Just picked up a refurbished xbr8 55 with the same warranty as a new tv. For this TV, which usually retails at about $4,000 or more, I got it for $2,600. Picture is jaw-droppingly good.

Very nice set up you have there. I hope to be able to afford a KDL-60LX903 and home cinema system next year. Not decided on the home cinema system yet though, could be the BDV-F500 if the TV doesn't allow you to get youtube and Google ect video streaming.
I can see you like sony but you could of saved money and got a better tv Samsung un55b8000. The response time is 2ms and the contrast ratio 3m to 1plus you get the 240 hz motion smoothing and internet tv widgets are not bad either. But not to put down your setup! really impressive! But i love my samsung.
The Samsung B8000 is edge-lit, not back-lit... so the PQ is still better on the XBR8. It is still currently the best LCD LED to date, and the B8500 is just a tad behind.

So please, you know nothing to even consider white led to be in a much better league than rgb. (A balance of red, green, and blue are used to create surperior color) than just using WHITE ORDINARY light - just like CCFL!
Look who's the one to talk. Haven't I made it clear that RGB is surperior to White LED? Samsung uses white LED and the Sony uses RGB - and the Sony will create better color reproduction because of that. White LED will not have the same balance as do the RGB LED. I am no Sony fanboy, just a person who knows what to look for. The panels used in the 55" versions seemed to be different from each other, so really... even outsourced manu. specs are also not to be trusted in comparison.

LCDs have almost reached their limits, they can only make some small improvements.
LCD hasn´t been a perfect technology from the beginning.

But the XBR8 are AWESOME, the XBR10 or X5500 for EUROPE It´s not an update of the XBR8, It's an update of the KLV-40ZX1 ,in 46 & 52''. The XBR8 or X4500 has local-dimming, 3 coloured LEDs. The XBR10 has edge-lit, white LEDs only without local-dimming. So the XBR10 definitely not has the same quality because it only illuminates the contours of the screen causing not a good image and contrast also it has no blacks whatsoever like the XBR8. The XBR10 is called ZX5 in Japan. It's an update of the KLV-40ZX1, but in 46 & 52 inch sizes. It's not an update of the XBR8.
The XBR8 has local-dimming, 3 coloured LEDs. The XBR10 has edge-lit, white LEDs only.The XBR8 is the best quality LCD ever made. Because they were too expensive, Sony will now probably only make edge-lit, white LEDs like Samsung.
So dude the XBR10 definitely not has the same quality because it only illuminates the contours of the screen causing not a good image and contrast why it is so thin but the disadvantage is that it sacrifices image......Other thing that is wireless and I doubt it to much have the same image quality.....Finally it is in slightly smaller. I keep my 55'' XBR8 TRILUMINOS ( RGB) DYNAMIC LED !!!!
120Hz vs 240Hz These two technologies are very difficult to compare, really are the same. Many people and scholars see no difference, so is that most are practically equal. About your question always sony change the models depending the continent, but also it´s the same tv but with another name or model In these case your tv it´s not like mine because. Mine is illuminated by LED'S of three color's ( Red,Green,Blue ) that calls TRILUMINOS ( RGB ) that gives you better color and contrast. Exellent deep black´s and bright white´s, the only models that have this technology
of LED backlight are only 46'' and 55'' that are 46X4500, 55X4500 or 46XBR8, 55XBR8.

the LED from Samsung encorporates edge LED not backlight LED like this tv, edge LED uses an LCD panel and LEDs on the both sides of the screen, causing non uniformity on the side of the srceen, it has no blacks whatsoever and samsung LED tvs are being banned from stores because it isnt really an LED , its just a name from samsung to sell more

Edge-lit LED is different from back-lit LED.

Look who's the one to talk. Haven't I made it clear that RGB is surperior to White LED? Samsung uses white LED and the Sony uses RGB - and the Sony will create better color reproduction because of that. White LED will not have the same balance as do the RGB LED. Plus, we already told you that those contrast ratio's are just used for marketing - nothing to the actual true performance in regard. So you must not know ANYTHING if you consider those CONTRAST RATIOS as a comparison! You make me laugh.

Tested with color meters, Samsung did not reach anywhere close to 5000:1 as the Sony XBR8 did.
You do realize, that RGB is surperior to White LED in terms of color accuracy - so don't ever expect white LED to be in par with RGB.
I am no Sony fanboy, just a person who knows what to look for. The panels used in the 55" versions seemed to be different from each other, so really... even outsourced manu. specs are also not to be trusted in comparison.

Ha-ha. What's sad is that many ill-informed consumers now believe these contrast ratio's are the numbers that compare and differentiate televisions from each other. First of all, contrast ratio's are undoubtedly rounded to the millions to entice consumers. CR's in real-life testing, will only reach in the low thousand to thousands. Our eyes after all, can only see a certain about of contrast. (XBR is rated 5000:1 vs Samsung's 2000:1)

LCDs have almost reached their limits, they can only make some small improvements.
LCD hasn´t been a perfect technology from the beginning.
But who cares. You will see what the future bring and you won´t be able to influence it anyway. You can use your LCD until you die and now go and have some nice sex with your LCD

btw: I gonna get this TV on Friday too but only the 46", 55" is still too expensive although there was a big drop in prices this year.
I´m not sure what I should take. Panasonic 50V10 or 46xbr8. I ordered the xbr8 on Amazon so I can test it for one or two weeks and then I will make a decision.
I would like to have a TV which performs Blu Rays very well and games but this TV isn´t available so far and waiting on OLED is nonsense ;)

Anon you obviously don't know anything about contrast ratios. There are old LCD's with really high ratios that still have useless blacks.
My old Samsung had 2 mill : 1 compared to Sonys 1 mill : 1 and Sonys black levels are faar superior.

I have an 40inch XBR2 that wont die.. so, cant justify upgrading yet.. maybe OLED panels will be around when it poops out.

This tv is the best lcd to date and Pioneer Kuro plasma si the best plasma tv. The prices of lcd will soon drop once better tv appear. What Sony has done with this tv is incredible. The picture quality is best posible on any lcd. To succed in making a tv 90-95% perfect is ingenious. I want this tv but i will wait to see the new version X5500 with Bravia Engine 3 and 240 HZ. The tv is great now, what posible do you want more? The Design is verry good. X3500 was verry good to. Buy this tv

But the XBR8 are AWESOME, the XBR10 or X5500 for EUROPE It´s not an update of the XBR8, It's an update of the KLV-40ZX1 ,in 46 & 52''. The XBR8 or X4500 has local-dimming, 3 coloured LEDs. The XBR10 has edge-lit, white LEDs only without local-dimming. So the XBR10 definitely not has the same quality because it only illuminates the contours of the screen causing not a good image and contrast also it has no blacks whatsoever like the XBR8. Why it is so thin, I hope the commentary has helped you.

xbr10 52" is what you really need to buy.. same price...same contrast ratio but has 240Hz motion flow instead of 120Hz.. huge difference..

The XBR10 is called ZX5 in Japan. It's an update of the KLV-40ZX1, but in 46 & 52 inch sizes. It's not an update of the XBR8.
The XBR8 has local-dimming, 3 coloured LEDs. The XBR10 has edge-lit, white LEDs only.The XBR8 is the best quality LCD ever made. Because they were too expensive, Sony will now probably only make edge-lit, white LEDs like Samsung.

So dude the XBR10 definitely not has the same quality because it only illuminates the contours of the screen causing not a good image and contrast why it is so thin but the disadvantage is that it sacrifices image......Other thing that is wireless and I doubt it to much have the same image quality.....Finally it is in slightly smaller. I keep my 55'' XBR8 TRILUMINOS ( RGB) DYNAMIC LED !!!!

120Hz vs 240Hz These two technologies are very difficult to compare, really are the same. Many people and scholars see no difference, so is that most are practically equal. I'm not saying that XBR10 is a bad tv but compared with an XBR8, I think that definitely ..... IS BETTER XBR8 WIN !!!! TRUST ME !!!! Hopefully you have used this information of comparison of the XBR8 and XBR10 no ????

About your question always sony change the models depending the continent, but also it´s the same tv but with another name or model In these case your tv it´s not like mine because. Mine is illuminated by LED'S of three color's ( Red,Green,Blue ) that calls TRILUMINOS ( RGB ) that gives you better color and contrast. Exellent deep black´s and bright white´s, the only models that have this technology
of LED backlight are only 46'' and 55'' that are 46X4500, 55X4500 or 46XBR8, 55XBR8.

the LED from Samsung encorporates edge LED not backlight LED like this tv, edge LED uses an LCD panel and LEDs on the both sides of the screen, causing non uniformity on the side of the srceen, it has no blacks whatsoever and samsung LED tvs are being banned from stores because it isnt really an LED , its just a name from samsung to sell more
