  • Prude Daphe...Not worth saving.

  • Not bad cartoon show! LOL

  • For anyone who doesn't know yet. This has been officially released on DVD (2 disc set) by Hanna-Barbera.

  • did anyone else notice that this dragon sounds like a tiger?

  • I really liked this cartoon.

  • only just found out there was a cartoon series. from looks of things, I was better off

  • @BonzBoi19 I think the show that you are referring to is called "Dragon Tales." it comes on PBS

  • ...I think all the bad 80s animated shows are only a preview of what we will be watching when we die and go to Hell. And when a demon asks us "Do you like cartoons?"

  • the dragon s deasro

  • Don Bluth disliked this video 10 times

    and I don't blame him

  • no wonder it was shorl lived

  • the Disney-esque animation of the game was WAY better than this saturday morning crap.

  • @buchichu I know. I don't remember seeing much of this show other than the intro. I've downloaded the arcade game on iTunes a couple of days ago, and it's hell better than the TV version. :P

  • @buchichu I think the term is "Don Bluth Illiustration." But yeah, I know what you mean. Btw Don Bluth was the animator pretty much.

  • Daphne has no bathing suit like outfit and Dirk looks really strong and cool?

    What. The. Fuck.

  • shitty animation

  • Comment removed

  • @48 Scrooge McDirk's swimming around in the dragons Moneybin.

  • can anyone remind me of a show that has these dragons who love eating cookies or biscuits and they are green,,its a kids tv cartoon

  • @angeredare Put in jail? You are completely f*cking CORRECT! I agree.

This 'IS' an insult to Don Bluth...they should've got HIM to make the TV version!!!!

That would've severely kicked ass! (especially that of the untalented people who made this garbage) :)

  • I apologise to anyone who likes this series, I mean no harm to your 'memories' (I know how important those are). Just expressing an opinion.

The animation, voices and from what I can see of the story from this short clip are MUCH WORSE than the original video game.

Well obviously...I beleive the video game was absolutely f*cking AWESOMELY FLAWLESS!

Again; sorry to those who disagree, I prefer the video game animations to this.

  • Here's how you know this is an unplausable TV show in 2010. If you're rescuing the princess and both trying to escape for your lives, she'd never ask to be carried out

  • when did Dirk be come Scrooge McDuck? diving into gold coins?! o.O

  • would the flame contacting the sword make it smelt

  • get the key to her cage........

    thats what she said

  • i remember this so cool lol thanx

  • I love how in the 80s cartoons they were experts at stating the obvious and trading clothing/voices at times

  • Im confused was this cartoon based on the game or was the game based on the cartoon?

  • @quicksketch90

Take a running guess. Alot of the traps in this show are based of the game scenes, besides its somewhat hard to make a game 40x better than its cartoon (if it were based upon said cartoon)

  • How come Daphne isn't dressed like a skimpy bimbo? Damn censorship! :(

  • @ScottyMcGeester Damn it Damn it!!!

  • 1:13

    DICKBURN! D:

  • You are not supposed to use this kind of language to criticize something you don't like, for it's hateful and disrespectful.

Constructive and reasonable criticism is highlyt preferred and encouraged.

  • wow, you have sucha boner for dragons

983405 (ever think of putting letters in your name?). because you know all dragons totally had stories becase they were real right? this guy daddy read to many bed time stories to him. what a loser

  • Dirk actually had more personality in this cartoon than he had in the actual video game. Daphne was STILL hot, though!

  • The games were great but the T.V. series were just plain awful! It's ALMOST as bad as the Zelda T.V. series!

  • their is a zelda tv SERIES???!!! how FUCKING STUPID!

  • Yep. Every episode is on youtube. There were only 13 because everyone hated them xD. Check out the Excuse me Princess video for one of the reasons why it was a disaster.

  • I didn't think it was. They also had a TV series for Supermario bros called the super mario bros super show, They had super mario 3, super mario world and captain nintendo.

You never heard of any of those?!

  • EXCUSE ME PRINCESS!

  • This and the Video Power segment titled "The Power Team" are probably the only video game-based American cartoon shows that haven't become YouTube Poop material.

  • I'm sorry but the knight and princess would of been toast and the dragon would of been smarte than that

  • of course, but its a kids show so they are not going to show the dragon being victorious

  • Did he just say "Dragon's teet"? And "the key to my cage" wasn't some kind of sexual inneuendo. I guess I'm thinking of the recent game where the princess had on considerably less.

  • If anyones interested they have some episodes of Dragon's Lair and the complete series of Space Ace on dragonslairfansdotcom

  • THANK GOD THEY MADE IT OUT OK!

  • I miss the game's animations...

  • This cartoon is totally wrong. The arcade version is much better than this cartoon.

  • i remembered seing this cartoon but I also did'nt know that the game came before the cartoon.

  • 01:04 - I broke a heel, Dirk. Carry me!

I love the show, but does anyone think Dirk should have a deeper voice? I think that's my ONLY quibble with the show, albeit a very minor one.

  • The consept and idea for this show is indeed very interesting, but they could have done without making it. We're not really getting anything that the arcade didn't already give us.

  • ...and I just now noticed something. Wouldn't Singe have been a little more formidable if he had had the customary pair of dragon wings? "Oh, dear. It looks like I've gotten myself stuck over this chasm. Oh, well. I guess I'd better start flapping my wings. Then maybe I'll circle back around and begin an aerial strafe on those humans with my fire breath...."

Flying dragons are nasty business. Gary Gygax would have been so proud. :-)

  • I think Singe did okay as is. Many dragons were just beasts bu Singe had a criminal itelligence to him. He doesnt need wings, he has underlings.

  • Like those fuzzy Giddy Goons. I liked those guys. :-)

  • This is based on a video game.

  • Really? I didn't know!

    *cough*sarcasm*cough*

  • Boy did they change Daphne for this cartoon. She used to be so hot.

  • I don't think so.

  • Doesn't Singes eyes look very cat like at 10:00. He's actually cute looking for an evil character. Thats the magic of cartoons.

  • u think Singe would want to leave female humans alone and go pursue a nice female dragon for himself

  • Fuck using the magic sword to kill singe huh? Bullcrap, and her prison didn't explode when he unlocked it, I like that.

  • And isn't it funny how the dragon breath didn't melt the glass bubble yet it DID melt the gold? Man, and to think that chemistry class taught me that glass has a lower melting point than gold does. Maybe it was magical glass. :-)

  • I though glass didn't have melting point, nor a heat of fusion. I thought it just became less viscous.

  • Part of glassblowing involves heating glass into a molten state in a basin or on a slab, then swirling the molten glass onto the tip of a blowpipe.

It looks like I was both right and wrong, though. Pure gold melts at 1945°F (higher if alloyed with metals like iron, lower if alloyed with metals like zinc) but the melting point of glass varies from 1,832°F to 3,632°F, depending on the composition of the glass.

I still say the bubble's magic glass. :-p

  • It's probably magic glass, because when the dragon shot the fire, it ricocheted off the glass.

Besides, there's dragons, damsels in destress, and a brave guy that wants to slay a dragon; wouldn't magic stuff fit in perfectly?

  • Two good points. I hadn't taken the bouncing fireblast into account. And yes, magic glass is probably commonplace in Dirk's world. :-)

  • In the Dragon's Lair comic a cople years ago, Daphe was a very brave, competent girl. When Singe caught her he put her in the glass bubble and explained that it was magic and had the power to turn any woman's mind to mush.

This explained Daphne being a bimbo in the game. So yes, it's definately safe to say the bubble glass IS indeed magic.

Singe is probably magic as well. Molten Gold has got to be VERY hot and painful. A magic sword IS required to kill him after all.

  • Oh, there was a Dragon's Lair comic book? I wonder if the comic book shop over in Tyler has any back issues.... :-?

  • Just a few years ago. From Arcana Comics. Yo can find a few on Ebay.

You might be able to find some CBR scans of the series on Rapidsearch, you will however need a CBR reader

  • I wanna see the other episodes with Singe in them!

  • The fact they 'toned down' Daphne's look was bad enough.

You know when a lesbian calls animation and dialogue 'gay', it's never a good thing.

Dirk was cool because he didn't talk. Fucking duh.

  • TV execs didn't want very attractive female characters in cartoons, so that's why most women in 1980's and early 90's cartoons look so plain.

  • The reason TV execs tone done the sex factor so considerably is they have to follow FCC regulations.

Not to mention the Hell parents and children watchdog groups would give them if they put too much sex in something meant for children to watch

The execs don't really have much choice in the matter.

Truth be told Im glad Daphne was given an actual personality, other than the one note breathy sex kitten bimbo stereotype shown in the game.

  • horrible just horrible

  • Saturday Supercade....wasn't there a Donkey Kong and Pac-Man cartoon waaaaay back in the day? I seem to remember watching those along with Galaxy High and Mighty Or-Bots! Man, am I showing my age here or what!! :o)

  • ci sono tante di quelle vaccate che non commento nulla. Ma aggiungo solo una cosa: in Italia avevano adirittura chiamato Dirk 'Sir John' -___-)

Non c'è limite al cattivo gusto.

  • Why is it that it took me an hour to get that key, but Dirk gets it in 20 seconds? And without visual cues?? (it took me a half-hour just to figure out the 'left' move that's the second-to-last move in the game).

  • Daphne was FUCKING HOT in the game. She's still kinda cute here though.

  • I don't know why you people loved this game! It sucked! Why? Because of the slippery controls and such! Oh, wait that's the home versions, right?

  • That's the home versions. The arcade version kicks ass.

  • Daphne was MUCH hawter in the game.

  • lol crappy

  • when can we see it on film?

  • This cartoon was cool, thanks Dragon Lair for everything , ok. sayonara my friends.

  • Compared to the Zelda TV series this may as well be Citizen Kane.

  • + Thanks Illusionation8 for uploading for others I havent got there yet what a great game & cartoon, The cartoon is cool all the memorable sequences from the game are included in the cartoon + the "what would you do" segments before ads. And Singe is great. My Fave Eps are Tournament of Phantom Knight/ The Legend of the giants name / Mirror, Mirror - I've Got 2 c Space Ace though!

  • I have all episodes of DL on DVD if anyone is interested in trading etc. I am looking for The entire Space Ace cartoon series if anyone can help I would appreciate have been looking for some time by the Dragon's Teeth!

  • Was there a Space Ace series?

  • Yeah, albeit a briefly lived one. It wasn't like the Dragon's Lair cartoon, though; Art and animation aside, Dragon's Lair had those cliffhanger moments where they'd give you some choice like "What should Dirk do? A) Dirk takes the bridge, or B) Dirk swings across the chasm with a rope" before cutting to commercial. Speaking of cliffhangers, here comes that YouTube 500-character limit.

  • And then the show would come back on, and usually the choices they gave you would all end with Dirk getting raped. "You chose A? The bridge collapses and Dirk falls. You chose B? The rope burns up and Dirk falls. Good thing Dirk chose to C) polevault across the chasm". And I'd be like "WHAT? You never gave me that choice!"

Space Ace didn't even have that quasi-interactive stuff. *sigh*

  • Yeah! It was part of the Second Season of Saturday Supercade.

  • I think you mean Space Ace because Dragon's Lair aired on ABC if i remember correctly i was 5 or 6 yrs old at the time they both aired.

  • I am interested in the DVD. I have a DVD of Saturday Supercade which is pretty a pretty rare find. Let me know if you want to do some trading!

  • You mean getting your foot stuck in the gold you melted with a blast of fire that richoched(SP?) off a glass ball and landed at your feet? Well, it's new to me...

  • Who ever down loaded these videos could you please down load all the episodes featuring Singe the dragon. He was such an insparation to my cartoons that I draw myself!

  • Dragon's Lair the arcade game had wonderful animation, funny sounds and of course was a novelty. All this made it possible to overlook the corniness. But the only thing the "tv show" had in common with the arcade game was the corniness.

  • I remember watching these on Saturday mornings. Before each commercial break, you had to decide what Dirk would do. After the break, it showed you what would happened for each choice. Very original stuff!

  • Let me know how much you want for copies of Dragions Lair I really miss these shows alot. These cartoons have great animation!

  • "dirk he can't move"

"and thats why i have to carry you now"

i mean WTF she said "HE"- the dragon "can't move" but that doesn't mean that SHE isnt able to WALK so no need to carry her. she can walk by herself, DIRK

  • Dragons Lair Saturday cartoons = CRAP!

  • Your taste = CRAP!

Still head and shoulders above other video game based shows. Captain N didnt even make any effort to make their characters like they were in their respective games. Not perfect, but certainly one of the best shows of its day. And I wouldnt say that if it weren't true.

  • Doesn't have the don bluth look.

  • Might have something to do with, oh I dont know... Don Bluth not making it? Do ya think?

  • Well I knew that.

  • Thanks for posting this! FUggin Old Schoool!

The princess's voice was god awful btw

  • This is really, really, really, really dumb...

And really, really, really, really innacurate.

  • If you were expecting "accuracy" youre really really dumb. Since WHEN has a cartoon or movie based off a videogame EVER stuck 100% to the original property? Pac-Man got all the ghosts personalities wrong for thei colors and had Mesmaron. Pole Position was completely different from the game. So friggin' what? As far as Saturday morning kidvid back then went DL was pretty top notch. And Daphne had a less revealing outfit due to FAA regulations.

So lighten the Hell up Captain Negative.

  • I have all episodes, even from Space Ace :-)

Few are yet available for download on my website : www (dot) dragonslairfans (dot) com

    Enjoy ;-)

  • Hey! Darth Nuno what a cool website nice work - + you've got Space Ace Episodes do you have the complete series. Lets talk! thanks again for making that website you rule

  • looks cool. remember playing the arcade machine which lookd awesome compared to anything else in the arcade back in mid 80s. Never saw the cartoon till now. There was also a Pacman and also apparently a Pitfall cartoon series.

  • That poor dragon...

  • I want copies please.

  • me too

  • I have all 13 episodes on tape if anyone wants copies.

  • who produced this?

  • Ruby-Spears...A company who was big in the 80's Saturday morning line-up with such classics as Mr.T, Rubik, and Punky Brewster. heh heh.

    They also did Saturday Supercade.

  • @rayblack2004 Who produced this?! Who produced this? Why? If you are planning an assassination attempt to seek vengence for this abysmal animation----

don't worry animation karma has already caught up with the producers because Ruby-Spears animation was shut down in 1996.

    ....thank God. Thank God.

Worst animation studio.......ever. This stuff makes Gene Deitch's MGM animation look good.
