I adopted Lakota when she was young. I watched her on line almost every day. I watched her grow into a great and beautiful wolf. I Loved her like she was mine. My birthday is November 11th and in 2008 I went on line a couple of days after my birthday and found out that she had been put down. I was devastated. It hit me hard, like she lived with me. My very first tattoo is of her with her name, photo, dates and R.I.P. I love this video in her memory. Thank you for all the memories. :}
I may have never known Lakota, but for some reason she will always hold a special place in my heart. For 15 1/2 hrs she gave us the privilege of being in her world, teaching us her ways. The ways of the Omega. Thank goodness she had a great staff that cared for her so deeply. They made her last remaining months enjoyable and when it was time to go, she was able to go gently into that great deep sleep. She may be gone but her spirit lives on. In what she taught us. God Bless you Lakota.
Truly a beautiful example of a beautiful breed. May her memory live on, as well as what she's taught the world about wolves, in captivity and the wild.
she was my fav wolf there. i when i went for summer vk all i could think about was how sweet and pretty she was. i cried so hard when i found out she died. RIP my dear Lakota.
Lakota was such a beautiful wolf, she won`t be forgotten from all the people who saw her. Its thanks to her that many people take intrest in wolves since seeing her..
I was so saddened to hear of Lakota's passing. She was such a great girl. I love all the wolves at the center but there was something about Lakota that drew me to her. She was certainly blessed to have had a great 15 1/2 yrs. Her mission now continues elsewhere.
It's always heart-breaking to lose a loved one. Peace be with you all. Thank you for sharing her with the world.
We love you Lakota!! Thanks for the memories. FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS ~ Run free eternally girl! xoxo
R.I.P., Sweet Lakota. I've watched her on the cam for so long, it just won't be the same, not being able to see her everyday. All of you that got to actually see and physically be around her are so blessed to have been a part of her life, and she was blessed to have a full 15 and a half years on earth. She will be deeply missed, even by those of us who never actually got to see her in person. She was so much a part of our lives as well.
my sweet lakota; how i will miss you. we had a bond that was hard to explain, but for which i am ever grateful. you are free now, so greet your siblings with abandonment and be forever wild. there will not be a day that i won't think of you as i gaze at your lovely face. rest, oh sweet one.
I've been going to the center since 1996 to watch and photograph these amazing wolves. I have also participated in every working for wolves program that has been offered, including the last one we had this fall when we increased the size of Lakotas living area. I am so glad I had the chance to be involved in giving her the extra space to roam in that she so greatly deserved. I will miss you Lakota.
Run Free Sweet Girl...with the wind at your back and the sun shining on your face! Thank you for sharing your life with all of us...I am grateful that I was able to see you a couple of times while up in Ely. You will be missed!
May a dear friend of mine rest in peace. Now the siblings can be together again in heaven. Many people around the world will miss this friendly wolf. The retired pack that she was in accepted me as part of the pack and I will miss all three of them.
Dear Sweet Lakota, you will be missed, she was part of my day, checking on her to see what she was up to and what she had packed away from the lab. I shed some tears when I found out, but I know in my heart she is in wolf heaven, howling again and running like the wind. God bless..
A wonderful tribute to a great old lady. May she rest in peace. And thanks to all of you who were lucky enough to know her and take such good care of her. She was a great ambassador for her species and will never be forgotten.
We will miss you Lakota. So many loved you. You can't help but be happy for her 'cuase she's with her brothers and sisters again. I bet she got lonley on occasion alone the enclosure. Rest in Piece.
OMG! I completely forgot that Kiana, who was the first of the littermates to pass away back in 1998, was Lakota's sister, too! Now the four siblings, Kiana, Lucas, MacKenzie and Lakota, are together again and having a ball with Nyssa! =8-)
I only found out tonight, the 12th. Lakota was my favorite wolf. I knew her for seven of her fifteen years, and had always wanted to come and see her. You may know me as Patrick Smith, I visited the Center in June of this year and got a glimpse of her and a ball of her shed fur, which I will keep forever. I cried the hardest I have in a long time when I found out. I will miss Lakota very dearly, and will look for her the second I go to Heaven myself. Farewell to a very close friend. =(
I so loved Lakota - she was an amazing wolf. I'm sure she'll be happy to be reunited with Mackenzie again though. A beautiful, moving, fitting tribute video to a beautiful girl. Rest in peace.
i knew this was going to happen soon...poor baby..im going to miss her..atleast now her and Mack will be together again..she lived a wonderful life and i was privilaged enough to beable to see her at the wolf center..
Gone but never forgotten! Sweet Lakota was my favorite, and I will miss reading her weekly log and watching her on the wolf camera. She is finally back running with her pack members, healthy and happy again.
I know exactly how you feel. First thing I did at work every morning, even before reading email, was to go to her cam, and I kept checking in periodically throughout the day. I miss her terribly but know she is feel of pain and young again with her bothers and sisters.
Lakota was always my favorite so reading the news was heart wrenching. The staff at the Center gave Lakota the best care and the best life she could have ever hoped for. You could tell that she was loved so very deeply and she will be truly missed. Rest in Peace O' Majestic One!!! You have brought much joy to all who visited the Center in person and online and you can now join your siblings, Lucas and MacKenzie. Thank you International Wolf Center Staff...Thank you Lakota! Sue from Ohio.
I am about to cry. This was the saddest video I have ever seen!
R.I.P. Lakota. You will be a loved Omega, forever.

It was such a great honor to have met Lakota in July 2008. We were told she was old but were hoping she could live on for a few more years.
We will always love you Lakota!
