I think what you hear is different tone at certain height that just natural sound wave. It great for podcast but I need something more warmer tone for music. Now one question which is your favorite mic and which one you recommended for music(vocal) recording.
I think what you hear is different tone at certain height that just natural sound wave. It great for podcast but I need something more warmer tone for music.
so mine is similiar situation but for me I plan to use the Mic for covers, however I am new to this, and I was wondering would I need a mixer? And must I have a desktop to record? Or is it okay to use a laptop to use this mic?
Hey, I have a problem. When I record with the microphone, it sounds perfectly fine but then I upload it to Magix Video Editor and add video with the audio. When I finalize the video, it sounds a little muffled. I'm not doing this to advertise my videos I just need a little help because I'm not sure if I got ripped off or not. Do you mind going to my channel and looking at my How To Love - Lil Wayne video and giving me feedback? The audio seems really muffled compared to this. Thanks!
I actually own this mic and it sounds buzzier than it does when I record with it. I've noticed this on other videos too... it's this an EQ issue or is it due to the usual YouTube audio obliteration?
@PocketDrummer - I run processing which seems to drive the YT audio transcoding crazy ; ) It wasn't always that way, but some vids do have very audible artifacts. I'm mostly back doing audio-only shows at NewMediaGear, although we will be trying YT again at a higher resolution.
@nickvisstick Well it's possible using a xlr plug to 1/4" jack cable with a 3.5mm connector (very common and cheap) but the sound wouldn't be great, but i guess it depends on what you want it for. The better option would be to use a mixer with a pre-amp and/or audio interface which vary in price.
I am also using the Rode NT1A and I am happy with it. But in your recording i find disturbing sounds, don't you think this record is still a little bit to sharp? Sounds a little scratchy to me. But these sounds arent in your natural voice if i compare it to the neumann clips you've posted. I think the Rode NT1A can sound a little softer...
I wonder if the slight distortion in the NT1-A is inherent in the mic itself or a product of the pre-amp stage. I run the NT through my Firestudio and have the same problem getting a "clean" tone out of it. Very frustrating.
@NewAyedge I had the same question. I watched this video and his video review of the Yeti, and this sounded much, much better to me. Maybe the new Yeti Pro changes things though. The versatility of the Yeti is nice, but in the end I'm going for sound quality. Of course, if you need USB, then obviously Yeti. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Have you tested the Rode NT2-A alongside this. It has different patterns, and I was considering buying it. Would the sound quality of the the 2a be the same when on cardiod setting?
I have an NT1-A and a 230. When I run the NT1-A with the 230 I get some of the same thing with the compressor when I use the Aural Exciter and "Big Bottom".
I am interested in buying this mic but I was just wondering, I already have a Yamaha Stagepass 250M that has a mixing board with phantom power. Do you think I could use that as a preamp for the Rode NT1A? If so, would the quality be any different than if I use another brand of preamp? Thanks!
Do you have that mic mounted on a rode PSA arm? I have this mic but apparently going by its website this mic is too light for the arm and recommends mics between 770g & 1.1 kg. The NTI-A comes in at 315g which would be way too light. & from an unhappy customer review they actually did specify to make sure your mic weight lies between these weight amounts. But by this vid, you dont seem to be having any trouble...& I really want to put it in an arm for ease of use as you have.
I like how the sibilant sounds came out. I did hear one popped p before 5 min. That's just nit picking. Great show. The mic does sound papery in that 'sweet spot' you'd mentioned. I like it. Oh. One more popped p at 9:05! :-)
Here's a tip for you in regards to YouTube transcoding.
I record and upload most of my content in HD, as that's how I want people to view it. During the upload process, I mark the video as private. Once it has completed uploading and processing, I make it public for all to see.
This way, no one sees it until it's processed and as we intend it to be viewed.
No problem Mark. Thank you for the work that you do, and service you provide to your audience. As I said before, I've been a loyal fan since NMG was Podsqod.

@Poachy20 I do a lot of radio imaging and tv spots and found that the old radio standard of symetrix 528e.
It has a built in phantom power switch that will power the mic on the back.

b-2 pro at a lesser price, is better (for recording voCAL) THAN rode.

Yes - I heard a few 'pops' in the phones.
It's very hard to describe the sound of this mic. The consistent word other people used was 'bright', but I think there's more to it than that.
That's why I enjoy keeping this mic around. It has a unique character.
