Hello Niall. If I were in your position, I would probably leave the kindle. Sure, it's great while travelling, but you can read on your laptop and at the library. I wonder what I'll do with all my college textbooks after my masters. I probably won't need them, but for the next years I do. There's only one book that's special to me. It's over a hundred years old.
@Sumfera Thanks for the comment. I could read on my laptop, but that's awkward to carry around everywhere, and it's not easy to whip out and read from on the bus. Plus, the kindle is much easier on the eyes :-)
Great, this video is inspiring me to pare down. I travel overseas a tonne (my partner lives in Asia) so I want to get down to two suitcases. I'm having a hard time with books.
@duke1duke1 I solved the book problem with an Amazon Kindle. Absolutely love that thing. I understand many people don't like them, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons for me.
We sold our larger things on craigslist, gave my neighbor the smaller things to sell at her garage sale and gave her commission, took some items to consignment shop and donated A LOT. We feel much more free not having so much "stuff".
Great video. Question: What was your approach to photos (not digital, the ones that were developed on paper and put in albums)? I have a box of them, and they are just taking up space. I want to just toss them. I'm almost there. Thoughts?
@SubconsciousGatherer Thanks for the comment. I didn't have many non-digital photos, but I scanned those few that I did have. I'm not very sentimental about photos though. If I was to lose all my digital photos somehow, I wouldn't be too upset about it.
@SubconsciousGatherer Stating the obvious generic 3 in one printer can scan old photos into digital files & there are scanners made for just the purpose of scanning old photos.
I'm a man who stills sips the pocket knife into my jeans every morning. Where I'm not around my tools at or or in my vehicle, I'd want to carry a multi tool, but I'm sure that isn't compatible with commercial air travel.
Congratulations! You have total freedom now. A laptop is all one needs to own for recreation. All your music videos and internet can be done from there. Public libraries are very cool too, free books, wifi, and DVD's. Food and shelter are the only other things one needs, but if you're traveling, hostels, food carts and grocery stores does the trick for that.
Now thats extreme! My goal is to fit everything i own into the trunk of my car by the end of this month and then gradually move to 2 bags by the end of the year. Was kinda forced into the situation after a bad moving experience and decided it wasn't worth my time trying to get back all the things I lost.
@kcparashar Thanks! I've actually gotten rid of a few more items since this video was recorded, will be able to fit everything I own in one backpack by next week :-)
I did the same thing, i'm living the dream and yes, good will is coming back to me all the time. The value of the things I gave away is nothing compared to the value of the freedom I now enjoy
It's incredible the amount of shit I've carted from one place to the next over the years, stuff I dont use or want, its true, you have to let go of the old to let it new energy, this vid has me psyced, this weekend I start the de clutter.
@midcitygym Yeah, we never really realize all the crap we've accumulated until we have to move it some place. Thanks for the comment, and good luck with the decluttering!
I am trying something similar to this right now. I am whittling my possessions to 30. I own a bunch of articles of clothing, a laptop, an xbox 360 (downloaded games onto its 250 gb harddrive, so I don't own disks but do need a controller). A portable 19 inch tv, cell phone, journal, and a Ford Ranger. I wish everything could fit in a backpack, but two items can't (the truck, and the tv or 360). You're living the dream! I am loving it more and more.
@WincoCodClan Very cool, thanks for sharing! That's impressive to get down to 30 things while still keeping a TV and a vehicle. I'm in the process of going even more extreme myself. In the past few months I've realized just how unnecessary some of my few items are.

I'm Irish, and it's always nice to hear an Irish accent in something self-development related. =)

@gammypage Haha, thanks. After 3 years in the US, I've had to work a bit to keep the accent. Not as strong as it used to be!
