  • this is a 100% correct guillotine.. people writing differently have never done BJJ - this is ALMOST the exact same guillotine that Jones just took Machida out with - the difference is, his arm is way longer - allowing him to use it as a leaver, instead of needing monkey grip and he was standing up ... and this is fucking RENZO GRACIE ...

  • any one saying renzo is wrong is retarded

  • classic technic :) btw he speaks like some wise guy from some Scorsese movie :)

  • I am a student of joe capizzi a renzo blackbelt and he has the wickedist guillotine ive ever seen for refernce check out capizzi vs felip de costa

  • Renzo isn ever wrong stupid ass 6blackbelt

  • This video should be titled, "What happens when she doesnt make my sandwich"

  • how do u keep from getting slammed when u got a guillotine?

  • @greatblueherron ny chocking them

  • To everyone criticizing the technique: There are many different guillotine variations. i have won fights with four different variations, and all of them ended up with a semi-conscious opponent. Stop bitching.

  • I made some tap out with this submission today. :)

  • This is good; but, Marcelo Garcia's way is preferred.

  • This is some good sh*t for self defense. I been learning more and more about jiu jitsu. Thanks alot for the upload.

  • @BigSidVNOF Not really, You don't want to go on your back because there will be other people that could be his friends and they would be there to stomp on your face.

  • @Procrastinater09 please....lots of these holds would never work in a real fight like they do in the UFC, anyway. MMA rules forbid exploiting the most sensitive spot on the body: the balls. And a lot of those holds leave you wide open. Just try a rear naked choke or a guillotine on a person who knows that tapping won't get them out....a LOT harder than in the ring lol.

  • @mrkiky it's easier on the street actually because I've done it. Usually a person who starts a fight on the street doesn't know how to fight. It seemed like he didn't even know that a rear naked could even put him to sleep. In a ring or a cage the other person is ready and educated in ground fighting, making it much more difficult. Seriously on the street it was easier, because you have to consider the opponents adrenaline and shock. It makes him fight stupid and not use his brain.

  • @khazal12 What do you mean that he didn't know that a choke could put him to sleep? Cause what was he supposed to do, tap? Anyway, I tried a rear naked choke on someone once and I had to let go cause he managed to get his hand in a dangerous position. True that I wasn't really squeezing , just tried to immobilize and held it for a long time.

  • @mrkiky As in he didn't try to pull my arms off his neck, he gave me one short elbow in the ribs and then went to sleep (I was squeezing so it only took like 4 or 5 seconds). And people around didn't know what the hell I was doing, they thought I killed him lol. If you get your leg hooks in tight, it's kindof impossible to reach for the balls. And most people in the spur of the moment don't reach for weak spots, the just flail punches and writhe around like a fish out of water.

  • @khazal12 Yea I suppose it's true if you're fighting unexperienced guys. Also yes, leglocks, armbar would totally still work, there's no "dirty" way of countering

  • @mrkiky Yh, i've been in 4 real fights in my life, and all of them so far had no idea what they where doing and where confused by the adrenaline shot you get in a fight.

  • @mrkiky trust the techniques, they were perfected by countless generations of martial artists.

  • I'd take out Rendzo..... my techniques are just so much superior.... ok ok ... I'm kidding.... BUT... if he was drunk.... really really drunk.... MAYBE....lol ...

  • yeah thats why frank shamrock kicked your fucking bitch ass

  • hmm interesting... i see about four or five ways the guy could've escaped with this sloppy technique!... He's right about the gilotine being an excellent choke, I know first hand I've used it in maybe10-20 street/cage fights, but if you do it like this you're basically asked to get countered and palm striked to the face. :(

  • Renzo Gracie, he's a legend!!! Thanks for the upload!!

  • this is such a good submission if your a strong guy also sicne can muscle it in pretty easy, hence look at allistair overeem throws guilotine chokes on everyone like nothing cause he is tall and very strong.

  • @desembodic

Especially the way he's showing it ... if you're tired it'd be tough b/c it takes quite a bit of strength to finish it with the grip he's showing.

I usually start it this way and with this grip in such situations but I'll modify my grip later to produce more force.

I'm pretty strong but I want to be sure it works. If you hold this a long time and it fails, you're pretty drained.

  • @desembodic I tap people with this all the time and I'm DEFINITELY not that strong. I tap much bigger, stronger guys. If you actually position yourself like you're supposed to (e.g how RENZO shows it), it doesn't take much strength other than flexing your lat a little. When it takes strength is when you perform it with shitty technique and you don't have his head in the right place.

  • This guy has probably forgotten more about bjj then I will ever know in my life. A great master so they say!

  • Guilotine choke is one of the easiest submission so i am god damn sure he did it right since he is one of the best . If he did it any differently from what you know it means ur wrong

  • 1. Sucessful troll

    2. Youtube/Google the Guillotine done by Marcelo Garcia

  • lmao people doubting one of the greatest bjj teachers of all time, only on youtube.

  • init

  • Renzo is an ADCC champ. He knows how to do this choke.

  • Ol Renzo tapped out Pat Miletich with a flying guillotine, and someone has the nerve to say that Renzo is "not right" about the choke. Good lord.

  • There are variations of this, as most people here have already said, but saying that this variation is just plain wrong is actually kind of amusing!

I don't even know where to start showing you how wrong you are...

  • ... How wrong you are about Renzo Gracie doing this technique wrong!!

  • its amazing how many retards have commented on this video

  • lol thats wat u were taught? from who..this guy brought the fighting technique to america

  • Dude that is Renzo. There are obviously different variations of the guillotine, but saying Renzo is wrong is just incredibly STUPID.

  • @MrThedude73 Renzo is wrong.

  • @MrThedude73 of course, you get taught the mechanics that you can apply in different angles/ holds. The one wit the creative mind is the more "natural" looking grappler

  • LMAO at doubting the one of the best bjj's in the world, lol only in the internet

  • Renzo Gracie is the man!

  • love this move. LIke Renzo said "one of the most common and most effective way to finish the fight in MMA"

  • Torubu is quite correct in his observation, and if watch a REAL MMA fight, it is rarely applied as a blood choke as much as it is a throat crush. Watch carefully....the forearm is almost ALWAYS straight against the windpipe when applied in an actual fight. Gracie is applying it in this video in the proper THEORETICAL manner. Very similar to a rear naked in that the rear naked is often used in its throatcrush manner. Improperly, of course. Crushing a windpipe can land you in prison right quick.

  • ive learnt a variation of this where you do the same sort of thing but push your thumb into their adams apple. even when applied lightly in training it makes you gag and choke and is also very painfull

  • i'm pretty sure that's illegal in virtually everything sport related

  • we learn it as a self defence technique. bouncers use it it get people out of bars. really painfull aswell as choking you out.

  • LOOOL fucking noob

  • you're pretty wrong.

  • I used this today in a real life self defense situation as I was attacked by some crazy guy wearing a sweatsuit. I had it tight and was extremely comfortable in the situation. It was resolved before anyone was hurt.

  • why'd people thumbs down ur comment? lol Mayb its the guy that attacked you.

  • Hahahahahahahahaha definitely someone who doesn't like to be choked out!

  • Thats tough

  • It's a great choke and it works well especially if your opponet is really tired and doesn't have the nengery to get out of it or got rocked by a punch or a kick which leaves them too disorinated to able to defend it. But there is away to defend it. If you are caught in one tilt your head to the side facing your opponet which will relieve the pressure from wind-pipe and then start taking shot to their ribbs which will then make them break their hold.

  • Sorry but your wrong it's suppose to cut the wind pipe off. Even so when you turn your head to the side it releves that pressure. Also you aren't blocking the artery as you think you are. Keep in mind even if one artery is blocked you still have circulation going to the other artery. Go watch Bas Rutens front choke esacpe into a slam on here, you'll know what i'm talking about.

  • no, if u put ur chin into their arm and they continue to squeeze it will put pressure on your neck and could do some serious damage.

  • fuck you.

  • Spoken from a street thug? lol Go learn a thing or two or train for a day in BJJ. Renzo is a 6th degree black belt, so i think i'll take his word over your's in regards to a proper Guillotine choke. Thanks for trying though.

  • extremely lethal and popular choke--when that bad boy is locked in properly your opponent has only two choices--go to sleep like a man or tap out like bitch

  • HAHA very true...I lose more fights than I when, but I dont run or back down......Now that I am back in Arizona I just carry my ruger sp.101 .357 snub nose ...fuck it..

  • ah so you're a gimp who carries a weapon... how pathetic of you

  • Comment removed

  • LoL that's funny. I figured that out without any teaching. I had a guy in position and it was evident how to choke him. Extremely effective choke. With straightening out or even arching your back....pfffffff. Guy can pass out in no time.

  • i fucking love this move

  • Thats machida right? the guy being choked?

  • Very good choke hold!

  • can you break or do damage to the neck?

  • you can cause brain damage because it attacks the arteries not so much the bones

  • king of the chokes

  • ye...dont let go lol

  • i like it its simple

  • Renzo does make it look easy. But yes, the choke is easy to learn, harder to master.

  • is this effective in a real fight because if u let them go cant they just start pounding away at u?

  • They can hit you form in your guard easy...

  • In a real fight the point of putting your opponent in a chokehold would be to incapacitate him, not make him tap out. So by the time you let him go, he should be unconscious.

  • ur asking if this is effective in a real fight? well considering that choke blocks ur arteries or w.e its called in ur neck and blocks blood flow to ur brain... people tap because well... they aint tryin to get passed the fuck out... another good choke is the rear naked choke... the reason why i liek it... is because when ur on the ground in a real fight many times the opponent will turn on his knees because of lack of experience and then BAM u got him in the most effective choke ever

  • I don't think this is a blood choke to be honest, I feel it crushes the windpipe more than anything else. The forearm, when done to a male of course, pushes the adam's apple back into the throat which is extremely painful. Cutting off wind, you can't breath and you're out pretty quickly, albeit slower than a blood choke but this hurts a lot more than blood chokes.

  • it happend to me wrestling with friends and it is for sure a blood choke haha

  • well with proper positioning it can be both.

the forearm over the throat is the air choke, while the ulna and bicep on the carotid and jugular, respectively, cut off blood supply.

  • Did Royce put on a few pounds?

  • That's Renzo

  • lol

  • Myself and another officer had to arrest a suspect tonight. Had trouble getting his hands behind his back until I applied the Guillotine choke. Took only a few seconds! Great!!

  • "renzo gracie choke", huh?

  • renzo gracie is a very talented martial artist.. i plan to train at the renzo academy once i finish school...which is another yr from now,,

  • You are the man Renzo!!!! You have an excelent partner in Mexico, Mario Delgado the best JJ teacher!

  • the dude's brazilian. Cut the guy a break.

  • i love renzo

  • piekna gilotyna:D

  • are you supposed to cut off the veins to stop the blood flow and make ur opponent unconcious with this?

  • Pretty much it :D

  • veins? lol? just the two main arteries in your body..

  • the guillotine, when sunk in deep enough, puts pressure on the carotid artery and cuts off blood flow. Most of the time, you don't end up deep enough and just end up coming across the windpipe.

In a competition format, both will get the tap (across the windpipe probably will tap faster), but in a real fight it will take longer to put the guy to sleep if you don't get it in deep enough to cut off the carotids.

  • Yea, back when I wrote that comment I wasn't sure if it was a blood choke or a throat crush, but now I've learned it can be done both ways.

  • Actually a blood choke is much faster than an air choke. A blood choke can putyou out in about 10 or 12 seconds an air choke in about 20 to 25 seconds.

  • 10 or 12 seconds?!!! a blood choke can put you out in 4 to 6 seconds.

  • I won't argue with you, I saw my friend's teacher on youtube putting guys out in 5 and 6 seconds. look up Justin Chim Chim Garcia or Jungle Gym. These were the numbers I got from a cop, I know what 12-20 seconds can either kill or cause serious brain injury.

  • woohoo fun to practice on friends

  • Ironic that Renzo finished off Pat yesterday with the very technique that he demonstrated as an IFL promo clip. Congrats Renzo!

  • gotta any more videos like this??i saw that bas one u have, good shit,.....

  • Thanks. They come from the IFL shows on FSN/Comcast Sport Net

  • stfu
