  • Its the name of the Persian king from 1001 Nights.

  • @silvercataphractarii Excuse me, Its the name of his wife who frames the stories of a 1001 arabian nights.

  • Antal Dorati needs to be more widely appreciated; many thanks for posting this, one of the better versions of a work I love very much. I also like Reiner, Beecham, Ansermet, Morton Gould, and Kondrashin in this music.

  • This recording, Doráti's first of 3 different recordings of the work, was with the London PHILHARMONIC, not LSO as stated in your information. All the other 1930s recordings, mainly of ballet music, were with the LPO too. Doráti did not record with the LSO until 1956.

Wilma Cozart was not involved in this first version of the Rimsky work, but was in charge of the 2 later Mercury recordings, both with the Minneapolis Symphony

  • This, by reputation, is the BEST recording of this work ever. I think the recording engineer on this occasion was Wilma Cozart - and you can;t get better that that!

  • Its The Story of the Calender Prince. Right?

    I know the beginning is...?

  • Also I prefer this version to many others. The balance is there as well as the soul in the piece. Lovely.

  • scheherazade was a persian princess ;) in persian: shahrzad..she was the one who told the 1001 nights

  • Scheherazade was never a princess. She was the vizier's daughter who married King Shahryar and became Queen.

  • yes indeed. I think u're right. But anyway it's a persian folklore :)

  • 1001 night is an arabian folklore. It has also another name "Arabian nights"

  • no it's persian. The arabs took it from persian sources and called it arabian. Not only this topic. The arabs copied many persian costumes and called it arabian.

  • هل من سحر للشرق أجمل من شهرزاد

  • I know شهرزاد is Scheherazde, what does the rest mean?

  • lol it means is it the magic and beauty for the East

  • Ah! I was wondering what this song was called! I love it!! ^^

  • What a moving concert!

  • Lovely. Very sweet.

  • Amazing, absolutely amazing... After hearing the marching band version and playing it its nice to hear it classical instead of rough and loud.
