  • Q = default tool W = translate (move) tool E = rotate tool R = scale tool T = universal manipulator tool Y = last tool used G = last action performed 4 = wireframe mode (smooth shading off) 5 = smooth shading on 6 = smooth shading with textures 7 = lights (if not lights are present, objects will become silhouettes; great for checking character design)
  • i imported to Maya a sculpture from Zbrush as an OBJ and then whenever i tried to take it to Second Life the texture that came out as BMP was pitch black and didnt work while the ones that i made in Maya itself came out rainbow color and worked , anyone knows why ?

i would appreciate any help possible , thank you ...

  • @Seiferzed

I guess you are using the old exporter?

  • maya uses NURBS and poly modeling and you should be using NURBS, sculpties work on UV maps (RGB=XYZ) and the rules of NURBS are just that, sculpie paint uses NURBS. the result you get at the end of part two is because of this problem, even I watched its video as a learner and you confused me because you don't know what you're doing, i've been sculpting for about a month now and know twice as much as you, so please do something about this before you confuse more people get confused

  • This guy is using outodesk maya, maya is not a good program to use for sculpts the UV's change when you convert an object to sculpt map. I have bin working with maya for over 8 years now, its not good for sculpts for SL.

To answer a another question you don't need a pluggin to convert maya materials to textures. Its on top of the hyper shade window, select object/ select material/ go to edit/ convert to file texture, that's all you need.

If you do use maya use sculpty paint to optimize the sculpt

  • @Gamthalion It has been EXACTLY a year since I posted this :) and yes, I have been using sculpty paint for the past half a year. It is a very good program ^^ much better designed for Second Life sculpties compared to Maya.

  • So nice to see some people keep track of there posts. thank you for your reply.

I was pulled back in to SL about 2 weeks ago kinda why i looked at the tutorials again looking for something new. I still use autodesk maya and sculpty paint to do my thing but it seems that soon we can upload full obj meshes like in the beta sim realxtend.

I gues for peole like you and me the fun really starts. maybe cya in SL It would be a pleasure.

  • what program are you useing ? =)

  • use your voice if you want use to watch your tutorial

  • @danny3man I watched some of one of your videos. You sound British, so maybe that is why you said "use" instead of "us", but I don't think it was because of British context...

I made this tutorial last year. I don't even use Maya anymore, rather Z-Brush. I am sorry that you were disappointed in my video. *insert fake smile* :D

  • help me out here, how do i get the plugin to bake to sl textures?

  • i have maya 2009 and i dont know how to set the points, can you help?

  • @ 9461160: In Maya 2008/9 they are not called points (for polygons), but they are called subdivision height and width. A higher number makes more divisions down the shape. If you want to get onto the tool that lets you change them, you need to be on the tool options menu. It is complicated to explain in words, but you can go to 'create' (in the menu bar at the top) - polygons - sphere and click the little shape to the right of the text. It'll let you change them in there.

    Hope this helps :)
