  • We should adopt these downsized efficient little electric vehicles! Along with reducing (Human) overpopulation by 1 % a year, and soon we can say goodby to all our worst modern human suffering(s) in America (such as bad traffic and smog) caused by industry and sprawl to improve steadily, inexpensively with modest annual 1% worldwide population reduction over 10 years. Get efficent, get Birth Control!

  • I wish Nissan would buy them out and create a mass-produceable model.

  • welcome to indonesia

  • I can't believe GM got a bailout check and this company got 0 dollars!!

  • my uncle is friends with the guy who owns the company hes actually helping them build one.

  • Dang, I'd even take this car for my first! :D

  • ILL BUY ONE!!!!!

  • I would buy two, if I couold :-( Man, this thing needs to go into mass, mass production and should be on sale worldwide!

  • Zero Point Energy for the home to charge EV's are the missing link! Apparently a commercially viable one is already in progress in Australia for USD5,000!!! No more electricity bills and gas expenses... FOREVER!!!

  • its a fraud sorry

  • Three things:

    1) This is an interesting vehicle. I like the fully enclosed body (nice styling) and the performance.

    2) This is NOT a ZERO emissions vehicle. Any generation of electricity causes some emissions. I'm not being negative - just reasonable and obvious.

    3) We will not see volumes of these in our lifetimes. too many full sized vehicles out there already. People won't buy these for 40K or even 30K when they can buy a used Porsche or Corvette for 10 grand and still get 20 MPG or better.

  • i disagree the EV-1 was a little more expensive but people loved them to the point of getting arrested for it. if it gets mass produced and people really like them it will drive the price down and gain popularity =D

  • valid points but he trying some new, I can honestly say If it were in my price range it would be perfect for me in NYC we park on the street I know it would so easy in this car. People pay 300-400 a month for parking garages, its not just the gas. Still I think he should have done proof of concept with a gas engine first. I know if he can get the price right down it will own the city streets in no time.

  • this is fast but the Lumeneo Smera looks wayyy nicer!

  • Every time I see the whole car I want to stuff a V8 into it! :D

  • Ahh it costs too much right now!

Maybe 4th generation with AC motors and regen braking, lithium ion/polymer batteries.. now that would be an excellent one to have!

  • Haw much it costs ?

  • And your considered professional opinion is? Your comment is nothing more that dribble. Atleast Rick had taken his idea to a viable, working model.

You have done what? Posted a lame comment. Nicely done. That ought to earn you something I'm sure, but not sure what.

  • I recently rode in this car. I had dinner with Rick Woodbury and spent an evening talking to him about this concept car. Concept car? No, concept yes, concept car...no. His idea isn't to make a wooden Flintstone vehicle. Its a car that will protect a communter during rush hour traffic, get them to work on time, save space on the freeway, and at a cost per mile that so far can't be met by any hybrid or ICE.

I'm going to buy one of these as soon as the price is at his target of $10k each.

  • A $10k target is just fantacy.

  • I like a lot about the idea but the design concept has a fundamental unsolveable problem; it relies on the lead acid keel to be stable which means it can never be made lighter. iirc it weighs a ton! same as a small 4 seater steel car. weight is an enemy of efficiency and therein lies its defeat..

I applaud their efforts and I hope they go with the truth and offer other designs instead. but I know it's a touch pill to swallow

  • 1. The weight is good for safety

    2. You dont need any lighter, did you notice the performance of the little beast?

    3. Efficiency.. Well its probably the most efficient car except for those extremely small solar cell cars they race with.

Its more efficient then Tesla because of weight/power/size and efficiency cant even be mentioned when it comes to cars based on mechanical engines.

Only problem is people dont like small cars, but the few years of oil left will help with that i think..

  • sigh, yes I do need lighter.

I know its performance but I also know what cost it comes at energy and cost wise.

weight is good for safety but only against other overweight vehicles. otherwise low weight is fine and we have to think ahead.

if you reduce the weight to 25% you only need 25% of the energy and power to drive it at low speed. the body can be made more aerodynamic too. because of its dependence on a heavy keel it is fundamentally flawed. deal with it.

  • I dont get you, realy i dont.

You complain about wierd things like weight, without that weight it should be limited to 10mph for safety as it would tip over in every corner otherwice.

And the aerodynamic aspect lets just say this: Its half the size so half the air resistance already.

You demand way to mutch from a tiny company building these things in a garage.

Maybe when/if they get mass production you will get your superexpensive version.

  • you don't get me because you don't want to listen to reason. you don't want to move intellectually.

you are absolutely correct it would fall over if it weighed much less. that is exactly the problem with the design. I'm not asking too much of the company, merely saying it's a fundamentally limited design. better with thin outboard wheels. stable and can be made ultra light thus more efficient and faster, more easily. it's not as narrow but that can't be helped. deal with it

  • Wanted Tesla Car, new or used, also buy options and reservations.

    HELP ME!!!

    Thank you

  • i want this car

  • Hopefully once they can turn a profit they will get the investment backing they need to mass produce it. Even at $30,000 i think these would sell like hotcakes. If for nothing else, a safe vehicle that can do 0-60 in 4 seconds and not guzzle gas.

  • Also it's so expensive because they are not mass produced. Did you listen to the video at all?

  • Far too expensive and far too ugly, you'll never sell in numbers with something looking like that! Why don't these people simply buy a new state of the art small car like the toyota Yaris, strip out the ICE components, then build their latest drive train into it, it would half the cost and give a "normal" looking and far more practical vehicle, I think the Miles will be far, far more succesful than this effort as it's based on a "real" car to start with

  • But you still have the problem of weight. Even the yaris liftback is a heavy car, even though it is an economy car. And it wouldn't Hhalve" the cost because you are still paying for all the stuff you have to strip out plus the cost of doing so. But I understand what you are saying. Looks are subjective, I like the way it looks. For the equivalent of $0.35 cents a gallon I wouldn't care.

  • The weight is a red herring, yes it's heavier, but using Lithium batteries and normal car weight, you can easily get a range of 125+ miles. You then also have mass market appeal with a 4/5 seat car. The majority of the car buying public won't buy something that looks more like a childs toy or a covered in motorbike, re the cost, it's not likely to get mass produced as it's not got mass market appeal, then you have competition like Phoenix and miles who are building ev's from real new cars.

  • This is aimed at a specific market, people who only drive themselves to work. And for looks they are subjective, the Prius and Smart are ugly imo but they sell like crazy because the fuel savings are more important than looks. I have a 5 seat car only because I don't think motorbikes are safe and no decent electric cars were available. I think you are wrong, it does have mass market appeal, just look at the videos of the public's reaction to the Tango on Youtube.

  • I totally agree with you that the Prius and smart are ugly, there are many ugly cars on our roads here in the UK. I only drive myself to work also, but I have a beautiful stylish coupe, it gives me great pleasure to look at as well as drive, what pleasure can you gain staring at this box on wheels?, I agree that looks are subjective and we do need EV's, but not this one, I hope it isn't successful because the world needs more beauty, not uglyness that just happens to be practical..

  • Ugly? Outside my window, here in San Francisco, are 4 Motorcycle slots that could be filled by Tangos. That would be a beautiful sight! I would buy one if I had the money.

  • Oh good grief.

Did they make it **deliberately** ugly? It's as appealing as a chocolate covered meatball.

And surprise surprise (quick check of the Tango website), they're STILL not actually selling it.

Hmmm. Let me see if this seems as odd to you as it does to me:

Aptera: not quite yet, be patient...

Tesla: not quite yet, be patient...

Miles: not quite yet, be patient...

Tango: not quite yet, be patient...

GM Volt: not quite yet, be patient...

    Hmmm...

  • You're as appealing as a meatball and I can't even see you.

  • Who will ever buy it? Would you buy it?

I mean, it's ugly. Until someone invents a cheap electric car with some sex appeal, it won't sell.

Look at the sucess the Tesla Roadster has been already... mind you, that costs loads.

  • I would buy it for <$20k, but not $108k. But I don't care about what it looks like. I would wave to you as I drive past you pumping $5 gas in your pretty car.

  • Carbon Nanotube Ultracapacitors are the future. 300,000 cycle life and a power density 3 orders of magnitude higher than batteries.

  • If that is true.. it would be the holy grail dude.. You know. The only limit to electric vehicles is it's battery. SO RESEARCH it.. :P MORE MORE MORE

  • when can we retro fit cars with electric wheel motors so we can all have a hybrid four wheel drive two internal combust and two electric the batteries go on the roof or in the trunk.

  • Yum nano-phosphates.

    ....

    Looks... unstable.

  • This car is GOING to go to production in 2-3 years. A lesser model will be produced for around $20K and probably with nano-phosphate batteries which would increase mileage and power. Go visit commutercars dot com to find out more about this car. I love it.

  • is that a golf car???

  • abc . com

  • nice video at abc dot com

  • nice video

  • nice video

  • This car is like a Peel P50 for the 21st century.

  • where i can find one of that?!

  • What annoy me is the SPORT, I mean yeah in places like São Paulo and Tokyo this car would help but please SPORT?

Any ways it still too big...if you think that I'm crazy search for Peel P50.

  • I would love to have one of these. But I wouldn't pay more than $8,000.

  • Micro cars are widely seen as unsafe, and I don't see anything here to show me that this isn't the case here. I'm not sure these can be seen by SUV's either.

  • I bet it is safer than a motorcycle. SUV's are hard to see by Mack trucks. Should we all be driving Mack trucks to be safe?

  • Mickwiser: No, we shouldn't drive Mack Trucks, nor SUVs. But perhaps microcars aren't exactly the answer, either.

  • Well, true, microcars aren't the answer for everyone. But I think they are the answer for many people. I really hope they can sell them cheaply someday - much of that depends on the public accepting them. I for one embrace their effort and I hope I can buy one someday.

  • I would love to see this car making a high speed corner , it's supposed to be "sport" right?

0-60 in 4s , yeah possible , but in this rate in how many seconds the batterys will go dead?

  • Well if you watched the video you would have seen it do a high speed corner. It was fine and then a regular car took the same corner and almost tipped over. He also said the tipping point is the same as a Porche. All the batteries/weight is at the bottom - very low center of gravity, very stable.

He said the batteries would go 80 miles. I don't know how many seconds that is.

  • The grip must also be wonderful with all that width...

The brakes also seen just HUGE!!!

And you call that a corner? do you ever drive trough a narrow mountain road or in a track?

    I thought not...

  • I don't think it is made for mountain driving, keep your SUV or Jeep for that. Also it isn't a sports car either, it is for commuting in congested cities. It just happens to be quicker than a Porche and can take corners at the same speed as a Porche, but it isn't made for racing either.

  • I prefer, my old, bold and SMALL Mazda Miata...

  • SUV for maountain roads...

    Now it's official...

    FANBOY ALERT!!!MW is a fanboy!!!

  • I don't know what a Fanboy is, but I am certainly a fan of electric cars. And I'm a fan of businesses trying to get alternative energy going.

  • Don`t know what you`re (a Fnaboy) = denial = fail. Well I respect that they want to make an eletric 'sport" car but please don`t don`t understand shit of what makes a sports car a sports cars. If i want an electric sports cars I would buy a Tesla Roadster not this square failmobile.

  • It seems you are a little obsessed with the word "sport". Hmmm? Sounds like a Fanboy to me. Oh and that's Fanboy, NOT Fnaboy: Pull your head out of your ass if you are going to try to put someone down.

  • Well you probaly isn`t an entusiast. But if you want to become one I suggest sportscarforums, great site for other entusiasts in sports cars, maybe you can get some knowledge about the subject. And oh tuff boy you`re alredy getting pissed off I think that it`s you that is running low in argumments. But lets pretend that you understand a little about cars, tell me in details why this car would be superior to a Porsche 911 or cayman or even a tesla Roadster?

  • Yes you are right, I have run out of arguments. All I can say is what I already said: It would be great transportation in big cities because: It doesn't use gas; You can get thru gridlocked traffic by splitting lanes like a motorcycle but you are inside.

Better than Porsche 911 because it doesn't use gas and is just as fast.

Better than the Tesla because it can split lanes.

  • I agree, the thing is ugly and not sporty. I think it would still be fun to drive though. I don't care about "sports" cars, I care about cheap transportation. I think if most cars were replaced with something like the Tango then it would help solve the energy crisis and traffic jams (here in the US).

It would at least solve my own personal energy crisis and traffic jams if it wasn't so expensive to buy.

  • too bad all of our roads are designed to accomodate "regular" sized cars. How efficient is it realy when compared to a hybrid with 4 passengers vs. 4 tangos? nice try.

  • how many hybrids are driven with 4 passengers? If you look at it that way, 7 passengers in a gas guzzling suv is much more efficient than a single hybrid, & you know how often that occurs. & doesn't the tango seat 2, not 1? It doesn't matter if roads are designed to accomodate regular sized cars, the tango does even better in these roads, so I don't get your comment.

  • I just don't think it dosn't make much market sence in the US. In Europe and places where the roads are more narrow and the're are alot of smallish cars and mopeds etc. it would be a good choice (to me). I thought it only seated one (didn't check, just didn't look like it to me). So, I guess 2 people would get crushed by a "normal" sized car. It's out of proportion on our roads.

  • Motorcycles, Toyota Yaris, etc., are "out of proportion" to our roads too.

  • A supreme effort turning ideas into reality. My best wishes with your future endeavors. If I had a model here in Sydney, I'd back myself to sell a minimum of two per week.

  • Could you sell them at $108k each?

I agree, this is a supreme effort. I really hope they are successful!

  • No,I'd probably only be able to get $107,995.00. Wives of wealthy industrialists would be my primary target - they adore acquiring commodities that are unique.

  • I think they offer a "dealership" program and they would probably ship to Australia. So you can do it right now. Go for it! I would if I could afford it.

  • A half width vehicle is the only sise that will really cut congestion. Are people enjoying sitting in traffic and blowing money out the exhaust? With enough cars like this on the road we greatly reduce carbon emissions. Just a little more Global heat and we're done. Here is somthing we can do with out giving up driving. I love driving. The world reset it's mindset quickly with florocarbons and the ozone layer. Why is America not jumping all over this baby?

  • Why is America not jumping all over this baby? Because we are a bunch of idiots, that love giant, powerful, noisy cars that look "normal". We Americans don't deserve to have gas this cheap! We should be paying $10/gal. In fact, the government should tax the crap out of gas to force people to be economical.

  • i wonder if these things tip like cows

  • Getting more info... Different from the Tesla -the Tango is not an AC system, has motor with brushes. Has 2,000 lbs of batteries (twice that of the Tesla); 3,000 lbs overall is a stable ride. Also seating position is the height of a standard car.

  • I think I read where the Tango is also faster than the Tesla, but I can't say for sure.

  • Awesome car! 0-60 in 4 seconds, goes to 130mph. The width of a motorcycle. It looks like a Scion xB - or half of one, and maybe shorter too. Very cool! Nascar rollcage. 8,000hp 1,000 torque $85,000 each. If I could afford a Corvette, I'd get this instead in a heartbeat.

  • Doomed from the start. You'll never market a car that looks so strange. To be successful, the car needs to look like a standard car, or it won't sell. Ignore the market and suffer the consequences. Additionally, the cost must be reasonable. Unless the big manufacturers get onboard, the price of these types of cars will be well out of the range of the middle class consumer.

  • If you are right it is a condemnation of our whole culture and it's inability to ajust. Roads are clogged with only an average 1.2 drivers a car in my city. I'm reading hard science pointing to global warming and approaching tipping points beyond which our civilizations cannot survive. Oh well, a car needs to look normal.

  • I'm in the same boat i'd buy one tommorow if it weren't as much as my house.I like Drivin's comment, Google you should get into the car bussiness.

  • cool golf cart

  • Nice one! This could be the Google Car 101. $25K price once producing 3000/year, and $19K when mass producing it.

  • Desde Argentina, la Compañía EV TANGO saluda a los creadores de esta maravilla. Muchos exitos!

    Gracias

  • I want to be able to put my surfboard on the roof and drive it to the shore.

  • Video of the elusive Tango in the wild. Excellent! Thanks Google, I'll take one. Unfortunately, I fall into that category of "want one but can't afford one". Luckily, Google has oodles of cash....hint hint.
