Why the Republicans are unable to make their argument for deregulation, free-trade and pro-business policies without denigrating community service that seeks to help the least among us is beyond me. They are mocking community organizing during a campaign whose motto is 'country first' and the day after the RNC theme was 'service' lol.
Yes they do think the lives of those people are not relevant. Those comments pissed me off so much when that dumb chick said that we were furious. Community organizing and giving back to people who deserve and NEED service IS a real job and further more it demonstrates the character of the person who is doin it because most times its for free and for little money. Don't worry Obama I got you!
i think that it was very outrageous for palin and guillani to mock obama about his community organizing experience.that is a sign rite there that palin and mcbush are just inhuman.she talks like a robot with no feelings.we dont need that.We need a leader that will bring love and unity in this country .not the past 8 years of hate and poverty..Obama U rock..
Also watch the Biden video from his speech yesterday in Langhorne, PA. Compare with the seclusion of Palin by her Republican handlers. Compare with the absolute terror of the Republicans during the convention that any of their speakers might slip up and even mention that Bush has been in office 8 years. Every wonder why they didn't even want him at the convention? Ever wonder why they avoided saying anything about building on his successes?
I couldn't agree more with that reply! They know absolutely nothing about working hand in hand with less fortunate folks! They're out of touch and their policies are out of date! Many great leaders in history were community organizers, the main one of course being Jesus Christ. OBAMA 2008!
I bet you if he wore a cowboy hat and chanted for the destruction of the environment republicans would love him. I can't wait until our country is respected throughout the world again... I love the USA, but it would nice to travel the world without having to pretend I'm Canadian.
If you are able to make the changes happen that you promise, then I believe these years will go down in History forever...Dont forget your promises!!! GO OBAMA 08
I have mentored 'at-risk' children (I really dislike that label) in middle schools in my area, so thank you obama.
I've held out donating cuz i dunno, I didn't believe, but youv'e shown me you can stick to the issues and keep this election on course and about the american people and their issues and not get involve with the mudrakeing, so i guess I lost the bet with my sister in law and ill go and donate the $20 that was up for grabs...
Bringing people together in a neighborhood for the betterment of all is a horrible idea. Why would an ivy league grad want to do something like that? Is he interested in national service service or something? He wants to serve his community for little pay? What a liberal, putting his country before his own pay. What a disgrace. Clearly your profit should come first, then maybe you can fight for the rich, forget the poor! That's the American way, every individual for himself!
Get the word out in Florida, and dont let the Republicans cheat again. Hire workers instead of paying for tv ads. Get the word out!
A $408 Billion with a "B" deficit, millions of cut jobs, millions of jobs sent overseas, $1/gal gas to $4/gal gas...from 8 years of Republicans. No more Republican lies!
Great response! How is community organizing a bad thing? Silly republicans. I'm ashamed to say I voted for George Bush in 04'!!! Not this this time buddy. Obama/Biden 08'!! - Texans for Obama/Biden!
I laugh when people say Obama is an elitist when Gov Palin and Sen McCain look down on his position as a community organizer. So what if it isnt considered an executive job, he made a difference in the lives of working americans. isnt that what this election about? Isnt that what AMERICA is about?
You know what? Obama is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! You go and get those people who dismiss the struggling middle class that Obama personally helped with his own two hands. Yes, that's why they are so out of touch.
I think community organizers are great people. Even though I never lived in Chicago, I imagine that Obama was a great community organizer. This is how the country should be run, by local communities, not some goons in Washington! Let's flush Washington down the toilet and take our country back community by community! Let's end this divisive political rhetoric and send the politicians (Bush, McCain, Obama...all of them) home!
John McCain claims to want 2 get rid of the lobbyist in Washington, yet they run his campaign. John McCain gives tax breaks to the big oil companies, while the average American can barely afford to pay the high cost of gasoline. Elect John McCain and we will get four more years of misery.
Democrats are blessed b/c in Obama,we have someone who really cares about us.Republicans tried to make him out to be just a "celebrity" and mocked us as simply kool-aid drinking fans. However, isn't it funny how they now brag that they have a celebrity or rock star of their own. It's obvious that it was ALWAYS about envy. It's like a child on the playground who doesn't have what you have & WANTS it but will try to make you feel that what you have does not possess value. So predictable and phony!
Young people who do community services, you are in great company:the Late Princess Di, Sister Teresa, Martin Luther King, M. Ghandi, the Kennedys, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and so many more. Take pride in your community service. The republicans, including Palin, Giullani(sp)caustics remarks were in line with warmongers. They seem to have a chip on their shoulder They will take that caustic attitude to world leaders and we will always be at war. Barack is for peace and is no push over.
Of course. I love it when simply stating the obvious is evidence that the republican party is completely out of touch. They are the ones who are so angry that they make disparaging statements about Barack before they even consider what the words actually mean.
Palin had the absolute gall to smirk during her speech as if she has no clue about the numbers of American supporters and supporters around the world behind Obama/Biden. Any comparison between Palin and Obama or Palin and Biden is beyond absurd.
Palin left out a few little details in her comparison, namely that Obama was President of the Harvard Law Review, and brilliant; 10 yrs as civil rights lawyer and professor of constitutional law; eight years in Illinois Senate; three years in U.S. Senate. Anyone can easily google his incredible legislative accomplishments. And apparently Sarah believes the American people are stupid, and dont know that McCain by his own words, has supported Bush 90% of the time.
Community Organizers should be respected and honored. The GOP's put down should show us all who should be President. The man who should be President should respect all Americans. That certainly wasn't demonstrated at the RNC, by anyone. All I heard was put downs about so many people, groups and all I heard was labels being applied to American citizens. I didn't hear that message come out of the DNC. I heard a message of respect, hope and inclusion of all. NO McCain, No way, No how!
This whole interview was worth seeing, it really put things into perspective. He's great at keeping grounded and level dispite everybody attempting to make politics a circus. I don't care if Palin says he had 'Greek pilars' behind him, did she listen to what he was saying? His words are anything but supercilious.
They are out of touch and don't get it because they haven't spent much time working on behalf of those folks (the American people). BEAUTIFUL! This is exactly what McCain should have acknowledged in his speech. He's not working on behalf of the American people-he's working on behalf of the Republicans-Sara Palin's selection proved exactly that!
Brap brap! It's the Obama Rap: Obama is a gangsta: Gotta give him his dues: He'll ruckus you up If you try to step on his shoes. Lie about him, Cry about him, But it's all just more of the same old "news." He'll fix the economy And make a new healthcare plan. So stand up and shout with me: Yes We Can!
GO OBAMA! This crud about him being "just a community organizer" is ridiculous on so many levels, I can't believe it. The National Association of Social Workers, a nonpartisan professional organization, is outraged at this junk. And so am I.
I heard her speech, and she very condisendingly compared her experience as a mayor and obamas experience as a community worker. She spoke as though her being a mayor was far superior. As a community social worker i take offence, we are the ones getting our hands dirty and and really working and getting on a personal level with the people....no doubt she had had a lot of paper work etc...but working on the streets with our societies marginalized members is real life changing experience.
As a resident of a small town, 3700, the mayor is a part-time job. It's the city manager who really runs things.
The quality of a good leader is who they surround themselves with. Obama beat one of the most powerful political machines (Clintons). I'll bet most CEO's of any major corporation can't perform the tasks of the front line worker. Do people really think the president sits down with pen and paper and actually balances the budget? Sarah can kill and gut a caribou. So send her to Iraq.
There is another group representing community workers they have started up a web site. They really didnt appreciate Palin's remark. It shows that she is not thinking and is a loose cannon. Community organizers and social workers are voters. She was trying to dig into Obama and ended up offending the grass roots base of voters.
and this is why i love Obama,he takes all the negative republican energy and lets it roll of his back. He is a better person than either of them could ever hope to be. They are intimidated by his good nature and the fact that people are drawn to him.
It's not just that he lets Republican attacks and smears roll off his back. He exposes them for what they are: diversions from the real issues. Republicans tell you who to fear or hate or blame, just not how to solve America's problems.
communities should be offended by guliani and sarah palin for saying what they said. all they do is throw low blow after low blow. they try to scare people into voting for them like they always do. they lie. they don't give plans on how to fix the economy, or health care, etc.
I don't see what is so funny about mocking this. After all, our Founding Fathers of the USA were essentially Community Organizers. MLK, Jr. was one. Jane Addams was one.
To all of you wondering how the republicans at the RNC could possibly find this jab funny, it's because of this (and I am non-partisan so don't pin this on the democrats): They are horrible human beings. Scum of the earth. That's why they can laugh about the fact that someone volunteered their time to help people. No other explanation really when you seriously take a good look at it.
I felt like I was the one laughed at when at the RNC thousands of people chuckled and laughed out loud at the thought of Baracks willingness to help people like me and our communities!!!
basically part of what Obama wants to do, is spend our money for us. He wants us to give the governent more of our money, and he wants to invest it for us, instead of letting us keep our money in our pockets and not expand the governemtn==nt.
Obama, u FAILED at comm. organsin, so how can the American people believe u will be successful in Washington? Look at the areas u did comm. organsin in Chicago. THEY ARE STILL SLUMS and EVEN WORSE. LET US NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE REZKO, u frankly, RUINED Chicago housing market with those terrible, run down houses.
So, dont insult the McCainPalin ticket with ur lies. CindyMcCain has been all over the world, improvin the lives of EVERY1, and her adopted daughter is TRUE testament of it
@stfugine: Cindy McCain was drug abuser who didn't do shit compared to Obama. Obama was a community organizer, not a fucking mayor, he didn't have power over the slums of Chicago.
This is exactly what the country needs not another polition, riding on the coat tails of his past, is an old game... The one thing that we say in my circle about achievements are that what you have achieved, what are you doing and what is your vision... nothing else matters.
Not sure I'm going to vote for Barack Obama yet, but I'll tell you, McCain just keeps making judgement mistake after mistake and surely that does not bode well....
Pure Karl Rove and Bush speech writers to take any single element and turn it against their opponent. Obama - you need to spread this word, I don't think people understand what Community Organizers really do for our country, and I don't think people understand where this was in your career.
Can we get the FIRED UP? READY TO GO! Chants going again? Yes We Can is nice... but I miss screaming Ready To Go! from the beginning of this whole campaign...
I find it ironic that the republicans don't believe government can solve your problems, but they ridicule involvement in community organisation... which they claim to support.
Government is just here to invent enemies oversea and march young people off to fight. What happens at home is no concern. Common people are on their own and just get to pay for glorious wars.
Elect someone who understands people and their real life day to day problems? Can't have that sort of thing! Vote in a war hero & doll-face for 100 glamorous years of war.
Alternately, there is a "community organizer" +10 years of government experience, who cares.
Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A as to why Obama-Biden is the first ticket I support, not another "vote for 'em because I don't want the other guy in".
I've donated when I am able... and this campaign will not have a bigger vocal supporter than me.
January 20th, 2009 will be a great day for this country.
as usual Obama is spot on! I like a president who can think on his feet and understands the hardships of the working people who have always shouldered an unfair share of the tax burden. Barak you are the leader we have been waiting for!!!!!! Obama/Biden 08!!!!!!!!!
Barack Obama is too generous...his credentials can chew up Sarah Palin and spit her out....but ofcourse hes not a Republican. Hes an actual rational thinker.
Obama is clearly a level-headed person who keeps his cool, but there are times when the appropriate response calls for a little more heat. I don't think you necessarily sacrifice the moral high ground by bringing some fire and passion to a reprimand. He's talking _about_ the statements and their speakers; it would be nice to see him address them directly more often.
Just a thought (sorry in advance if this isn't appropriate for an official campaign video discussion thread).
Well said (and worth saying), though it got me wondering about something.
I understand the calm, cool-headed, "bemused" strategy behind these necessary responses, but I would like to see Obama occasionally get outraged at things that deserve outrage.
I've supported him since he officially began his bid, but I have to admit that there's also some value in Hillary Clinton's rougher, more direct approach when it comes to taking on truly despicable attacks. (continued in next comment)
I believe that was a excellent answer. As I have said before, how dare they mock community organizing as if it does not matter it shows just how out of touh they are. I promise if that idiot of a party wins I will move to Canada. I must admit that nothing would suprise, I mean we are the country that elected a C average president not once but twice, so shame on us if we do it again.
That was a perfect answer!! Who are they to talk as if what he did is trivial. I swear if that idiot of a party wins I will move to Canada, however nothing would suprise after electing a president with a C average not once but twice, we need to be ashamed!!!!!!!!!
Booyah!! The "Ali" of politics and proud leader of the Democratic party! The "Caribou Barbie" and "Cheek-Biscuit" team has no idea how the average american gets through life.
What does it say about our current state of politics that Obama has to come out in defense of community organizers? The rhetoric coming out of the Republican party these days boggles the mind.
Wonderful!! Thank you, Barack! What you did back then was really show you care about the people, and that is not the ONLY experience you have! I think being in the Senate and working for the State of Illinois to pass legislation makes you MORE than qualified! But Sarah Palin has to attack what you do because she knows she doesn't have experience in anything. She's barely been a governer and if anything happened to McCain, she would be completely lost!
Who does he reperesent? the majortiy of americans who want a single payer healthcare system or the big medical corporations that don't? - the latter not the former.. though he seems to have fooled many.. people will still be turned away from hospitals sick because they are too poor under this man.
I agree with you 100%. It does show just out of touch they are with average person. What's next from the republicans, slamming on people that work in homeless shelters?
"Why would that kind of work [community organizing] be ridiculous? ... Do they think that the lives of those folks who are struggling each and every day, that working with them to try to improve their lives is somehow not relevant to the presidency? I think maybe thats the problem...they're out of touch and they don't get it because they haven't spent much time working on behalf of those folks."
There is an old proverb: "If you want your dinner, don't insult the cook". Well, Palin and her party have insulted the people who put them in power once again, their own grassroots. Stand up for yourself. Make them regret it, have some self respect.
Obama's community organizing experience is what has kept him so in touch with Americans over the years. I want to thank Sen. Obama for giving me a similar experience this past summer as an Obama Fellow.
Is it ridiculous that obama has to even answer to unbelievably stupid criticisms. He is proud of helping those people. How disprespectful to belittle him for that.
Republicans have figured out that the majority of Americans don't actually vote. So when Barack Obama comes along and organizes people all over the country to register to vote and participate in this upcoming election...the republican party becomes nervous. Republicans are nervous because Americans who usually don't vote, are now becoming actively involved and are demanding change. Barack Obama is the greatest option and hope for change. Show up on November 4Th and change America!
It took Palin going to transferring to 5 colleges and going through 6 six years of school to obtain a Bachelors degree in Journalism. The woman is obviously an idiot who cannot be taken seriously. Someone should tell her dumb ass that JESUS CHRIST WAS A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER. The stupidity of the Republicans is really baffling at times.
The republicans think that trying to help out people who struggle everyday is a joke. I think having a record national debt, no WMA's, and record oil profits (not sales but profits) is a joke.
This is exactly the kind of retort that we need. Not a highly person attack, but an aggressive observation that properly responds to outrageous claims. It's a fine line to tread, but I have faith that Barack Obama can do it!

It's not just that he lets Republican attacks and smears roll off his back. He exposes them for what they are: diversions from the real issues. Republicans tell you who to fear or hate or blame, just not how to solve America's problems.
bicyclethief 3 years ago
communities should be offended by guliani and sarah palin for saying what they said. all they do is throw low blow after low blow. they try to scare people into voting for them like they always do. they lie. they don't give plans on how to fix the economy, or health care, etc.
DaKidSiick 3 years ago 21
I don't see what is so funny about mocking this. After all, our Founding Fathers of the USA were essentially Community Organizers. MLK, Jr. was one. Jane Addams was one.
Poor taste, RNC. Poor taste.
nikiconrad 3 years ago 23
To all of you wondering how the republicans at the RNC could possibly find this jab funny, it's because of this (and I am non-partisan so don't pin this on the democrats): They are horrible human beings. Scum of the earth. That's why they can laugh about the fact that someone volunteered their time to help people. No other explanation really when you seriously take a good look at it.
koanikal 3 years ago 12
Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor. Give me the community organizer every time.

basically part of what Obama wants to do, is spend our money for us.

What is this "community" stuff?
Government is just here to invent enemies oversea and march young people off to fight. What happens at home is no concern. Common people are on their own and just get to pay for glorious wars.
Elect someone who understands people and their real life day to day problems? Can't have that sort of thing! Vote in a war hero & doll-face for 100 glamorous years of war.
Alternately, there is a "community organizer" +10 years of government experience, who cares.

HomyguyZ 3 years ago
Well said (and worth saying), though it got me wondering about something.
I understand the calm, cool-headed, "bemused" strategy behind these necessary responses, but I would like to see Obama occasionally get outraged at things that deserve outrage.
I've supported him since he officially began his bid, but I have to admit that there's also some value in Hillary Clinton's rougher, more direct approach when it comes to taking on truly despicable attacks. (continued in next comment)
HomyguyZ 3 years ago
I believe that was a excellent answer. As I have said before, how dare they mock community organizing as if it does not matter it shows just how out of touh they are. I promise if that idiot of a party wins I will move to Canada. I must admit that nothing would suprise, I mean we are the country that elected a C average president not once but twice, so shame on us if we do it again.
csrlove 3 years ago
That was a perfect answer!! Who are they to talk as if what he did is trivial. I swear if that idiot of a party wins I will move to Canada, however nothing would suprise after electing a president with a C average not once but twice, we need to be ashamed!!!!!!!!!

Ignore them Barack, a guy like Guilianni believed that he could be president by starting his campaign from Florida with 9/11. He has no wisdom.
His tenure as a NYC mayor saw police brutality of the worse kind and he supported it all the way.
As for Palin, that girl will meet Joe Biden and explain why killing innocent people in Iraq is the will of God like she claimed 2yrs ago.
She will have to defend McCain's vote against the GI bill. And why he voted against equal pay for women bill.

Exactly.
