This is an excellent video. I love pineapple and never wld have thought about making jam with the juice. thanks once again for sharing such an informative video!
You're right on the prices on the specialty jams and jellies. This is one of the MANY reasons I love prepping. You get a gourmet item for pennies!!!! You don't feel like you are missing out on anything. This looks amazing I am canning chilli today because of Noreen now I'm going to dig out those cans of pineapple and get the dehydrator going.I was concerned would go out of date and use them like this. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself...DUH!! I think you're super awesome!!! XOXOXOXO
@bearlysceneranch2011 LOL...You made my day. I just got in from school, all tired, read your note, and you perked me right up! You're gonna LOVE the pineapple jam/syrup. We go through it like crazy. I never would have dreamed I'd like it so much. I also use it to sweeten other things sometime. Like maybe if I make a little fruit salad and it taste a little tart, I put a couple of tablespoons of the pineapple syrup on it. Yum! Let me know how you like it. Love ya!
@katzcradul We love the syrup....I made hawaiin pancakes from the LDS pancake mix with macadamia nuts and shredded coconut....I also went a little crazy and made pineapple desert topping and sweet and sour glaze from the ball canning book...but the bell of the ball was the dehydrated pineapple. I dehydrated 8 cans and it won't last the weekend...my littlest one is like a dog with a bone on these things every time I turn around she is in the bag....LOL
@bearlysceneranch2011 I'm so glad you're pleased with the results. I'm just like your daughter...I can't say out of the dehydrated pineapple. What I like best about it is that it's the cure for a sweet tooth. When I'm craving somthing sugary and sweet, I grab a pineapple ring and the craving goes away. It's sweet, and chewy, and delicious. Your pancakes sound amazing!
Great video! I've been able to stock up on cans of pineapple for 50 cents over the past two weeks. I'll definitely get as many more as I can before the sale is over now that I've seen this!
Hi, I tried your pineapple.. last night I put them in my dehydrator before going to bed.. this afternoon I couldn't stop eating them... Thank You Thank You, I sent your video to friends and family and then the update on the finished product to them today.. Wonderful treat! You can bet I will buying pineapple everytime I shop at Walmart!
I LOVE your video's!!! =) How do you put them in canning jars and vacume seal them? I just learned how to do boiling water canning for jam this year. However, I was wondering how you preserve your dehydrated food. =) Thanks for your help. Blessings to you!
@oodles5poodles Thank you so much. I'm really glad you like my videos. I posted a' vacuum sealing jars' video a while back. The name of the video was 'Vacuum Sealing Food Saver' on 7/7/11. I think this will help you out. If it doesn't answer all your questions, just send me a pm.
I have looked at all your videos, I Love them! You gave me hope that I can do this .
I have a health problem, but I also have 2 grand childen that will come to us if there is ever a bad problem.... I saw on one of the videos a place were the 2 LDS ladies help with information. Can you send me the link to them. Thank you for the good work... If I can help you please let me hear from you.
@Cloe333 I gave fair warning that they were delicious. I know, it's so hard to keep from eating them all. I like them better dried than how they come out of the can.
Oh my goodness and I mean goodness , this pineapple jelly or syrup is delicious .
Thank you so much , I can’t wait to try the dehydrated pineapple tomorrow . I had a few spoons full left in the bottom of the pan , so I let it cool , and wow it is great .
@carolann183 I told you it was good! lol I pour a tiny bowl of it in the morning and dip my toast made from homemade bread in it. Yum! If you saw my cranberry bars video, I also use the pineapple syrup to make the powdered sugar icing. Spectacular! I've been thinking about how it would be to make a white sheet cake, and when it cool, generously brush the pineapple syrup on it, and then 'ice' with whip topping mixed with a little crushed pineapple, and garnish with toasted coconut. Wow!
I've done this and they are delicious. What I do with them is cut them in half and melt chocolate on half of each piece and let harden. Great candy to give for the holidays.
I do very much the same thing with my pineapples, does your Sam's have the chunk 128oz cans Katz? I found that to be the best deal here in my area the last time I went it was $3.83 for 128oz can. They are hard to keep around here too, lol. Take care.
Thank you so much for sharing...love your ideas...
Guess what I found today at Giant Tiger?(we have those here in Canada, do you?) Pineapples in the can in the juice for .99 cents a can....about 10 slices in each can...wooot!
I love this idea! We are not getting much out of the garden right now so the dehydrator is sitting idle. And we just used the last of my grape jelly. Two birds, one stone! I will be making a trip to Walmart tomorrow.
Do you think you could freeze the juice until you have time to make the jelly/syrup? I don't have time to do it right now but I want to try to dehydrate. Thanks and I LOVE your videos!
My absolute most favorite candy in the entire history of mankind is a piece of dehydrated pineapple. Way back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and I got my first dehydrator I tested it out on pineapple slices. I was hooked. Thanks for the video!
will have to look for those! i dehydrated a big can of tid bits once... never thought about using the liquid for syrup or jam... that is a great idea... tkx...
Again, excellent video ... I wonder if sprinkling a little sugar on them before dehydration would make them more like what you get in the dehydrated mixed fruit packs at the store? (for those of us with a sweet tooth)
love, love, love it. As always great video and ideas. I buy the tidbits from sams in the #10 can and dehydrated them. The juice is in my fridge waiting for just such an idea. I am making gifts this year for friends, family and 6 teacher gifts. I already have peach butter, but want to make the syrup. What about peach syrup from canned peaches in light syrup? Also I have the flex batch pectin will it work the same? Thank you and God Bless Carrie
I would love to try the pineapples, however the dehydrator I bought right after your video on the one from aldi's is already dead. I think I burnt it up by using it so much. It was wonderful while it lasted. I guess you get what you pay for. Now I'm trying to decide whether to buy another one right away or wait til next garden season. Thanks for sharing......take care
Man you are right on time. I was just looking at those pineapple cans for $1 at Walmart the other day. I dont have a dehydrator yet but I was wondering weither or not you think I could make the jelly with the pineapple in it and water bath can it? I dont have a pressure canner either. I do have jars and lids and a huge pot. I just need some type of rack to put in the bottom. Any suggestions? I am really trying to work with what i got.
@Ejahi Yes, you can make the jelly with pineapple in it. Don't need a pressure canner, just a boiling water bath. Don't need a fancy rack, just lay a clean dishtowel in the bottom of your put, to put your jars on. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out. K
I dehydrated mango in my dehydrator and it turned the screen yellow. Is this going to bother my other stuff that I dehydrate or is there a way to get the stain out? (I thought you might have an idea) thanks!!!
Great idea, I am going to try this. Buying the dried pineapple in the store is pretty expensive, this seems a whole lot cheaper. Thanks for the tip about the trays, I have the Nesco Gardenmaster and I didn't know you need to use at least 4 trays. Does it matter which tray is left empty if you only need three?
I absolutely love dehydrated pineapple! This is an awesome tip! Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I recently got a dehydrator from my mother and it was about 25 years old and the first time I used it, the darn thing caught fire on me lol. So now I'm saving for a new one, this will be the first thing I do. Now I've never had pineapple syrup, jam or jelly before, but I'm sure looking forward to making some.
@Cloe333 Dehydrated canned peaches are yummy. I think imstillworkin did a video on dehydrating canned peaches and fruit cocktail. Go check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@TheSheChef Just checked at walmart(dot)com and the name brand Dole slices are only $1.38...and you can have them shipped to your house. (Currently, they're out of stock, but they should have it back before long.) I hate doing business with Walmart, but I never get to the city. Their home delivery is a time and money saver for me. Just this week, I ordered a electric pressure cooker, peach/mango salsa, media crema (look it up) and yoohoo (for PrepperA). Shipping was free. Can't beat that!
@katzcradul $1.82 at the one closest to my house. lol. I just bought like 10 pineapples for 10 bucks. Did you miss my pineapple canning video? That's what you get for being so busy! You are awesome as usual! I use media crema! but I'm from CA so i'm familiar with it.
THANK YOU
