American coupons sound awesome! I'm in Australia and I love to carry coupons with me as well as membership stamp cards, it's a little hobby of mine, it saves money and you sometimes get free stuff so why not? I get a thrill out of it too.
ill admit to this, in october, a coupon came out for $8 off two covergirl products. i bought 100 pieces in one go and i believe my total was around $700...i paid $1.28. yeeeah...and stores do put policies now...about a week ago we got the cops called on us at a kroger for coupon abuse...so this is kinda dangerous..
FYI...Not ALL stores give you the difference or extra like you mentioned with the 20 cents. I use coupons because I get a bit of a thrill when I save a few bucks on something but I am not a huge couponer like the women or men on the show. I do cut my coupons pretty much every week but taking more than an hour to cut coupons is too much for me. I am all about saving but I do have other things to do in my life. :)

And that is why in Finland you can't combine 2 coupons. There is actually a text under every coupon saying "This coupon cannot be combined with any other discounts" So if you have 2 coupons 1 with 50% discount and the other with 3 for 2 offer you can't get 50% discount from your stuff

Don't rely on "reality" tv to give you any sense of reality. Those shows hurt a lot of people..they actually create extreme situations & then lead people to believe there are all these crazy people, etc. I use a lot of coupons, companies PAY to use those coupons. And I too, donate a lot. Those shows have given a lot of people a very unfair & very unreal name..& in case you haven't noticed../the economy is crap. People need all the help they can get.
i saw this one episode where the total price was a little over $3000 and with all the coupons the store ended up giving her about $50. Imagine getting payed $50 to shop! But most of these extreme couponers donate a lot of the things they get to local charities so I think thats really nice :) however i think its a little selfish when some of them buy things they dont need and dont even donate. but i think couponing is such a great idea, except it seems like a lot of work :( love that show!
You dont sound passionate you sound jealous. I have watched ever episode of this show and you are totally blowing every thing out of proportion and exaggerating just a little bit. So hopefully folks will use their own brain and watch the show for themselves. There is nothing wrong with couponing, let alone extreme couponing! You save tons of money and some families have to coupon because they cant afford an avaerage grocery bill.
They don't actually shop like that normally. When they shop they actually get the same amount that a normal person does but instead of all cash they use coupons. Honestly the store makes more money off of couponers then normal shoppers because not only do they get the price of the coupon but they also get a handling fee from the manufacturer. The show just shows what CAN be done if you do it right. NOT what is NORMALLY done. Plus as some pointed out already they donate ALOT of the extra.

Not all of them are crazy. Some women are just smart, and want to save money. If a woman doesn't have a job, and she wants to help her family by saving money, she can clip coupons as her "full time job". The people that get on to these shows are just showing extreme versions of this. They aren't cheating the system...they are simply being smart and using it to their advantage.

Apparently I'm passionate about this, too. YES, people ARE starting to do this based on the show. People that I KNOW. It's scary. People on Facebook are like, "I started couponing!!! Gotta get clippin'!" And they have pictures of their coupon binders on Facebook and they post status updates about how they spent 6 hours clipping and printing coupons today. OK, I get you want to save money, but are you crazy?
I've seen that show on TV. Plus it on the news too. That was crazy. BIG TIME. So many transactions. Plus about 5,10 or more shopping carts to the car. With the employees help. I don't know what to think but .... wow. This is what some people do for real. If they are going to use all those items up, so be it. It would be a problem it they don't use i at all. They could give some to the people who really need these products which that is awesome. This is extreme savings for these folks.
It isn't abusing the system because when you use a manufacturer coupon, the manufacturer has to re-emburse the store for the discount given. If you buy an item for $5.00 and have a half off manufacturer coupon then your total is $2.50......the manufacturer has to pay the store the $2.50 that they lost on that product. So unless someone uses a coupon issued by the store, then the store isn't losing in money, but I don't agree in buying thousands of items that you are never going to use.
These people are brilliant. It's not abusing the system, they're actually smart about their money. I'm sure you'd be pretty happy if you bought 3 carts of groceries and only paid for a frozen pizza.

the grocery store doesn't lose any money when they do that. when a produce goes on sell at the store its not the store making the sell its the main head quarters place making the sell. uhh if that made any send like the gatorade company has to pay the store for the sell.. the 60cents that they save the gatorade company pays that money back to the store.

for example, 1 palette of gatorade a store gets, lets say theres 1,000 bottles on a bulk order, the store will probably get it for $200, but sell each one for $3, meaning $3,000 they make from selling them, thats a $2,800 profit

I saw one episode where the woman actually dug through her neighbors' recycling bins in an attempt to find more coupons. When she finally went to the store, she was buying absurd amounts of stupid things like 96 bottles of hot sauce. You're never gonna use that much hot sauce. She had over $1200 in groceries, but she had so many coupons, she actually ended up with $60 in store credit. It's absolutely ridiculous. Abusing the system is correct.

Those shows hurt a lot of people..they actually create extreme situations & then lead people to believe there are all these crazy people, etc. I use a lot of coupons, companies PAY to use those coupons. And I too, donate a lot. Those shows have given a lot of people a very unfair & very unreal name..& in case you haven't noticed../the economy is crap. People need all the help they can get.

i saw this one episode where the total price was a little over $3000 and with all the coupons the store ended up giving her about $50. Imagine getting payed $50 to shop! But most of these extreme couponers donate a lot of the things they get to local charities so I think thats really nice :) however i think its a little selfish when some of them buy things they dont need and dont even donate. but i think couponing is such a great idea, except it seems like a lot of work :( love that show!

You dont sound passionate you sound jealous. I have watched ever episode of this show and you are totally blowing every thing out of proportion and exaggerating just a little bit. So hopefully folks will use their own brain and watch the show for themselves. I for one have been galvanized into action by this store not as a way to have a "grocery store in my basement" but to donate to people who need those items as do most of the people on that show. and yes there are men who coupon.

They don't actually shop like that normally. When they shop they actually get the same amount that a normal person does but instead of all cash they use coupons. Honestly the store makes more money off of couponers then normal shoppers because not only do they get the price of the coupon but they also get a handling fee from the manufacturer. The show just shows what CAN be done if you do it right. NOT what is NORMALLY done. Plus as some pointed out already they donate ALOT of the extra.

I'm sorry, but, I really like you and all but my mom does this. She's a single parent with one income. This is actually SMART it's not crazy. Don't say she has too much time on her hands, because she's busy and works her butt off EVERY DAY and we still have bills and the cost of food and clothes and everything else. If you could save $1000's of dollars a month by doing this, you would. So keep an open mind, because it's smart. not ridiculous. Also, my mom is not a hoarder, either. Love you :) <3

Wow I live in germany, and even here I have heard about that there was a report on TV about these families who live in the US and it was crazy! like one woman should pay $1,300 and then she handed all her cupons and had to pay $5 it was CRAZY!
like it took her about 4 hours to get all of that stuff and she said that most her food, she doesnt even have to pay for!
I wish I could live in america here in Germany we dont even have cupons haha :D

Not all of them are crazy. Some women are just smart, and want to save money. If a woman doesn't have a job, and she wants to help her family by saving money, she can clip coupons as her "full time job". The people that get on to these shows are just showing extreme versions of this. They aren't cheating the system...they are simply being smart and using it to their advantage.

@MiissGabiiX Grocery stores "double coupons to the dollar" to create customer loyalty only some stores do this so you have to check policys and stuff
An example of this is say, you have a coupon for 30cents off ketchup, they double it up to 60cents
but no higher doubled than a dollar
so say if you have a coupon for 60cents off mustard (instead of doubling to 1.20 off) they only go up to $1.00
idk if this made sense, but thats basically how it works

I've seen that show on TV. Plus it on the news too. That was crazy. BIG TIME. So many transactions. Plus about 5,10 or more shopping carts to the car. With the employees help. I don't know what to think but .... wow. This is what some people do for real. If they are going to use all those items up, so be it. It would be a problem it they don't use i at all. They could give some to the people who really need these products which that is awesome. This is extreme savings for these folks.

It isn't abusing the system because when you use a manufacturer coupon, the manufacturer has to re-emburse the store for the discount given. If you buy an item for $5.00 and have a half off manufacturer coupon then your total is $2.50......the manufacturer has to pay the store the $2.50 that they lost on that product. So unless someone uses a coupon issued by the store, then the store isn't losing in money, but I don't agree in buying thousands of items that you are never going to use.

the grocery store doesn't lose any money when they do that. when a produce goes on sell at the store its not the store making the sell its the main head quarters place making the sell. uhh if that made any send like the gatorade company has to pay the store for the sell.. the 60cents that they save the gatorade company pays that money back to the store.

The reason why they freak out over a 3 dollar difference, is that they spend time trying to get their total, tons of math, it's like if you were taking a math test and you were so determined to get an 100, but you get a 90. even if you put so much time and studying into that test, and you got something less than what you wanted, or whatever- you'd get embarrassed, however, I do think it is a little ridiculous that they would freak out over that,

for example, 1 palette of gatorade a store gets, lets say theres 1,000 bottles on a bulk order, the store will probably get it for $200, but sell each one for $3, meaning $3,000 they make from selling them, thats a $2,800 profit

I saw one episode where the woman actually dug through her neighbors' recycling bins in an attempt to find more coupons. When she finally went to the store, she was buying absurd amounts of stupid things like 96 bottles of hot sauce. You're never gonna use that much hot sauce. She had over $1200 in groceries, but she had so many coupons, she actually ended up with $60 in store credit. It's absolutely ridiculous. Abusing the system is correct.
