lol vinegar does not truely dissolve papyrus such as in the da vinci code... although with the right chemicals i am positive you could achieve similar effects.

Hey, I heard that there's a guy who makes the cryptex's with self destruct mechanisms, (aka the vials of acidic liquids) how would one make one?

I think in the inner tube where the scroll of paper sits you could put a spike beside a thin glass container (the glass is thin, not the container) full of an acidic liquid and when sudden force is applied to the cryptex, it could break.

Im not sure how it's actually dont, that's just how i would do it.

I think when you try to pull it apart, it pulls back a spiked hammer using a strip of metal connected to the cap that pops off when unlocked properly, so if by force the cap slips off; the hammer is pulled back and smashes the vial open. Just my guess.

great vid mate. there is one thing that is unclear to me though. How do all the wooden insides stay together? according to the diagram on 18s they should all just fall off, shouldn't they?

it is a very old system, china used it 4000 years ago. just reading a lot, want to know the system of things.. and thanks!
