Check out my impro to this im trying to get out there on youtube mayby get some subs and tips ect ect....... juust updated my channel new DP and background pictures of me! and everthing in play lists uploading loads more in the near future!!!
:D My guitar teacher Jim Ferguson taught me this song. Thanks for uploading this, I finally don't need to spend forever teaching someone who can barely do jazz chords just so I could jam to the song
@mantasparks15 Learn scales and then relate minor scales with the major scales with the same notes like this is C minor and an Ab Major works too. Also get creative with scale runs repeat notes, do some octave harmonies, jazz is 60% improv just remember that
@mantasparks15 No problem man, I do Jazz band at my school so I have to improvise every day and it makes me a much more well rounded musician, god luck to you and your performance!
An important detail that I hadn't noticed at first is that there's a modal change in the 9th measure (Eb minor),changing to a 2 5 1 in Db major (or Bb minor if you prefer it this way)
Great upload otherwise,I'm gonna have a great time working on this one
@celermail That Bb is an A#, or #9. The melody has an Ab and Bb, or b9 and #9; it's written as a Bb for ease of reading.
The rhythm section would play a B natural.
For soloing, some would use the G Altered Dominant ( same notes as Ab Melodic Minor) scale over the G7, some would use C Harmonic Minor. You could use the Ab Diminished Scale, but that would give you E natural. I like it, but it's a little harder to resolve to C minor.
@krushgroov1 man, you didn't understand the question. i know chords very well. thanks aswell, davidmmcg has already replied: in the theme there's a 3b on the G7, but it has to be considered as a 9#.
I consider G7 as a Fdim=Abdim=Bdim=Ddim. You can play Bdim so the bass B of your chord creates tension (sensible bass note) to the next C (m7). It's only an alternative chord, the most important is thinking about the chord that comes before and the chord after G7.Before we have Dm7 b5 (DFAbC) so if you play Ddim (DFAbB) after that, only a note has to changed (C-->B). Then finally Cm7 (CEbGBb). So C->B>Bb. So I don't consider G7 with a 3b, cause you must play the 3(B) if you want this movement
This kind of thinking is a general principle to re-arrange a standard. Then... Improvising on G7 för example, I like to play an dim arpeggio of Bdim=Ddim=Fdim=Abdim. Why not! Sorry for my english!!!!
So I can consider G7 with add 9#...but I prefer a 9b, it's the piano version that is playing Bb (add 9#), it's not the rule, there's no rule maybe. But...B(3) and F(7) cannot be missed, theese note "means" G7.I've tried to explain my thinking, as a guitarist
@OnThatBass Cmin7 for two measures, Fmin7 for two measures, Dmin7b5 for one measure, G7 for one measure, Cmin7 for two measures. Ebmin7 for one measure, ab7 for one measure, Dbmaj7 for two measures, Dmin7b5 for one measure, G7 for one measure, Cmin7 for one measure, Dmin7b5 for half a measure, then G7 for the other half of the same measure. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
im here like what?! then i realise my guitar is tuned down half a step!
im new to jazz, but im here playing in C minor (mostly blues) and just staying in C using the C minor scale and playing around with that.. could someone explain just a little bit about jazz playing so i could maybe use some different scales or something ??
@Wiltonibanez C minor blues Works well for C-7 and F-7, it's safe over Dm7b5 & G7, but what could help give your solo more color is over the Dm7b5 & G7 play a C harmonic Minor scale: C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, B, C. Gives a cool Al Di Meola feel. also Eb-7, Ab7 & Dbmaj7 changes keys, so you might not want to use C minor Blues, because it has a few right notes, but many wrong ones so it's best to use Db major over those three chords. Do you know what modes are?
@ChadizzleFoshizzle i know what modes are but i dont get what the 7 in C-7 or F-7 is for.. and the 'Dm7b5'- is that D major scale, with flat 5th.. i dont get why the 7 is there...
the harmonic minor scale; is that the sharp 7th minor scale? just play that in C?
could you explain to me what i could play on each note change in the song? i've been playing rock music and stuff like that which just stays in one key but im getting bored so i want to get into jazz but i cant get the jazz sound
it's the make-up of chords derived from the literal # note from the scale (ex: in rock you use power chords, that's the root (1st note) and 5th (5th note in the scale) right? to spice up a chord you can add the 7th; there can be a maj and min tension if you want, like how in rock and metal the 3rd is popular for tapping min and maj triads. its also smart to stay away from modes until you know these, otherwise ur playing will be a random flutter of notes and out of place =/)
the G7 should be altered and it's actually G7#5#9 that is what is in the real book. But doesn't matter too much for soloing. The chord matters only for voicing harmonies for the head and comping on guitar or piano.
Man... This is really I was looking for... I've been jamming to this song for more then a year I think, and I really hoped someone would put up a good backing track. And sincerely, this is awesome.
'sorry its a bit fast!' ???? I hope that was sarcastic... it is usually played faster but ofc there is not a specifric tempo that it must be played in
@hugab10 you can download it from mp3skull, mp3bee or rip it with AudioHiJack, or, or, or... If you mean the sheet: toggle full screen and then print screen and paste in paint or word or photoshop, or, or, or...

I actually think it's slow. Most versions are quite a bit faster. Some are much faster.

C- x2 bars (chords sound good, I think its usually played C-9 as you did)
F- x1
then Bb7x1 to
D-7b5
G7#5#9
Guess the only dif is the Bb7 thanx and im gonna check out your other backing tracks

celermail 5 months ago
@celermail Its G7 not G-7 (G minor 7) or G+ (G augmented 7)
G7 is the 1, 3 , 5, b7. its just major triad with a flat 7
G-7 is 1, b3, 5, b7
G+ is 1,3, #5
