so i got a good pic, i try pasting another pic onto it. the pic that i copied and pasted still shows checkerboard, and when i save the copied pic onto the pasted pic, it shows it as white. please someone help >:(

The magic wand selects the area. then you have to PRESS THE DELETE KEY. the video doesn't explain that step.

What the video didn't say is that after the magic wand had selected an area press the delete key to get the checkerboard background

To those who complained about there being a white background still: When you use the magic wand, you need to press and hold Ctrl and press X to cut out the background, or just go to Cut...then it will show the checkerboard pattern as shown in the video in the background. .-. Then save it...

Well.... It half works.... It works when you are trying to insert into another document such as word. I am trying to make a web page and this does not seems to be helping at all. I want to see the background in between the spaces of the letters or images. All I see is a giant white block taking out the view of my background.

Another tip, if you make the tolerance higher, but to too high you can get rid of almost all of the background. If you put it too high it may get rid of some of the part you want so you have to play with the tolerance to get it just right. Each picture is different depending on the background color so you have to find the perfect tolerance number.

you realise that when you actually save the picture it will automatically get a white or black background... so yeah it looks transparent on the page but there is a white background there.

PNG saves with transparent background right? I haven't tried it yet but you "saved as" PNG so THAT is what save transparent....you did it fast using that "0" setting of the wand! Nice work!!!!
