  • I WONT GO DOWN CAUSE ME DICK CAN FLOAT!!!!

  • Hopeless in every way. . Not only were there no lifejackets being worn by anyone but the current was clearly carrying the boat towards the pier because he hadn't reversed out into the channel; . He says the gasoline is OK . How does he know that? If the engine had stalled at this point his students and the know-it-all "skipper" would have been in big trouble.

  • I can never remember, on these gasoline powered mono-slug lead mines, which button do you push to raise the main sail?

The fuschai button or the perriwinkel button?!

  • Okay lets say its up to you if you wear a life jacket or helment so if you get hurt or disable dont come crying to the taxpayers for their assistance.

  • @mousepad99 My 16 foot hobie will do 22 knots in an 18kt wind, while your MonoSlug leadmine is lucky to break 9kts. I can blow your hatches off all day long.

If the prevailing winds are onshore, you dont build a marina for sailboats there, you moor your SAILBOAT in the open water.

have fun sailing in circles around orange bouys, you are almost really good at it, Mr Second place. When you want to take a real sailboat our on the the ocean and GO SOMEWHERE, call me.

  • @mousepad99 Hello? Hobies cats have fully battened sails. I have no problem SAILING the boat backwards, sideways or any other direction i want it to go.

Ive sailed 80 foot twin masted schooners on the atlantic - and I didnt NOT need a video to show me how to start the engine in the river and back the boat out of the slip.

This video is a JOKE. If you want to talk about sailing, talk about sailing, but having an engine on your sailboat is a dirty little secret, and you know it.

  • @mousepad99 Joshua Slowcum was the first person to sail around the world alone, in the late 1800's. It took him over two years, he built his ship himself out of wood, and obviously he did NOT have a motor. He was a sailor, you sail your motorboat in circles for a wooden plaque.

If you cant get your boat out of its slip without an engine, maybe you should stay in the harbor. How do you make the boat go where you want on the open seas, if you cannot navigate the marina?!

  • @mousepad99 apparently you could not get a laser off its trailer without a gasoline powered crane.

A motor boat with sails on it is NOT a sail boat.

  • Joshua Slowcum spins in his watery grave, everytime this video is played.

  • How to SAIL?!

WTF is that black thing on the back of your boat spewing all that noise and smoke?!

If you cant SAIL away from the dock, maybe you should make a living doing something else.

  • Sorry guys, but if you're going to teach people things in a video, why not teach? Basically, the instructor did everything, and didn't say what he was doing. Which direction did he point the engine? How far back did he go? Which way did he point the engine to pivot the boat? And yes, what about current and windage?

No doubting the guy is skilled at it, but it's not teaching anyone anything...

  • The biggest rule that he broke? All his sails were tied down when he backed out. If you're taking your boat out you should always have the sails ready to go in case the engine fails.

    Nice try retard village.

  • Mmm. Not much use that. The engine was an outboard. Most sailing boats have an inboard engine and the problem with reversing is the tendency for the boat to veer to port because of the propeller. I just got my boat and it's a bitch to reverse out of tight spaces. These videos are totally useless.

  • "make sure I have gas...." :D

  • Rule 34(g)

When a power-driven vessel is leaving a dock or berth, she shall sound one prolonged blast.

  • Hey Mr. Expert, what about rule 34g?

Nothing like learning from the "experts" on how to not follow the law.

  • Wow. That was lame. Another masterpiece from expertvillage.

  • Most important is to look where the wind and tide are coming from before casting off. He didn't mention them. This was a sailing boat under engine, which is essentially just a power boat with a big stick in the middle.

  • not forcing anyone raelly just think if youre teaching people its a good idea to wear them as an example.. plus better then havig someone else potentially risk their lives to try and save you if you do get in a muddle

  • motors are a insult to sailing. i'm glad my motor broke so you can only use the sail. AND YES YOU CAN USE THE SAILS TO GET OUT OF A DOCK.

  • the title of the vid is "Leaving the Dock"... you don't use sails to leave the dock. Auxiliary power is completely normal in this case... duhhhhh

  • How to sail with piston powered, LMAO, what a scam!!!

  • and more importantly where are the life jackets!!!!!!!!! not good for a sailng school

  • Why lifejackets?

    They're probably all good swimmers

look like they're all "experienced" sailors

    conditions are perfect...

    why the need for jackets?

  • im sure many a person who has drowned thought that!

if you are teaching people you should show them the right way - not do i say but not as i do.

  • then perhaps you should learn "the right way" :)

"The RYA strongly recommends that you should always wear personal buoyancy:

If you are a non-swimmer and there is any possibility of entering the water

When the skipper deems it necessary

    When abandoning ship

When you feel you want to wear one or if you are not totally sure that you do not need to wear one."

As I said.. no need for the jackets as far as I can see in this video, following the recommended guidelines :)

  • no offense meant btw...

  • i thought this was giong to be how to go under sail or at least without motor.. i can do that!

  • no mention of fenders.. no description of "casting off"... camera angle wasn't helpfull...wasn't really that instructive this one :(

  • their boat does not have a helm it has a tiller

  • Anyone can take any boat away from a dock alone with engine. The part that takes pratice is bringing the boat in.
