Slash had a tough job here given that the Beat it Solo is both a classic, and one of the hardest to get right. Then he makes it even tougher by trying to replace Eddie's solo with one of his own.
He did better than most would in this situation, but anyone comparing Slash and Eddie on this song is being immature and missing the point. OBVIOUSLY Eddie's solo on Beat it is better. But by the same token, I would like to see Eddie play Nightrain like Slash ;)

You don't have to be super fast to achieve that (for e.g. Stairway to Heaven and Freebird solo, both those aren't fast but they are legendary). Same goes for Slash's solos (November Rain outro, Sweet Child O' Mine etc.).

And yeah, EVH solo is nothing hard, but Slash wouldn't play it because he hardly covers anyone's stuff except his idols. But he has used whammy bars before. The guitar you see above was his original guitar, which has a cheaper sound compared to Les Pauls.

u dumasses saying that the solo sucked are jst shitholes. it was improvised one, and u can tell slash isnt used to using a whammy bar and slash is soloing to a song he isnt used to playing. the only song i can think off that comes close to the category as beat it is paradise city.
Atleast he put some rrythem into it. the only other person to do his own version and make it sound good in my opinion. Orianthi's version is just fast 2 handed tapping. which doesnt go with the song AT ALL!!!, Theres playing fast, and then there is playing with feeling.
@FenderBenderXP Well Eddie's original solo was all about the tapping (which Eddie invented btw) and it sounded great so not sure how it 'doesn't go with the song'.. I'd say Slash's performance here doesn't really go with his song, and I normally love his playing (probably more than Eddie's overall) but this just doesn't fit his style imo (and he's obviously out of his comfort zone here)

@gabranthbr well you have Slash fans and Eddie fans. But the BEST thing about Eddie's version is that its not over done. Ands its not the same old blues scale where you are jamming in one spot on the guitar. and in my opinion slash needs to put the les paul back on. tremolos are not his thing. Eddie helped invent the tremolo and he knows how to use it without being annoying (if he's not too wasted) but he supposed to be cleaning up, but we'll all just have to wait and see

Slash improvised a solo on this song, not trying at all to sound like EVH. It wasn't his hottest playing ever I will readily admit, but it's EXTREMELY OBVIOUS that Slash didn't sit down and compose a new solo for a song that he would perform once in his life, don't be fucking ridiculous.

Anyway, If you weren't as retarded, you would already see that I have written like three times, that I do *NOT* think this is a good solo. What I'm saying is, that Slash improvised it, and didn't attempt to sound like the original, so it was a very very very tough job to make it sound good, he didn't make it sound good, but I give him props for trying. Also, I do listen to Guthrie Govan, and he's alright. He's no Satriani.

I personally think slash is better, if you ask most people they'll know about slash especially nowadays but if you ask them about Eddie some will know but most won't...And Slash has a waaaayyyyyy better guitar style while Eddie is just about shredding you can't really sing the riffs or licks he does. DON'T get me wrong they are both awesome guitarist in they're own way, and in the end they will both last forever as ROCK GODS!!!!

@fatescruelhands Nope, it proves my point. Playing fast or complicated shit means nothing. It's the music piece that counts. Slash manages to make better music, legendary riffs and memorable solos. You don't have to be super fast to achieve that (for e.g. Stairway to Heaven and Freebird solo, both those aren't fast but they are legendary). Same goes for Slash's solos (November Rain outro, Sweet Child O' Mine etc.).
Slash plays no random scale and hides nothing. This is just you hating, loser.

And yeah, EVH solo is nothing hard, but Slash wouldn't play it because he hardly covers anyone's stuff except his idols. But he has used whammy bars before. The guitar you see above was his original guitar, which has a cheaper sound compared to Les Pauls.

Atleast he put some rrythem into it. the only other person to do his own version and make it sound good in my opinion. Orianthi's version is just fast 2 handed tapping. which doesnt go with the song AT ALL!!!, Theres playing fast, and then there is playing with feeling.

I'd say Slash's performance here doesn't really go with his song, and I normally love his playing (probably more than Eddie's overall) but this just doesn't fit his style imo (and he's obviously out of his comfort zone here)

@gabranthbr well you have Slash fans and Eddie fans. But the BEST thing about Eddie's version is that its not over done. Ands its not the same old blues scale where you are jamming in one spot on the guitar. and in my opinion slash needs to put the les paul back on. tremolos are not his thing. Eddie helped invent the tremolo and he knows how to use it without being annoying (if he's not too wasted) but he supposed to be cleaning up, but we'll all just have to wait and see

Doesn't matter he can or can't play it. This is Slash. How anybody can expect play him copy of EVH. It's Slash and he is great.
