@rts4761 - Oh, NOW you want to go revisionist and start talking about the video? No shit it's about hollywood discrimination, I've never denied that. But since you can't hold your own in a debate you're gonna keep trying to change subject until you can find one that I've already stipulated?
Liberalism is dying in America? LOL! That's a good one. Keep repeating that after Obama gets re-elected. Maybe your comically misdirected anger can keep you warm. Or have a doobie and just chill out, loser.
@splooie02 - And I'm supposed to care WHY exactly? It's not my problem if you can't figure out how to navigate YT. The vast majority of these comments were responses to those who directed a comment to me, just like what you've done here.
@rts4761 - Problem is that you can't argue period. Here's a clue, try using FACTS in your arguments and you might finally win one...oh, wait...You can't cuz using facts lead to a sick mind, huh? It's easier to blame everyone else, isn't it? Go smoke a bowl, that'll make ya feel better while you blame liberals for your lot in life.
@rts4761 - Pal, all anyone needs to do is look at your comments compared to mine and they'll know who's smarter, but then any 12 year old with a middle school diploma would do as well compared to you. Arrogant? Sure. Smarter? There's no question. Common and dull describes you perfectly.
Now be sure to keep scream about how Obama is a criminal with a fake BC, while blaming liberals for globalization, tax cuts and why you can't find work.
@rts4761 - I always enjoy hearing you clowns make all kinds of spurious claims against Obama without a shred of evidence. You clowns are the same ones who say 9/11 was an inside job, WTC 9 was detonated, JFK was killed by every except Oswald, We never landed on the moon, FEMA has Prison Camps..proves you're all batshit crazy.
The truth is you're far more likely to be living on the street by 2012 than Obama ever seeing the insides of a jail cell . Hey, maybe a tax cut would help ya, ya halfwit.
@rts4761 No worse than alcohol is an understatement, it is completely toxin free unlike that worst chemical a human can ever think of consuming. I'd rather see people taking LSD than drink booze. The PC attitides are in two camps, showing up the other (you want to go there, we'll go this way) and going overboard in niceyness.
@rts4761 Good for you, but are you the one I replied to on a sock puppet channel? Liberals did not encourage these laws that removed the liberties of every citizen. Most of the ConServers will demand and impose a 'sober' life because they hate the people that use other than alcohol for an intoxicant. It really seems like they do this out of jealousy for happy people.
@rts4761 - LOL!, Don't blame me because you have the intellectual capacity of a housefly. You should get help for your scat obsession...what IS IT with you conservatives?
@rts4761 - Christ Skippy, WHAT do you think "TREASURY HOLDINGS" are? Look up the term, they include bond, securities AND T-BILLS
STUPENDOUS is the only term that can describe the immensity of your stupidity. I'm sure Arizona State University and Pepperdine's Graziadio Business School would laugh at the idea of being referred to as liberal indoctrination centers. Since you barely earned a GED (Good Enough Diploma) , you have little room to malign people who've actually obtained an education.
(AP) May 16, 2011 "China, the biggest buyer of U.S. securities, trimmed its holdings for a fifth straight month. The Treasury Department said Monday that China cut its holdings by $9.2 billion to $1.14 trillion."
Yeah, they've REALLY dumped 97% of their holdings over the past two weeks. Math nor economics were your best subjects, were they? China is reducing holdings, not dumping. Please stop, you only embarrass yourself with every subsequent post.
@rts4761 - Wow, 30 minutes and that's your BEST effort? Loser.
I never said how many guns I own Cletus. That's my business, not yours, but what's with the fascination with rectums? Conservatives must have some seriously fucked up toilet training.
It's you clowns who have a propensity for shooting yourselves. You've got the right to own weapons, too bad you never taken the time to learn how to use them. You're the original "Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight." Typical Darwin award winners...
@rts4761 - Be sure you ramp up the partisan rhetoric and fear-mongering big time so the election is little bit closer. That shit sells well to the other pick-up driving, ball cap wearing half-wits like you who hate everyone. But get used to Obama being around for another 4 years.
Or maybe you can go to school and get a degree (or at least a trade school) instead of blaming everyone and everything for your own failures.
@rts4761 - ooooh, what? You gonna start cryin? Please, people like you are little more than cannon fodder for all the critical thinking you do. And as far as a civil war goes, don't believe for a minute that no liberal owns a gun or two...
@rts4761 - Riiiiight...in other words ZERO credibility. Look up logical fallacies for an in-depth explanation of your errors in critical thinking. Or file it under "Just 'cause you say it with conviction, it don't mean shit to me." Either one, doesn't matter
@rts4761 - LOL, Oh, now, An American company or government has NEVER lied, cheated or stolen. Seriously, that's your response, That's the best you got? **sigh**
@rts4761 - Obviously you aren't reading my comments or comprehension isn't your strength. Yes, I've agreed that China has benefited. It's debatable how many Americans have benefited. But my solution isn't the status quo, but it's not cutting off our nose despite our face and making things even worse. Try reading my past remarks, I'm not gonna bother retyping them.
poor baby...him discriminated against cuz he white. So am I. College education anyone? It's not a magic bullet, but it's sure better at opening doors than crying about reverse discrimination, after all., it's easier to point-fingers and find blame than to study, get a degree or two and find a way to succeed. Isn't this what conservatives are always telling us? til they have to put up or shut up.
@rts4761 - Oh, of course. When you've been confronted with statistical evidence, simply ignore it and you'll win every debate. I hate to break it you, but comments like that are what leads to losing all credibility. Sorry, but just because "you say so" doesn't mean shit.
@rts4761 - I'm for increased drilling and so is the Obama administration. In fact, in 2010 the Bureau of Land Management issued 4,090 drilling permits in fiscal 2010, but oil and gas operators drilled just 1,480 new wells, using only 36% of permits issued. Why is that? Once again, you conservatives hear the sizzle and never bother to look for the steak. And you've still failed to provide ANY proof there's been 'a tidal wave of crime' brought to the US, even when I've shown rates have fallen.
@rts4761 - Yes, we have massive trade deficits with China, China has benefited greatly. And?
Very few Americans have, [benefited] the overwhelming majority [have] not. Look out there, you're starting to sound like a Communist or at minimum, a Socialist.
Sorry, but cutting OFF trade isn't a rational solution, it would only make things worse and it wouldn't create lasting jobs in America.
@rts4761 - And the way you're suggesting we handle it is to figuratively shoot ourselves in the head. The idea that we can unilaterally effect the changes you specify is naive and unrealistic. Unless of course you believe it can be accomplished by force...see where that gets ya.
@rts4761 - There's no evidence, only innuendo, conjecture and distortions. The issue IS resolved except for the whining. No serious politician will dare address it unless he wishes to kill any chances he has But as I've said before, nothing Obama could ever do will satisfy the hard-core conspiracy theorists on this issue.
@rts4761 - We import 12% of our oil from Mexico and they're our 2nd largest export customer. How many jobs you wanna kill?
As for crime, I hate to break it to you but crime in the US is at 40 year lows. In the southwest US it's fallen by nearly 6% from 2009. In fact the area that has seen the smallest decrease is the Northeast. My point is this, you need to stop listening to the right-wing talking heads and do some research on your own, you seem to have a number of serious misconceptions.
@rts4761 - We can debate the effects forever, but globalization was inevitable as a byproduct of progress and our desire to spread democracy and capitalism around the globe. Now we want to complain about the effects? Nonsense. Then you demagogue to assign blame. You know what's truly ironic? What you're suggesting is anathema to free-market capitalists something you'd expect form those commie and union loving liberals you conservatives you hate. Maybe you're not as conservative as you thought.
@rts4761 - Nope, sorry. Trump is little more than a court jester. As he did was raise the rhetoric, not offer any special insights. As for the BC, Obama called his bluff and in the end, people who want to believe otherwise always will think he's lying. Conspiracy theorists will never allow any amount of evidence to alter their beliefs. And if Trump had any real proof (like he said his investigators did), he would have released it. Trump was only looking for publicity.
@rts4761 - But you railing about 'commies' is laughable. This has far less to do with political ideology than pure economics. And now you're complaining about them beating us at our own game. Where's your cry about enemies of freedom when we and other so-called freedom-loving nations colonized other nations, stole land, resources and monopolized industries? All I'm saying is that whining about it does no good. We need to continue to do is us strategic tariffs on severely undervalued imports.
@rts4761 - Yes, it definitely puts all of China's trading partners at a disadvantage, especially the US. But until the Chinese are pressured to allow their currency to float, there's little hope of a reemergence of manufacturing in the US. It'll happen eventually, for if they don't, it lead to massive inflation in China. In order to keep the the US at a disadvantage, China must hold the excess US currency which continues to lose value and faster if they dump, thereby hurting their own economy.
I like how these interviews don't just say, "All these guys are liberal idiots" but it shows others working in the field agreeing with the idea that there is a bias. I hope someday that we get to hear the entire interviews of all these people.
@rts4761 - You still aren't seeing the total picture. Americans will NOT significantly higher prices just for "Made in America", especially if they come at a significant premium. And while not all conditions are on par with US factories, it's hardly a system of slave labor. I've seen many factories first hand and they've made great strides and Chinese workers have also seen substantial wage increases. The major issue now is China's currency manipulation.
@broadjumper1 You are a liar. Working conditions in a great many of china's factories are a half step above per se slavery. US companies profit mightily from keeping labor and shipping costs as close as possible to zero and then selling the goods in America for as much as they can get. Anyone who knowingly profits from this system is sub-human slime.
@amcent2 - No, I'm NOT lying, but what's quite evident is that you don't know a damn thing about them. I didn't say ALL of China's factories are wonderful, some are downright awful. But I've toured several in China like Dongguan, Shanghai, and Ningbo, among others, and while they're not luxury resorts, they're anything but slavery. Yes, companies profit from lower labor costs, you act like that's a secret..but feel free to spreading your self-righteous ignorance
@rts4761 - What you're not taking into account is that the WTO has a great deal of power and influence on international trade, especially trade dispute. A 25% across the board tariff would go over like a lead balloon and would certainly have a negative effect on the US economy and our exports to China who's now our 3rd LARGEST customer aside behind Canada and Mexico with FAR greater growth potential.
The idea that America companies should restart manufacturing is almost absurd. Who would we sell to? We would be at such a competitive disadvantage that companies would soon go under. Americans couldn't consume enough (let alone pay the price difference) to make it a worthwhile proposition. But if you can figure out how to run an American factory anywhere near as cost effectively as a foreign factory, be sure to let us know.
@rts4761 - No, they won't elect him. Especially after he basically claimed that all drugs and prostitution should be legalized. That doesn't sell to Middle-America or among religious conservatives.
@rts4761 - You have a habit of putting words into my mouth. I never claimed we'll ever have "unfettered access to their markets", but you're kidding yourself if you don't believe that American corporations don't salivate over growing access to the worlds LARGEST market of 1.3 Billion people. We exported $92 BILLION worth of goods to China last year a 32% increase over '09. Yes, they abuse the relationship but it's NOT going away. Our best hope is to continue to pressure them into reforms.
@rts4761 - And you believe that's gonna change? Wake up, we're in a global economy and labor costs are the FIRST thing all companies look to reduced to improve bottom lines. I'm not saying we can never rebuild some level of manufacturing in this country, but the industrial age in the nation has PASSED. The reason we allow these imports is because we need access to THEIR markets. BTW, maybe you haven't heard but the cold war is over. Even the 'commies' embraced capitalism.
@rts4761 - It's not as early as you believe. In most cases the party challenging the incumbent at least has a good idea who the main candidates will be It's only and right now there's immense dissatisfaction with those who've thrown in already. I never claimed Obama couldn't be beaten, but certainly not buy the group of misfits who've announced or might announce shortly. Oh, and see if you can amp up the rhetoric a bit more, the Republicans will need lotsa fear-mongering to have a shot at it.
@rts4761 - In truth, it wasn't anyone's idea, just the nature of labor based economies. "Labor dollars go where labor cost are low." But your point is still a valid one. The last thing we should be doing is encouraging companies to offshore labor with tax breaks and other incentives.
@rts4761 - I haven't voted for a Republican Presidential candidate since Bush the Elder. And while I didn't vote for McCain in 2008, I WOULD have voted for him in 2000 if he had won [and should have] the nomination. Clinton deserved a second term and in fact was the better of his two, Lewinsky scandal notwithstanding.
@rts4761 - Yes, that IS the real question. At least you're showing that you've put some real thought into the matter. But you've also hit the nail on the head in that it seems that the right will fight for the unborn, but it increasingly seems that they want nothing to do with them afterward...the ol "Get a JOB" mentality comes out.
@rts4761 - Ah, right. He was only elected twice, so I gather you didn't vote for him either time. And while I'm hardly thrilled with Obama's performance to date, I shudder to think what a McCain [strong fundamentals] Palin administration might have wrought upon this country's economy. I took would like to see us out of our wars, the sooner the better.
@rts4761 - And where did I claim differently? Truth be told, like you, I abhor abortion, especially those as a result of lack of planning. But that doesn't mean I believe that politicians have the legal or moral authority to outlaw the procedure. This is clearly not the answer, especially when there's NO exclusions for situations like rape, incest, endangerment of the mother's health.
@rts4761 - LOL! You mean the three wars that you conveniently attribute to Obama, but two of which were initiated but Republican administrations? I thought so.
And that a military is necessary isn't relevant to your specious argument. According to you and TJ, "to compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical"
You boys just can't stop talking out both sides of your mouths, can you?
@rts4761 - liberal totalitarians? LOL...Yes, we're equality Nazis! Wow, dumb as a box of rocks. In other words, let's go back to the good ol' days when things were better and blacks knew their place, women stayed in the home, and Mexicans stayed on the farm.
Yeah, you're all about individual rights and freedoms...'til it costs you something.
@rts4761 - Dude...do you JUST NOT GET IT? What does this have to with abortion rights? Are you trying to claim that because woman are favored in child custody that men should have the authority to dictate what they do reproductively?
Most states recognize "no-fault' divorces and many states are community property states. But if you feel you really have that much to lose, get a pre-nup or a post-nup. They're both legally recognized and enforceable in spite of beliefs to the contrary.
@rts4761 - Only to you. Once again, you've provide little more than a singular scenario where women are the abusers and men are the victims yet claim it's widespread behavior. Given the history of women in this nation, that dog don't hunt. It appears you're threatened by any advances in equality that women have gained including control of their own reproductive abilities. Or are you just afraid of women in general?
@rts4761 - Who's accusing them of a crime? Stop the distortions, I was addressing BIAS. As for the study, look it up. It's called "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition." But since it wasn't conducted by Bob Jones U, I'm sure you'll dismiss the findings no matter how distinguished the academics.
I especially enjoyed following: All of them [Conservatives] "preach[ed] a return to an idealized past and condoned inequality"..so much for conservative ideals of the founding fathers.
@rts4761 - And while I agree that there's no easy solution to the abortion question, your statement can't be proved and it's basically a non sequitur. Whether or not these things happen have little to no bearing on abortion rights.
@rts4761 - Of course I have, just like I considered the source of the statement you made without any corroborating proof.. But the point is that even if this study was funded by the Koch Bros., you'd trot out claims of bias.
@rts4761 - Dude, you're a clown...there's no such thing as left-wing authoritarianism. As for liberalism being a mental disorder, studies have concluded the exact opposite. "A 2003 study funded by the US government has concluded that conservatism can be explained psychologically as a set of neuroses rooted in "fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity".
Simply put: FEAR-ANGER-DISTORTIONS-HATE-LABELS. Enjoy living in your black & white world, the rest see shades of grey.
@rts4761 "women routinely do these things using their own bodies as a weapon against the husband"
Seriously, what planet are you from? First off, even when married a wife does NOT become property. Secondly, if a couple can't agree upon whether they want or don't want children one has to wonder why they married in the first place. Yeah, poor 'ol men...mean evil women are ALWAYS victimizing us by forcing us to have children or through abortions...
Aw jeez. This jibbering retard again. You'd think he would have given up after the ASS-RAPE he got on The Daily Show a few years ago.
And, so what if a show has a liberal theme or not? Sounds to me like the rightie-tighties are jealous because their shows are stupid and suck while the liberals keep making all the hit shows.
Here's a News Flash: People don't want shows with conservative themes. They're stupid, jingoistic, insulting to anyone with an active brain stem, and just plain SUCK.
@TheHomelandDefender You have a problem with drug dealing take it up with Oliver North. The fact is prohibition is the crime against us all as the constitution clearly states that ALL intoxicants will eventually be over the counter products just as it was over 100 years ago. It is the ConServers that love to take freedoms away. You need to get a permission slip to speak in public now,,, you think a liberal did that!
@rts4761 agreed that not everything on TV is great.. probably the wrong adjective there... but the really creative stuff I have a hard time believing is written by Republicans. I can only imagine what conservative TV would look like. JAG, NCIS and the 700 Club on prime time every night. Sounds great.
It's because Republicans are not creative. They are unemotional and feel no compassion for others. You have to have a free, open, creative mind to make something wonderful on TV. Republicans just don't have those skills because of their lack of feeling and openness.
@serendippitydoo That is something a liberal would say with a straight face. With no awareness how bigoted and false to fact it is. And then pat himself on the back for his sensitivity and tolerance and sophistication.
@serendippitydoo Remember the EPIC FAIL they had when they tried to make a conservative version of The Daily Show on Fox News? That is proof that conservatives are suited for creativity.
How the hell is Hollywood liberal? It's racist as hell (black people dying in movies and roles being whitewashed) It worships capitalism (The studios are owned by corporate bosses who just want to make money) There's a strict censoring system (Rating system, rated PG-13, R, etc) And there's a strict class system, (A few studio executives control everything, followed by major producers, the directors, writers, actors and actresses r all slaves who really don't hav personal control ovr wat 2 do)
This whole series is un-profound. The real question is Why is it leftist? and How did it become so? Throughout history, artistic communities have been liberal-thinking.
All this Liberalistic spew. Why do you liberals preach tolerance when you're the most untolerant group? If I don't agree with you I am a racist, bigot, jew hater, and everything else horrible. Guess what? Liberalism in it's current form has only existed for a few decades. Conservative thinking is what this country was founded on.
@mezz077 '- "Conservative thinking is what this country was founded "
Riiiight..I guess it's just a coincidence that "Liberty" and "Liberal" have the same etymology. Your idea of what "Liberalism" is nothing more than a pejorative term and hardly worth serious consideration.
@broadjumper1 Actually, it is just a coincidence. Today liberty has more in common with libertarianism than modern liberalism does. I would argue that liberals are just as wedded to their dogma as any fundamentalist conservative is to theirs. Both can be just as intolerant when it comes to social matters as the other.
@jojorider2 - Uh, no, it's not a coincidence. Speaking of someone who "relies upon poorly thought out stereotypes and belittles entire groups of people who you have never met and don't really understand or care to understand", you're the pot calling the kettle black. I never said that there was a political group that was particularly free of dogmatic ideology, just that one can't paint every person in that group with the same brush.
@broadjumper1 I thought i had changed the "are" to can be, so I apologize if I painted with too broad a stroke for your delicate sensibilities. I wasn't trying to belittle an entire group of people for their belief system the way you were, just trying to point out the irony in your statement. Which, btw, still reeks of it.
@jojorider2 - What reeks is the shit you're trying desperately to sell. And nothing you say offends me. When I consider the source it makes dismissing your desperate cries for attention more amusing than anything else.
@broadjumper1 LOL. Way to elevate the conversation. Obviously, you are being hypocritical and you know it, otherwise, why come back with vitriol. I'm sorry to have touched a nerve and ruffle your delicate self esteem. Believe me, I'm not really giving this debate much thought nor is it occupying much of my time, so you needn't worry about my "desperate cries for attention". Perhaps you should lay off the sauce when you sit at the keyboard.
@jojorider2 - Oh, elevating the conversation? That's what you were doing? So then we can all assume you always lead with your ass in every discussion? There was nothing hypocritical about my statement. And as far as you "not really giving this debate much thought", that's more than apparent, so now that you've gotten some attention here, now you can go back to elevating the conversation among those who have to suffer you on a daily basis. I'm sure getting sauced is a prerequisite for them.
@broadjumper1 BTW, none of what you said in this post relates to the main point. Does modern liberalism (at least the way it is currently presented) have much in common with liberty. It does for some social issues, bit I see little else.
I only bring this up, because it seems you are trying to equate liberty with liberal by mentioning it's etymology. Maybe I'm wrong.
@jojorider2 - Yes, you're wrong. The ORIGINAL point was what ideologies went into founding this country. And I said It's no coincidence that liberal and liberty share the same root etymology. In your haste to demagogue the entire philosophy, it's hardly surprising you missed the point.
I don't deny that libertarianism is perhaps even closer to many ideals of liberty, but since we're giving opinions here, I would argue that it also shares similarities to Anarchism and that's liberty run amok.
@broadjumper1 Who was demagoguing? I pointed out that liberal and liberty may share the same etymology but are hardly close to the same in practical terms. You still seem to be trying to equate them. Of course liberalism during the days of the founding was hardly the same as it is today. Not really close. So I thought you were making a fallacious argument and I called you on it.
If that's being a demagogue then perhaps you need to grab your Websters.
@jojorider2 -Who was demagoguing? YOU were. I know what you were trying to say, your opinion is obvious, but you didn't address the statement? I alluded to ideologies involved in our country's founding but instead of addressing this point, you deflect and attempt to discredit without presenting a single fact.
And demagoguery? It involves appealing to the prejudices, emotions and fears of people through empty rhetoric and propaganda. Seems you need more help than what Websters can give you.
@broadjumper1 Ok, is Neoliberalism more appropriate? What would you say IS the appropriate term? Classical Liberalism is in my view the pure form of the corrupted and erroding force that is polarized against Conservative right thinking. In my opinion Classical Liberalism and Conversatism go hand in hand as the Founding Fathers embraced progressive views of individual liberty and self direction along with conservative ideas such as embracing and supporting our Christian heritage
@broadjumper1 Ok, is Neoliberalism more appropriate? What would you say IS the appropriate term? I believe Classical Liberalism and Conversatism go hand in hand as the Founding Fathers embraced progressive views of individual liberty and self direction along with conservative ideas such as embracing and supporting our Christian heritage
@mezz077 Wow really? You're telling me the ideologies of Conservatives and liberals have been co-opted by the fringes of their respective bases? Whoda thunk it? Seriously, what's your point? This is painfully obvious to everyone, but it's also naive to assume that a political ideology will always be 100% faithful to its founding principles.. And it's equally naive to assume that competing ideologies won't do everything in their power to define their competitors as negatively as possible.
@broadjumper1@broadjumper1 Ok, is Neoliberalism more appropriate? What would you say IS the appropriate term? @mezz077 Who said liberals have to tolerate you thugs and creeps? You assume that liberals are easy victims for you rightards to bully around. Well guess again, bro.
Many of these comments are clueless. If there was allowed to be a market in media then television would change overnight. These videos aren't about being liberal or conservative, it's describing how the media is a monopoly, and that's why no one takes it seriously.
@ConnerMello2 LMAO, to you a person that is Black or Hispanic is different, to me they are not. Now Gays and Muslims choose what they do. And if they choose to better themselves, then I could care less what they believe in.
no one would watch TV if the conservatives ran it. that is why liberals rule mainstream TV. For a good reason!! Look conservatives have fox news! they should be happy with that. leave the rest alone!!!
@claud2024 - The truth is good TV is good TV. The Cosby show was #1 for FIVE years and in the top five shows for seven years. I don't think anyone is going to call that series a liberal depiction of black stereotypes. "A Different World" was a top five show for five years as well. But to be honest, I'm not sure conservatives really know what's funny OR entertaining because most don't enjoy parody or self-deprecating humor.
@broadjumper1 Just stop my friend. With each keystroke you make it clear that you aren't really a tolerant person and rely on poorly thought out stereotypes to belittle entire groups of people who you have never met and don't really understand or care to understand. You are becoming the very thing you are railing against.
@jojorider2 - Skippy, you're not my friend and I frankly couldn't care less what you think of my comments. You have no idea what you're talking about because you don't know me. Yes, I'm tolerant of dissenting points-of-view, but someone has to express something relevant in the first place.
Yeah and? "The Ghost Whisperer", "Reba" "700 Club" - these are conservative shows no one complains about them. It's just nobody watches them. If I had to put it into one thought I'd say -Liberals make better TV because they push the edge of what's new. That's what Liberals do. Conservatives are more traditional, back to basics, and faith based. Nothing wrong with either one, but one sells and makes stars and one doesn't.
I'm a conservative but I get along great with some strongly liberal people because I don't make a big deal about things when I disagree with them. They might badmouth a Republican I like but I won't badmouth a Democrat they like just to get back at them, I keep my views to myself. I know where I stand, I know where they stand, so there's no use making an issue out of it.
@AgujaAzulMD This works yo a point, however I have some pretty radical views shoved down my throat. Some of my liberal friends even INSIST on talking about who I voted for or who I will be voting for. Or will ask me "How do feel about this or that?" When I am pushed into a corner I will simply say that I don't agree with them, and also say that I will not discuss it further. I also say that it is my right to my privacy. But I will not shrink away if I feel strong enough about something.

The poor put upon right wing. Talk about hypocrisy - I thought you were free market guys. These execs produce shows that are wildly succesfull, going back decades so if there IS a liberal slant to them it must be one that millions and millions of Americans find appealing and have for a long time, so maybe they aren't the ones out of step with the mainstream. You don't like it? Don't watch. If enough people agree with you,the show won't make any money and it will go away. Pretty simple.
finally finally finally its very easy to be famous just follow the agenda, people are not popular because they are good at what they do its because they follow whatever is being pushed
Yeah once again liberals demonstrating that liberalism means hypocrisy incarnate. They want US to accept and be tolerant of THEIR point of view, HOWEVER they do NOT want to tolerate or accept ours !! Who today with a rational and mature mind would be proud to assert they are liberal? These are a very dangerous group of children holding a social gun,,, We as adults need to rein in their behavior and take back our society and culture before it is totally lost!
@carlindelco - Are you kidding me? First off, as a PROUD LIBERAL I accept and tolerate other points-of-view even if they conflict with mine UNTIL the voice on the other end becomes shrill, petulant and spouts hateful nonsense. Unfortunately you, like many people on both sides of an issue, see only labels rather than people. I DON'T support every idea that's labeled "liberal" and I don't shun every idea that's "conservative". The REAL problem is people who demagogue EVERY issue.
@broadjumper1 Sounds good. So why are you identifying as a Liberal ? Or are you a "classical Liberal" as opposed to, say, a Chris Matthews/Harry Reid liberal ?
@donde2k - Why? Simple. I DON'T agree that a bunch of FAT, OLD, WHITE men should have the authority to tell women what to do with their body [yes, abortion] as long as they pay for it themselves. I don't believe Gay marriage is going to lead to the destruction of the institution or that homosexuals can' t be good soldiers. And while illegal immigration is a huge problem, I'm NOT going to vilify people for simply wanting a shot a better life. I don't know what you consider a 'classic' Liberal.
@broadjumper1 The liberal left is so tolerant. And look how non-sexist you are by labeling anyone with a female name a "bitch." I doubt the masculinity of any male who cries so loudly for a woman's right to control her body.
@LisaBaby67 - Tolerant? Yes, we're tolerant. But that doesn't mean we have to suffer fools like you. You could have chosen to say something meaningful and constructive, even if I didn't agree but instead you chose to say something stupid. I STILL support your right to CHOOSE, but not to suffer your ignorance.
@broadjumper1 you know that some conservatives view themselves as liberal of the "Founding Fathers" type? That's right...Washington and the gang were "radical left-wingers" in their day, especially Jefferson.
@broadjumper1 also, if you REALLY feel out of place with the Democrats, which you can't not admit is now heavily super liberal (Obama is an example of that), why don't you just cross the Rubicon and vote Conservative? If you don't like labels, fight them. I consider myself a "populist conservative", and am conservative in all 4 spheres, economic, social, political, and religious, but I often find a hard time agreeing with Republican party candidates...for me, they're not conservative enough!
@outtaker - Who said I feel out of place with the Democrats? Like both parties, they have their extremists but where did you get the impression that I vote ticket? I've voted for BOTH Democrats AND Republicans and on the issues based on my beliefs, not what the parties tell us to think. And while you are free to vote how you see fit, I don't believe our founding fathers would be pleased with those who only wish to impose their values upon everyone else, conservative or liberal.
@broadjumper1 Look, buddy, it's an internet forum. You can choose to ignore me if you want. But I am saying that you, like me, vote on the issues, not the party. It just so happens that neither of our parties have kept to their original platforms. But they're also the 2 parties that do practically anything important in the U.S. anyhow...
Non sequiturs aside, just who is imposing whose values on whom? Numbers don't confer authority, and might isn't right! Give me this at least!
@outtaker - Look buddy, if you wanna be ignored, STOP directing your comments at me. I agree that both parties have gotten off track, but that doesn't mean the basic principles and beliefs aren't principled.
Who is imposing whose values on whom? Both parties are guilty of this to various degrees, but the issue at discussion was and has been abortion rights. The "Right" is doing everything it can to eliminate the right and in ALL cases.
@outtaker - Pedagogue the issue all you wish, but you are not a judge, jury or executioner and the act isn't a crime...but then God knows you're not imposing your values on anyone, are you?
@broadjumper1 No, I may not be YOUR judge, but God knows his own! Taking life is completely immoral behavior, and could never be any man's "right" to do so....Just because you're a failed boyfriend? Ohh..did your condom break? Oh, so sorry your fornicating got the better of you! What do they call that? poetic justice?
@outtaker - Ok, so I guess that means that all of us who've fought in a war and contributed to the deaths of others are guilty of immoral behavior? No abortion when the mother's life is in peril? The victim of a rape? What do you call that? God's will?
Once again, with you folks it's always black & white, never any grey. But nah, you're not imposing your values on anyone..of course not.
@broadjumper1 war can be justified- you know that, soldier! A rape victim? Should the baby be punished for her father's crime? Is that fair?
The grass is always greener...why don't you impose your values from over here, too? We have a lot of room...considering youz guys decided that it wasn't any longer "cool" to be a good person.
@outtaker - Oh, but it's fair that a mother should die and father left to raise a child without his mate? It's fair that an innocent girl or woman is raped and is forced to carry the reminder of her assailant to term?
Dude, this door swings both ways. The whole point is that both sides do it.
@broadjumper1 What happened to sacrifice? What happened to honesty? Is it ignoble for a mother to give her life so her daughter can live? Is it disgusting that a rape victim give a little one the chance at life?
@outtaker - Lord, what a retarded argument. If some one chooses to 'sacrifice' or give the product of rape a chance at life, the choice should be THEIRS, NOT YOURS.
@outtaker - Son, my personal relationship with God is fine. I have been forgiven just like you. If you had a relationship of your own you'd know that. Once again, I don't like abortion, I wouldn't choose one. But just like I wouldn't force my faith upon you, I won't IMPOSE my morality on anyone and sure as hell won't apologize for my beliefs. You can take your self-righteousness and stick it up your ass where it will keep company with you brain. God Bless you...
@broadjumper1 Huh A nice guy like you had a girl once? I'd never have imagined...this isn't my faith. This is OUR faith. This is God's faith. This isn't a me or you issue-we're setting an example for the world and to God, that to pursue our selfish ways, we're willing to kill the helpless and weak. If you're any sort of Christian, you'll want to find out why not only do people today oppose abortion, but why historically Christians and many other societies have. God Bless you, Keep you safe
@outtaker - Married for 27 years Skippy. And while you and I may believe in the same God, I in no way believe we share the same faith. And I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep of your judgment of me as a Christian. You should examine what's in you heart before worrying about mine.
@broadjumper1 You're a hard guy to compliment, huh? That's nice, but listen...Don't blame me if you change your heart in the future. I couldn't handle the shock.
@outtaker - compliment? Wow, you sure have a strange way of expressing them. I know WHY people oppose abortion, I happen to AGREE with many of their feelings. What doesn't jibe is the "protect the unborn" rhetoric, while cutting every social program that actually CAN help. It seems many conservatives stop caring after the child is delivered.
@broadjumper1 I've not my own wallet. I still live with my parents. But we give to charities, I know this from childhood. I'd write to our sponsored poor in Chile. We still receive letters. About American ones I don't know. Must be my father's private affair.
@outtaker - Well, as they say: "Charity begins at home" But in no way should this stop you from doing your own part, even when living at home. There are plenty of worthy charitable efforts you could undertake even if it was to solicit donations.
@broadjumper1 Ha you're sounding like my mom. I want to make a difference in the world, sir. I want to do something grand, but really only for God. There's nothing more I really enjoy than attending Mass and helping out the poor. I've worked at a soup kitchen in highschool, but back then I didn't take anything seriously enough. Today I've grown up, and you'll see, Commander, that the world will change~whether by hand or someone's that I've helped along. Conservatives do have hearts!!! :D
@broadjumper1 Although we argued bitterly, it was a pleasure meeting you, sir. All my best wishes for many more happy and healthy years on God's good earth, for you and your love ones. ~God Bless
@outtaker - Same to you. One bit of unsolicited advice however. As a young man, you should listen twice as much as you talk. You'll have all the time in the world to make your opinions known and you might just learn a thing or two.
@broadjumper1 Calm down; you'll pop a vein! He's talking about Hollywood liberals, not mainstream ones. And besides, money talks. it makes complete sense that right-wingers are walking on thin ice for job stability when they go to Tinsel Town. Hollywood is loaded, and always has been hiring liberals, so for comraderie's sake, they always had been hiring their own kind. Ever since the 30s, Democrats reigned over Hollywood.
@outtaker - Please, you guys have labels for everything. But it's never been a secret that Hollywood and the entertainment business in general has always been liberal. But you seem to think that they ask for party affiliation during the hiring process.

@broadjumper1 it took me 4 pages to find more than 2 comments in a row by people other than you. wtf?
splooie02 8 months ago
@splooie02 - And I'm supposed to care WHY exactly? It's not my problem if you can't figure out how to navigate YT. The vast majority of these comments were responses to those who directed a comment to me, just like what you've done here.
broadjumper1 8 months ago
@rts4761 - Problem is that you can't argue period. Here's a clue, try using FACTS in your arguments and you might finally win one...oh, wait...You can't cuz using facts lead to a sick mind, huh? It's easier to blame everyone else, isn't it? Go smoke a bowl, that'll make ya feel better while you blame liberals for your lot in life.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Pal, all anyone needs to do is look at your comments compared to mine and they'll know who's smarter, but then any 12 year old with a middle school diploma would do as well compared to you. Arrogant? Sure. Smarter? There's no question. Common and dull describes you perfectly.
Now be sure to keep scream about how Obama is a criminal with a fake BC, while blaming liberals for globalization, tax cuts and why you can't find work.

@rts4761 - "the insanity of pc, multiculti, diversity, etc, that is destroying the nation."

Since you barely earned a GED (Good Enough Diploma) , you have little room to malign people who've actually obtained an education.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Christ, you're an idiot.

Or maybe you can go to school and get a degree (or at least a trade school) instead of blaming everyone and everything for your own failures.

broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Riiiiight...in other words ZERO credibility. Look up logical fallacies for an in-depth explanation of your errors in critical thinking. Or file it under "Just 'cause you say it with conviction, it don't mean shit to me." Either one, doesn't matter

@rts4761 - So sayeth the Shepard...
poor baby...him discriminated against cuz he white. So am I. College education anyone? It's not a magic bullet, but it's sure better at opening doors than crying about reverse discrimination, after all., it's easier to point-fingers and find blame than to study, get a degree or two and find a way to succeed. Isn't this what conservatives are always telling us? til they have to put up or shut up.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Oh, of course. When you've been confronted with statistical evidence, simply ignore it and you'll win every debate. I hate to break it you, but comments like that are what leads to losing all credibility. Sorry, but just because "you say so" doesn't mean shit.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - I'm for increased drilling and so is the Obama administration. In fact, in 2010 the Bureau of Land Management issued 4,090 drilling permits in fiscal 2010, but oil and gas operators drilled just 1,480 new wells, using only 36% of permits issued. Why is that? Once again, you conservatives hear the sizzle and never bother to look for the steak. And you've still failed to provide ANY proof there's been 'a tidal wave of crime' brought to the US, even when I've shown rates have fallen.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Yes, we have massive trade deficits with China, China has benefited greatly. And?
Very few Americans have, [benefited] the overwhelming majority [have] not. Look out there, you're starting to sound like a Communist or at minimum, a Socialist.
Sorry, but cutting OFF trade isn't a rational solution, it would only make things worse and it wouldn't create lasting jobs in America.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - And the way you're suggesting we handle it is to figuratively shoot ourselves in the head. The idea that we can unilaterally effect the changes you specify is naive and unrealistic. Unless of course you believe it can be accomplished by force...see where that gets ya.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Or they change. They adapt. What they don't do is whine and say "I want things back they were before..."
No one said it would be easy or painless, but the days of the US being the worlds largest base of manufacturing is over. That's pure capitalism
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - There's no evidence, only innuendo, conjecture and distortions. The issue IS resolved except for the whining. No serious politician will dare address it unless he wishes to kill any chances he has But as I've said before, nothing Obama could ever do will satisfy the hard-core conspiracy theorists on this issue.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - We import 12% of our oil from Mexico and they're our 2nd largest export customer. How many jobs you wanna kill?
As for crime, I hate to break it to you but crime in the US is at 40 year lows. In the southwest US it's fallen by nearly 6% from 2009. In fact the area that has seen the smallest decrease is the Northeast. My point is this, you need to stop listening to the right-wing talking heads and do some research on your own, you seem to have a number of serious misconceptions.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - We can debate the effects forever, but globalization was inevitable as a byproduct of progress and our desire to spread democracy and capitalism around the globe. Now we want to complain about the effects? Nonsense. Then you demagogue to assign blame. You know what's truly ironic? What you're suggesting is anathema to free-market capitalists something you'd expect form those commie and union loving liberals you conservatives you hate. Maybe you're not as conservative as you thought.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Nope, sorry. Trump is little more than a court jester. As he did was raise the rhetoric, not offer any special insights. As for the BC, Obama called his bluff and in the end, people who want to believe otherwise always will think he's lying. Conspiracy theorists will never allow any amount of evidence to alter their beliefs. And if Trump had any real proof (like he said his investigators did), he would have released it. Trump was only looking for publicity.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - But you railing about 'commies' is laughable. This has far less to do with political ideology than pure economics. And now you're complaining about them beating us at our own game. Where's your cry about enemies of freedom when we and other so-called freedom-loving nations colonized other nations, stole land, resources and monopolized industries? All I'm saying is that whining about it does no good. We need to continue to do is us strategic tariffs on severely undervalued imports.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Yes, it definitely puts all of China's trading partners at a disadvantage, especially the US. But until the Chinese are pressured to allow their currency to float, there's little hope of a reemergence of manufacturing in the US. It'll happen eventually, for if they don't, it lead to massive inflation in China. In order to keep the the US at a disadvantage, China must hold the excess US currency which continues to lose value and faster if they dump, thereby hurting their own economy.

@rts4761 - Trump's a fool. I like some of Paul's views but he's never going to sell to enough people to be a serious contender.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - You still aren't seeing the total picture. Americans will NOT significantly higher prices just for "Made in America", especially if they come at a significant premium. And while not all conditions are on par with US factories, it's hardly a system of slave labor. I've seen many factories first hand and they've made great strides and Chinese workers have also seen substantial wage increases. The major issue now is China's currency manipulation.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 You are a liar. Working conditions in a great many of china's factories are a half step above per se slavery. US companies profit mightily from keeping labor and shipping costs as close as possible to zero and then selling the goods in America for as much as they can get. Anyone who knowingly profits from this system is sub-human slime.
amcent2 8 months ago
@amcent2 - No, I'm NOT lying, but what's quite evident is that you don't know a damn thing about them. I didn't say ALL of China's factories are wonderful, some are downright awful. But I've toured several in China like Dongguan, Shanghai, and Ningbo, among others, and while they're not luxury resorts, they're anything but slavery. Yes, companies profit from lower labor costs, you act like that's a secret..but feel free to spreading your self-righteous ignorance
broadjumper1 8 months ago
@rts4761 - What you're not taking into account is that the WTO has a great deal of power and influence on international trade, especially trade dispute. A 25% across the board tariff would go over like a lead balloon and would certainly have a negative effect on the US economy and our exports to China who's now our 3rd LARGEST customer aside behind Canada and Mexico with FAR greater growth potential.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
The idea that America companies should restart manufacturing is almost absurd. Who would we sell to? We would be at such a competitive disadvantage that companies would soon go under. Americans couldn't consume enough (let alone pay the price difference) to make it a worthwhile proposition. But if you can figure out how to run an American factory anywhere near as cost effectively as a foreign factory, be sure to let us know.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - No, they won't elect him. Especially after he basically claimed that all drugs and prostitution should be legalized. That doesn't sell to Middle-America or among religious conservatives.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - You have a habit of putting words into my mouth. I never claimed we'll ever have "unfettered access to their markets", but you're kidding yourself if you don't believe that American corporations don't salivate over growing access to the worlds LARGEST market of 1.3 Billion people. We exported $92 BILLION worth of goods to China last year a 32% increase over '09. Yes, they abuse the relationship but it's NOT going away. Our best hope is to continue to pressure them into reforms.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - And you believe that's gonna change? Wake up, we're in a global economy and labor costs are the FIRST thing all companies look to reduced to improve bottom lines. I'm not saying we can never rebuild some level of manufacturing in this country, but the industrial age in the nation has PASSED. The reason we allow these imports is because we need access to THEIR markets. BTW, maybe you haven't heard but the cold war is over. Even the 'commies' embraced capitalism.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - It's not as early as you believe. In most cases the party challenging the incumbent at least has a good idea who the main candidates will be It's only and right now there's immense dissatisfaction with those who've thrown in already. I never claimed Obama couldn't be beaten, but certainly not buy the group of misfits who've announced or might announce shortly. Oh, and see if you can amp up the rhetoric a bit more, the Republicans will need lotsa fear-mongering to have a shot at it.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - The question is now, who can beat Obama? No one in the field Republicans have today. 2016 is far more likely
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - In truth, it wasn't anyone's idea, just the nature of labor based economies. "Labor dollars go where labor cost are low." But your point is still a valid one. The last thing we should be doing is encouraging companies to offshore labor with tax breaks and other incentives.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - I haven't voted for a Republican Presidential candidate since Bush the Elder. And while I didn't vote for McCain in 2008, I WOULD have voted for him in 2000 if he had won [and should have] the nomination. Clinton deserved a second term and in fact was the better of his two, Lewinsky scandal notwithstanding.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Yes, that IS the real question. At least you're showing that you've put some real thought into the matter. But you've also hit the nail on the head in that it seems that the right will fight for the unborn, but it increasingly seems that they want nothing to do with them afterward...the ol "Get a JOB" mentality comes out.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Ah, right. He was only elected twice, so I gather you didn't vote for him either time. And while I'm hardly thrilled with Obama's performance to date, I shudder to think what a McCain [strong fundamentals] Palin administration might have wrought upon this country's economy. I took would like to see us out of our wars, the sooner the better.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - And where did I claim differently? Truth be told, like you, I abhor abortion, especially those as a result of lack of planning. But that doesn't mean I believe that politicians have the legal or moral authority to outlaw the procedure. This is clearly not the answer, especially when there's NO exclusions for situations like rape, incest, endangerment of the mother's health.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - LOL! You mean the three wars that you conveniently attribute to Obama, but two of which were initiated but Republican administrations? I thought so.
And that a military is necessary isn't relevant to your specious argument. According to you and TJ, "to compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical"
You boys just can't stop talking out both sides of your mouths, can you?
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - "to compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
Interesting...so then anyone who might not believe in war should be able to compel the government to make the military illegal, huh?
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - liberal totalitarians? LOL...Yes, we're equality Nazis! Wow, dumb as a box of rocks. In other words, let's go back to the good ol' days when things were better and blacks knew their place, women stayed in the home, and Mexicans stayed on the farm.
Yeah, you're all about individual rights and freedoms...'til it costs you something.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Dude...do you JUST NOT GET IT? What does this have to with abortion rights? Are you trying to claim that because woman are favored in child custody that men should have the authority to dictate what they do reproductively?
Most states recognize "no-fault' divorces and many states are community property states. But if you feel you really have that much to lose, get a pre-nup or a post-nup. They're both legally recognized and enforceable in spite of beliefs to the contrary.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Only to you. Once again, you've provide little more than a singular scenario where women are the abusers and men are the victims yet claim it's widespread behavior. Given the history of women in this nation, that dog don't hunt. It appears you're threatened by any advances in equality that women have gained including control of their own reproductive abilities. Or are you just afraid of women in general?
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - Who's accusing them of a crime? Stop the distortions, I was addressing BIAS. As for the study, look it up. It's called "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition." But since it wasn't conducted by Bob Jones U, I'm sure you'll dismiss the findings no matter how distinguished the academics.
I especially enjoyed following: All of them [Conservatives] "preach[ed] a return to an idealized past and condoned inequality"..so much for conservative ideals of the founding fathers.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@rts4761 - And while I agree that there's no easy solution to the abortion question, your statement can't be proved and it's basically a non sequitur. Whether or not these things happen have little to no bearing on abortion rights.
broadjumper1 9 months ago

It's because Republicans are not creative. They are unemotional and feel no compassion for others. You have to have a free, open, creative mind to make something wonderful on TV. Republicans just don't have those skills because of their lack of feeling and openness.

All this Liberalistic spew. Why do you liberals preach tolerance when you're the most untolerant group? If I don't agree with you I am a racist, bigot, jew hater, and everything else horrible. Guess what? Liberalism in it's current form has only existed for a few decades. Conservative thinking is what this country was founded on.
mezz077 9 months ago 3
@mezz077 '- "Conservative thinking is what this country was founded "
Riiiight..I guess it's just a coincidence that "Liberty" and "Liberal" have the same etymology. Your idea of what "Liberalism" is nothing more than a pejorative term and hardly worth serious consideration.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 Actually, it is just a coincidence. Today liberty has more in common with libertarianism than modern liberalism does. I would argue that liberals are just as wedded to their dogma as any fundamentalist conservative is to theirs. Both can be just as intolerant when it comes to social matters as the other.
jojorider2 9 months ago
@jojorider2 - Uh, no, it's not a coincidence. Speaking of someone who "relies upon poorly thought out stereotypes and belittles entire groups of people who you have never met and don't really understand or care to understand", you're the pot calling the kettle black. I never said that there was a political group that was particularly free of dogmatic ideology, just that one can't paint every person in that group with the same brush.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 I thought i had changed the "are" to can be, so I apologize if I painted with too broad a stroke for your delicate sensibilities. I wasn't trying to belittle an entire group of people for their belief system the way you were, just trying to point out the irony in your statement. Which, btw, still reeks of it.
jojorider2 9 months ago
@jojorider2 - What reeks is the shit you're trying desperately to sell. And nothing you say offends me. When I consider the source it makes dismissing your desperate cries for attention more amusing than anything else.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 LOL. Way to elevate the conversation. Obviously, you are being hypocritical and you know it, otherwise, why come back with vitriol. I'm sorry to have touched a nerve and ruffle your delicate self esteem. Believe me, I'm not really giving this debate much thought nor is it occupying much of my time, so you needn't worry about my "desperate cries for attention". Perhaps you should lay off the sauce when you sit at the keyboard.
jojorider2 9 months ago
@jojorider2 - Oh, elevating the conversation? That's what you were doing? So then we can all assume you always lead with your ass in every discussion? There was nothing hypocritical about my statement. And as far as you "not really giving this debate much thought", that's more than apparent, so now that you've gotten some attention here, now you can go back to elevating the conversation among those who have to suffer you on a daily basis. I'm sure getting sauced is a prerequisite for them.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 BTW, none of what you said in this post relates to the main point. Does modern liberalism (at least the way it is currently presented) have much in common with liberty. It does for some social issues, bit I see little else.
I only bring this up, because it seems you are trying to equate liberty with liberal by mentioning it's etymology. Maybe I'm wrong.
jojorider2 9 months ago
@jojorider2 - Yes, you're wrong. The ORIGINAL point was what ideologies went into founding this country. And I said It's no coincidence that liberal and liberty share the same root etymology. In your haste to demagogue the entire philosophy, it's hardly surprising you missed the point.
I don't deny that libertarianism is perhaps even closer to many ideals of liberty, but since we're giving opinions here, I would argue that it also shares similarities to Anarchism and that's liberty run amok.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 Who was demagoguing? I pointed out that liberal and liberty may share the same etymology but are hardly close to the same in practical terms. You still seem to be trying to equate them. Of course liberalism during the days of the founding was hardly the same as it is today. Not really close. So I thought you were making a fallacious argument and I called you on it.
If that's being a demagogue then perhaps you need to grab your Websters.
jojorider2 9 months ago
@jojorider2 -Who was demagoguing? YOU were. I know what you were trying to say, your opinion is obvious, but you didn't address the statement? I alluded to ideologies involved in our country's founding but instead of addressing this point, you deflect and attempt to discredit without presenting a single fact.
And demagoguery? It involves appealing to the prejudices, emotions and fears of people through empty rhetoric and propaganda. Seems you need more help than what Websters can give you.

This is painfully obvious to everyone, but it's also naive to assume that a political ideology will always be 100% faithful to its founding principles.. And it's equally naive to assume that competing ideologies won't do everything in their power to define their competitors as negatively as possible.

- Personal Responsibility, frugality and efficiency
- Fiscal Restraint
- Militarism (I'd like to see mandatory service) for self defense
- Anti-drug (Not in favor of marijuana legalization)
- Recognize the benefits of competition and hard work
The truly sad thing is that many so-called conservatives believe these values are mutual exclusive from all liberals. That's simply not the case.

@broadjumper1 also, if you REALLY feel out of place with the Democrats, which you can't not admit is now heavily super liberal (Obama is an example of that), why don't you just cross the Rubicon and vote Conservative? If you don't like labels, fight them. I consider myself a "populist conservative", and am conservative in all 4 spheres, economic, social, political, and religious, but I often find a hard time agreeing with Republican party candidates...for me, they're not conservative enough!
outtaker 9 months ago
@outtaker - Who said I feel out of place with the Democrats? Like both parties, they have their extremists but where did you get the impression that I vote ticket? I've voted for BOTH Democrats AND Republicans and on the issues based on my beliefs, not what the parties tell us to think. And while you are free to vote how you see fit, I don't believe our founding fathers would be pleased with those who only wish to impose their values upon everyone else, conservative or liberal.
broadjumper1 9 months ago
@broadjumper1 Look, buddy, it's an internet forum. You can choose to ignore me if you want. But I am saying that you, like me, vote on the issues, not the party.
