Cat & Kitten Care : How to Tell Male Kittens From Female Kittens

Is there another way to tell if a cat is a male or female? I don't want to check down there! What if it scratches me??

We had a cat one time we thought was a girl but we had to change its name once we found out it was a boy :D We had named it Little Girl. :D
