I always thought the Ghost and Mrs Muir got married for some reason. I know they had an attraction to each other. Guess I remembered wrong...wouldn't be the first time..lol
You are probably remembering the last show of the series. Carolyn's parents think she is going to elope with Claymore, so they try to plan her wedding - Carolyn sets them straight, and her parents renew their wedding vows instead. Also, the second show of the series has an eloping couple that end up getting married at Gull Cottage by Claymore, Justice of the Peace for Schooner Bay.
As far back as I can remember, I have all way loved the Ghost and Mrs Muir and this wonderful home. I hope that it will come back on TV again. Thank you mmcdermt1 for showing this lovely home.
Actually it is. They used this house to get a few exterior shots (then they added the widow's walk and the Captain's wheel) and they filmed the pilot at the Neal House. You can tell because there are 8 steps leading to the front door - and in all episodes of the show after that, there are only two steps, leading to a porch. That was a set.
@65if2007 Probably spent her entire inheritance and late husband's insurance policy on the house. Of course if we're going by the mythos of the TV show the land lord was a sniveling coward easily intimidated by the ghost that was crushing on Mrs. Muir. He probably eventually was paying her to stay to keep the ghost amused and away from him. :-P
Actually, the rent was very cheap. Claymore Gregg charged her "barely enough rent to cover the taxes." which would be way less than regular rent. This comes up in both the book, the movie, and the TV show. Martha worked for her board and food, so actual salary was actually pretty low.
My mom was a writer and she managed to support herself and all four of us kids! (She didn't look anything like Carolyn Muir, though, or Gene Tierney :-)

How was Mrs. Muir able to afford to rent so much house -- and support two kids, a dog, and a live-in housekeeper -- on a writer's salary?

@65if2007 rents were cheap in the 1960s compared to today-even adjusted for inflation.
