Amazing video, Love parrot snakes. I have a large arboreal vivarium set up and would like to have a black skinned parrot snake (Leptophis ahaetulla nigromarginatus) in it. There threat displays are amazing.
My frog could kick that snakes butt and why wast a frog and not help it when that frog wont fit down that snakes mouth I know they can stretch there mouths butt it won't eat it-:(
I did not feed the frog to the snake, the snake not only attacked the frog, but also continued to restrain the frog even when one of the field technicians picked it up and put it in a bucket. Also, the snake most certainly ate the entire frog. It took around 40 mins, if I remember correctly, but he finished the frog, and slithered off on his merry way.
@jdcontrol No, I do not recall any vocalization from this frog. It was attacked several times though and managed to escape before being recaptured. So he may have called at some point before he was found. I have heard the distress calls many times but mostly from the Ranids. I am not sure if you are focusing on any group specifically. I actually had a a Lithobates sp. call while being eaten by a Thamnophis. I walked over and I scared the snake off. I guess it works pretty well for them.
Thanks for the quick reply! Im focusing on Hylids, particuarly this species 'T. venulosus' wich is why I found your video so interesting. shame you couldn't witness the entire attack. greetings from Colombia.
@geomango20 Not in anyway dangerous to humans. Recent studies have found that most snakes (and many lizards) have some venom components. These guys are harmless though. They do like to open there mouth very wide and strike at you if you try to grab them.
woow esta increible que suerte que tuvieron para filmar eso porque las letophis mexicanus son bastante timidas, y matan por inoculacion de venenos con sus colmillos traseros, exeñente

Did the frog scream before the snake´s attack? It would help me as im studying amphibian's distress call mechanism.
