I think there was tire smoke before the car hit but could be the car IDK. how were the brakes on the truck? set up properly? there wasn't a thing the truck driver could do beside slow down and lessen the blow. I have been forced over numerous times. Expect it to get worse now that computers are creeping into cars. Surprisingly big trucks can't stop on a dime and even them slowing down can cause extreme damage if they don't come to a complete and utter stop. It takes them a long time to slow down especially depending on how fast the truck was moving. It's extremely sad but it just goes to show if you are feeling the least bit sleepy to pull over and take a nap (in a safe area not on the shoulder). Driving while tired is just like driving when you are drunk if not worse.

Even with 7 chains, the last thing you want is for a 50,000 lb steel coil to roll through the back of the cab). you are right most people believe that a semi truck can stop like a normal car. i could stop a semi with empty trailer in about 65 feet. but that kind of stopping is very hard on the truck. plus if he was loaded there was no way in hell they can stop with good time.
@groundhog2008 Experienced truck drivers avoid swerve maneuvers in order to prevent the truck from going out of control. Trucks have a higher center of gravity and so they are difficult to control. Truckers will only apply the brakes while still driving straight ahead.

@fooloof This is true. Quite often the best thing a trucker can do is just steer straight and brake hard (unless the load dictates otherwise. Even with 7 chains, the last thing you want is for a 50,000 lb steel coil to roll through the back of the cab). Try swerving, and you are looking at a roll-over situation, and on multi-lane roads he may not know whats in his blind spot

you are right most people believe that a semi truck can stop like a normal car. i could stop a semi with empty trailer in about 65 feet. but that kind of stopping is very hard on the truck. plus if he was loaded there was no way in hell they can stop with good time.

@groundhog2008 Experienced truck drivers avoid swerve maneuvers in order to prevent the truck from going out of control. Trucks have a higher center of gravity and so they are difficult to control. Truckers will only apply the brakes while still driving straight ahead.

I always feel for the truckies because i know how they feel, my dads a trucky and he always says that he prays that he will never have that happen to him, 40+ years as a truck driver and no serious/fatal accidents... He has given it up now coz its too dangerous..

excuse me, but my car got totaled in a head on collision and i had to have physical therapy from it. think i'm fucked up for getting into an ACCIDENT? they're called accidents for a reason. i get it if you mean in an accident like this one you'd be fucked up, but you wouldn't be, you'd be dead.
just know that when people who get into crashes survive, they aren't fucked up, they're scared. you would be too, going from "la di da driving isn't scary at all" to "omfg i'm gunna die".

Like I said I was in a head on collision and luckily no one was killed, we were going about 55 in each direction, I broke my ankle, and had a choice to go through physical therapy but I turned it down. I'm pretty sure I was scared and know driving is dangerous. Please get your facts right next time you comment ignorantly like that again, thanks.

@NewtProductions You're right. He didn't do anything wrong, but either way he has to live with the memory of a car coming into his lane of travel and them dying after he hit them. He doesn't have to live with doing something wrong, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
