As long as you keep in mind all machines will kill you given a chance, anytime, anyway they can, all the afety devices in the world won't change results. In fact when people get distracted, get too comfortable or too safe, that is when accidents happen. You keep your eyes where your hands or any other part in contact, are at all times. This said I still wouldn't reach across the table to make adjustments like that while things are moving.

When working with a chainsaw I always start it up without ear protection and rev it a bit, to regain a bit of the respect you lose when using it all day.
