff solo.

  • ez igen ez zene

  • legyen szíves ellenőriz az én -m más video is

  • found free live in a council dump aged 13 took it home stuck it on,,,,,fuck bit diff to mud gary glitter ect blew me away fell in love with free still my fav band of all time and im 46 now

  • Crikey. I forgot just how good this was! Got all the free albums but rarely listen to Tons of Sobs or this. Must dust down the CD's!! The bass is fantastic on this tune and Kossoff makes it scream. Belter Tim :)

  • Faultless.

  • Favorite Free track and you've done it proud

Paul Rodgers phrasing technique is just superb.

  • professoricon, I too love this track, and it was always great live, as well. In fact, I think Free's self-titled album may be my favourite of the band's six studio albums, owed greatly to the masterful vocals of Mr Paul Rodgers. On this album he demonstrated that he was technically and emotionally exceptional, as well as having probably the most powerful Rock voice ever. His voice is particularly anguished and smouldering on this album. Great stuff!

  • I think PR has a great rock voice, but there are many others to equal him (IMHO): Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, insert your favourites. However, singing the blues, there is just no-one better (or equal), and I include Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green, or anyone else.

  • You've surpassed yourself again "professoricon" Nice work.

  • I gotta burnin' heart !

  • Sorry, but LOL
