  • I've never heard this version of this great song, excellent thanks :-)

  • tim hart is a knight in shining armor

  • there's another version sung by Maddy Prior

  • RIP Tim Hart

  • Peter Knight was a brilliant fiddle player

  • I love Steeleye Span and this song is one of their best! Thanks for posting!

  • What is the stringed instrument that accompanies from the very beginning? Is it a dulcimer?

  • @ToujoursLAmour,

I can hear an electric guitar, a bass and a violin in there. I don't think there's a dulcimer, either lap or hammer, but I could be wrong.

  • Yeah, I think you're right. It could just be a nice, clean guitar.

  • @ToujoursLAmour I think it's Martin Carthy on electric guitar. He once said that the big mistake he made with it was trying to play it in the same manner as the acoustic guitar. I think those first measures here are what he was talking about. Still a great song, and well done, too.

  • This is not, as one might first suspect an example of Medieval Adolescent Conduct Disorder.

The False Knight is the Devil and the Wee Boy is a good Christian who counters each of the Devil's conundrums with one of his own, albeit in a rather cheeky fashion.

These Olde Parables are such fun. :-)

  • @Pangael a good song thanks

  • More than that, the devil is trying to lure the boy into a trap. Answer incorrectly and he'll be whisked off straight to hell.

  • @KateFan ,

    Yes, quite right!

  • absolutely fantastic piece of music
