I think it's awesome that people are still finding new exploits in Pac-Man, many years later. I've read the Pac-Man Dossier and I'm struck by the amount of fine-tuning and tweaking that must have gone into the game, which seems so simple when it's being played; it's a testament to the old adage that the simplest things are often very complex under the hood.
@petisojavier - In terms of Blinky's chase AI algorithm, yes he is! His code is very simple: head for the position currently occupied by Pac-Man. Each ghost has it's own chase algorithm, and the other 3 ghosts' methods are not as simple/direct as Blinky's. The only times Blinky is not "in love" with Pac-Man is when his logic switches to "scatter" (heads to the upper right corner for a brief period of time), or when he turns blue after Pac-Man eats an energizer.
@rambling123456 - There's a bit more too it than that actually, although I can understand how it may seem that trivial. Normally when you die, the ghosts will not stay trapped in the center and you have to carefully track how many dots you have eaten and time other things correctly to trap the ghosts as shown here. Check the "Home Sweet Home" section of the website mentioned in the description for a better explanation! -J
The recent Windows Phone 7 version of Pac-Man appears to be a direct port, so this bug is included, along with ghost-passing and the blind spot. In fact, one of the achievements in the game refers directly to the ghost-passing glitch!
Did you know? The only ghost in Pac-Man that will chase you is the red ghost. The other ones have different responsibilities! In other terms, you picked the worst ghost to mess with.
im reading the pacman dossier ! but you're right, there are some changes in the play station2 version i've at home. is there any way or site to play like the ORIGINAL PAC MAN ARCADE game ? or where did u buy this version ? thanks and cheers.
What? Clyde is the leader and he is also the most dangerous and destructive of the group. Play Pacman World 2. I think they were fought in order of rank. From lowest to highest rank they are the following
Blinky (orange though he used to be red)
Inky (the blue one)
Pinky (kind of obvious which colored one this is)
Clyde (Red but used to be orange. Was changed because Red shows leadership)
@jmario232 Pac-Man World 2 switched Blinky and Clyde's names for some reason. In the original Pac-Man, Blinky is the aggressive red one and Clyde is the dopey orange one.
should be noted that this is useful for people who want to get as far as possible, but definitely not for people who want to go for points for obvious reasons
@vDizzYx Blinky's (red ghost) AI is designed to always hunt you down. So he's always trailing behing you, like a shadow. Pinky covers more of the maze than any other ghost, and works with Blinky to find ways to corner you. Inky (blue) will normally not go after you, however if you get close to him, he will chase you. And lastly, Clyde (orange) never actually goes after you. He just goes where he wants to go, so you should never worry about him.
@War4Gore - Because, due to the programming, Blinky was designer to *never* stay in the ghost house no matter what therefore making it impossible to trap him there. More info on this bug and what makes it work can be found on my Pac-Man Dossier website which is referenced in this video's description. Cheers! --J
@ChristianBobMiller - Quite correct. This quirky programming error is specific to the original arcade ROMs and does not translate to the multitude of home console versions that have quite a few (albeit subtle) differences in how they behave compared to the original game. Cheers! --J
im young but I wanna become a ms pac mna master...damn yall adults is lucky yall had the best shit...our shit might be better but it doesnt last like things in the mid 90s and earlier
yeah it's just a "show-trick". no player going for a high score would do this - as you pointed out, you must sacrifice a life to make it work. it has no purpose other than to demonstrate the ghost house bug..
the global counter gets disabled if clyde is inside the house when the counter reaches the value of 32 (i.e., Pac-Man has eaten 32 dots since he died). By allowing the timer to exceed 4 seconds, we let clyde out *before* that global counter reaches 32. now that clyde is free, when the counter finally does reach 32, nothing will happen - the counter will not be disabled and ghosts can be 'trapped' after they are eaten (except blinky). hope this helps!
Visit my Pac-Man website (address is in the video info) and look for a section in chapter 2 called 'Home Sweet Home' -- it discusses and describes why this logic error occurs with the ghosts under certain conditions.
Yes as long as the emulator is faithfully utilizing the Pac-Man ROM chips to play the game exactly as it would be in the arcade. MAME is probably the most popular emulator and plays Pac-Man perfectly.
@MuzikJunkyAES - Very true. This video was meant to demonstrate the bug in the original arcade machine code and therefore does not apply to any facsimile version rewritten for home gaming systems. Cheers!
@XSolarPieX: No!, Sue and Tim are very different ghosts, Sue is female, and she is purple in most games (except Ms. pacman)
