Looks like whoever is in charge of the maintenance on Franklin Co.'s siren system failed to take into account the pole shrinkage that occurs over time to wood poles. They even state in every Whelen mass notification system manual I've read to check the tightness of the pole-top bracket's bolts to ensure they don't become too loose over time from pole shrinkage. Good news is that as long as the nuts don't back all the way out, it's not falling off of the pole anytime soon.
This is probably why American Signal's and Federal Signal's mount is better since it doesn't fit like a sleeve over the pole like Whelen's and Sentry's do.
I couldn't agree more! I really like ACA/ASC's mounting bracket design, it actually attaches to the pole like a cleat once you start tightening the bolts down, which leaves minimal room for something like this to happen. Federal's bracket design seems to not allow for too much movement if the bolts come loose either, which is also good.
This whelen almost sounds like a T-128. I do agree, this siren needs to be better secure on it's pole, becuase I noticed it ever so slightly started to kind of tip off the pole.
My guess on the quiet voice is that the person speaking is not close enough to the microphone.
I saw on another you tube video from the control room of a city/county that used whelen sirens and the guy was clearly not speaking up to the microphone. This user (I can't remember who) has some siren test videos up and it was like this, the siren tone was clear but the voice was not, though it was not this bad.
By the same token, if you're too close to the microphone, the voice will be more distorted.
It used to be clearer and louder than that. I'm thinking that there's a new guy running the sirens and he doesn't know how to do the voice. I don't think it's the distance from the microphone, it's the guy not projecting. This is another reason why live voice is a dumb feature. If you're gonna have electronic sirens, they need digital voice.
I used to pass by this siren frequently. Apparently, there is a Franklin County siren near Westerville Central HS, north of the county line, at least from what I've seen on their map.
This one is actually at Westerville North High School. Central is actually a couple miles north of...North which doesn't make sense but whatever. Franklin County has 2 other Westerville sirens in Delaware County. One's at the water tower on Maxtown Rd. between Rt. 3 and Spring Rd., and the other is behind the community center on County Line Rd., near Cleveland Ave.
It should carry further actually. I don't completely understand the physics behind it, but I think between 500 and 560hz is where the sound stands out most to the human ear and where the sound carries the best.
Thanks! It's on the northeast side of Columbus. This siren is technically in Delaware County, but because it's in Westerville, and Westerville is mostly in Franklin County, it's part of Franklin County's system.

@dillonrockband thats not good during a tornado warning it goes of and boom big crator in the ground
hrdtw 2 years ago
they might need to consider re-mounting it. a tornado would take that out easily.

1. Siren is not secured on the pole very good.
2. The pole is not secure in the ground.
3. Sounds like 1 or more of the speakers are blown
That siren looks huge compared to the cars driving under and around it.

im guessing a 3016 is around 6-7 feet tall. thats about as long as a short pickup.

what's upwith the siren head being loose?
lildil39485 2 years ago
Smthings wrong wth the rotator the siren sits on, its leaning back, what if it fell off, though, i like the ton e of it ( C# tone)

That 3016 sounds great. =)
With the pitch increase, does the sound carry further or does it just get louder, comparing this to the old, B-flat sounding tone?

I think my 3016's Hz level is at 720.
