This is a band put together for Louis in Europe. This was shot in Copenhagen in 1933. He didn't take his band with him because he was on the lamb from mobsters in Chicago and New York!
Yes. However contrary to the claim that the band was all "European Africans", I believe Armstrong's 1933 European band included a number of African American musicians who were already on the Continent, including the DuConge brothers from New Orleans.
Actually it was very rare to see interracial bands preform LIVE in the early 30's. The mid-late 30's was another story of course. All of these musicians are European African.
All of these musicians are European. I cant remember from where though. You are absolutley right however. Most people tend to forget that parts of Europe were also racist during this time. I think every musician of every race had respect for him. Not only that but the fact that they tried to imitate him was even a greater sign of respect.
What makes you think Louie didn't travel with his own band? P.S. I highly doubt he could find a band of black Eurpeans to play with him . If you have ther proof that they are from Europe then get back.
Interested to read your posts. I can tell you that the guy to the left of Louis, playing the sax and wearing glasses is called Henry Tyree from London, England (then Manchester) How do I know this?? He was my Grandad!!
I am a big fan of Louis, but my favourite version of this song is Artie Shaw's.

@infrogmation
you're right. Lil Hardin, his wife, had her own black band as well as Blanche Calloway and Lovie Austin.

@arnefogel --I'm not sure he was on the lamb; perhaps he was on the goat or on the camel. Surely you meant to type "on the lam?"

It was not uncommon to see interracial jazz bands in the 1930's. Oh, the band members
in the video are all black...look again
