  • Monstrose meets Megadeth!

  • Excellent version, and it really got the rock-n-roll heart pumping. A band I MUST see live.

  • the original album with ronnie and hagar, which i still have, is a great piece of rock. Someone said these guys were underrated and thats probably true. having said that, we got many many good miles out of that album...a keeper

  • first two montrose albums are lost masterpieces

best thing sammy ever did - including his stint with vh

  • Just saw them live, great song and great band.

  • Fantastic. Montrose 1 as has been pointed out was ahead of its time in many ways. Paved the way for Van Halen 1. Hi energy guitar rock. I first heard it '77/'78. Stands the test of time.. Great stuff................

  • i didn't know sammy sang for montrose, i had a montrose album and i think the cover was red. it should have been about 76. this song was on it. along with bad motorscooter, and sammy hagar was on his own, i remembr a song called "red" he was doing at that time. ted nugent, "home bound" and Paris, big town 2061. if you havent heard paris, well, then you haven't heard them.... that's all i'm sayin'. i'm just sayin' you know. panic in detroit, david bowie. rush necromancer. ok, gotta go.

  • Wow, sounds great even without Sammy...great tune.

  • Best w/Sammy. No one could sing like him in 1970's. This singer is rather American Idol. Not so good. Denny Carmassi, who went on to play w/Heart was also great drummeralong w/ Bill Church on bass. The Electric Church. Check out Montrose's 80's band GAMMA. They could rock.

  • 12 dislikes???...Really???....pfft!

  • Nice! The singer does a great job - makes me not mind that Sammy isn't there.

  • EPIC!

  • @rockman...cool dude, ronnie was one of my biggest influences when i was young...thanks for shooting the video, it's a gas to watch brother!!

  • one of the most under-rated, unknown guitar gods of all time...ronnie, if ya read this, know that some of us got it dude.,..namaste!!

  • @666pinkster oh ya - Grew up on Ronnie - he let me film this - was great talking with him too- Nice guy. Hope i get to see him again. - thanks for the post!

  • @666pinkster great guitarist and thanks ronnie for the lesson i wouldnt be where i am today if not for gtarists like you when i was growing up

  • SLF - Suspect Device intro! 0.47 secs

    Love it.

  • Total Classic.

  • Ask Ronnie why he treated Sammy like an asshole. He wanted another singer. Great move there Ronnie.

  • Almost makes me want to grow my hair long and smoke dope!

  • Where can you get this DVD?

  • Where can you get this DVD?

  • einfach nur geil

  • PAPER MONEY, the complete rock album. Every song is 5 star rated... This rock Lp should be one of the most important albums ever, instead it is one Lp among other great Lp... Sorry..coulndt help myself. Had to say that...MONTROSE Lp was an early hard rock album wich was a Lp a couple years before itself... people wasnt ready...

  • @streetpoet62 tru that!

  • @streetpoet62 Montrose Lp ...............don't know about you but I was ready .....and so were many in the Bay Area.

  • @streetpoet62 .so true !!!

  • I can't beleive how clear this video and sound are... for 1973 and the Catalyst... Nice..

  • @btkunz heh - wasn't '73 - I shot this in '07 .. or was it '08 - anyway- it's recent compared to '73 :-) thanks for the post!

  • @RocmanUSA haha... did this guy really think this was '73? Montrose is bald!!!????

  • I can't beleive how clear this video and sound are... for 1973 and the Catalyst... Nice..

  • @btkunz Wow Hagars Grandson is KiLLeR!

  • @btkunz Eeehh...dude... It isnt 1973... If you take a look at Ronnies face you will see how old he is in the video...

I would guess the video has beem done around the year of 2005-2007. You should have a little more attention...maybe you could smoke less... :-D

  • That is a scale model of Deep Space 9 ..

  • Catalyst!!!! Yeah!!!!

What a show that must have been. I missed it. I lived only 30 mile away.

    Great no matter.

Know what. This guy (keith) is shaken! He has it. I like it. Sammy was such an ass. I met him in 71' what a stuck up prig! I saw Sammy do his 1st show after leaving Montrose, I liked it but not the same. What a MALE member!

  • Catalyst!!!! Yeah!!!!

What a show that must have been. I missed it. I lived only 30 mile away.

    Great no matter.

  • Saw Montrose in Syracuse NY in the mid-1970s in a club. A band called Wale led off and it was some night. Ronnie looked like he was melded to the guitar. He looks a little more casual now. Absolutely great rock-n-roll.

  • Keith over Sammy?!?!? No Way!!! Let's see where Keith is when he's 62!

  • Great video! Youngster ani't too bad.....Of course Sammy is the fucking best!

  • @pkrwd: It is hard to watch it, though. I know when I watched performances of Make it Last with the new singer, I am thinking in the back of my head, "That should be Sammy singing it!"

  • Keith kicks Sammy's ass. Also does not seem to have the Huge Ego.

  • @nahershey good vocals...but kicks hagars ass!?!?!?!?? dude hardly moved on stage at all.. hagar is the original vocalist anyway.... too bad you don't like him... your at a loss.

  • Sammy Hagar is the man !!! No one can replace him . Good try though .

  • Go cuzzzzzz! Remember harmonizing to Pyromania in Rocky Point when we were kids?

  • Billy Squire on vocals?

  • Ronnie Montrose - cancer survivor - think about that.

  • Ronnie's tone is great! Never realized how much that riff sounds like Communication Breakdown...

  • wow 10 people was so drunk they hit dislike accidently lol

  • Ellefson from Megadeth played with Montrose...wow, I never knew!!!

  • i got more vid from this show.. ask Ronnie to let me post it

  • @RocmanUSA dude we need ALL vid of this show , this was montrose at their best BY FAR . back in 70's this was thee rocket fuel in my neighboorhood here outside detroit . montrose montrose album an all time top ten rock album . this singer here TOTALLY CRUSHES sammy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, Keith has such a great voice. I always love watching him perform ;)

  • singer does a great job

  • Freakin' A !!!

  • Yeah I Don't Think Any Of You Know What The F><K Your Talking About.

  • Just imagine how great they would have been if their lead singer was David Lee Roth!

  • @brad3378 NO very wrong , thank you but these guys were kicking it way before D.L.R. was ever thought of. All though he is the machine in Van Halen

  • @brad3378 But their singer is Keith and he's 100x better! ;)

  • Black leather pants are so 80s

  • Awesooome, THANKS for clip !

  • Its so badass to see Dave Ellefson playing with Montrose !!

  • Kick ass wind up there at the end. Love how Ronnie's so into it he loses his balance and recovers on the kick drum. Ronnie's a GOD!!!

  • This drummer is awesom...Like Ted McKenna but more elegant....

  • Are theese guys still active? Cuz god dam....Just listen to the drummer...For fuck´s sake...It´s suttle but it´s there 4 thoose that know how to listen,,,

  • The lead singer does a pretty good Sammy impersonation, I must say.

  • @drewbacsi no sammi does a great keith st john inpression

  • This drummer doesnt even know the breaks,,, HE SUCKS!!!! Bring on the santa cruz Bear,,,,,I mean this guy sucks,, his drums sound like shit,,, and has no soul,,, Typical pit garbage drummer,,,,sorry bro, but you suck!

  • @aliamshala Sorry sister!!We only take inputs from men here...

  • @aliamshala So i visited your site.... your like a premature on crack!!

Do you even know who Mr Mc Kenna is? Or Mr Schenker for that matter? Your no drummer...your nothing but a "she´s a hitter and a thief"

Name the movie this line is taken or dissapear from here forever girl...

  • @aliamshala

Your arab right? Only humans aka non camelshitdust get´s to cast a vote arround here.

If u didn´t have that oil you wouldn´t have...well you woud´t have nothing but more hores than you have grains of sand. You arabs are the "missing" link. A link that will lead you monkeys to an absolut hell....

  • Keith St. John does a spectacular job singing on this song!! And Ronnie is...well, Montrose...

  • Who is this singer & what bands did he play in? Ronnie Montrose looks old enough to be his dad - lol.

Was this guy in a now-disbanded emo group from the past decade called Vendetta Red?

  • Fantastic.Brilliant vocals.

  • Fantastic.

  • St John steps into a big pair of shoes and fills them very nicely.

  • いやぁ~、モントローズってご健在でしたんやね~。感動やわぁ。

    しかもカッコよくなってるし!!

  • RAVEN did an unbelievably kick-ass cover of this tune on their "Walk Through Fire" album, HIGHLY recommended - I'm not seeing it on YouTube yet, but check it out if at all possible!

  • @davey4557..man, I couldn't agree more..especially at 319. just about made my ears bleed on that one.

  • BAD ASS!!!!

  • 3:50 gave me chicken-skin.

i saw montrose with ufo and foghat back in the day.

i wore out montrose and papermoney records.

    tg 4 CDs, now.

  • that singer is as flat as piss on a plate

  • THe Catalyst! Been kicked out of there a few times.......

  • @KranksterOnMaui ur doing it RIGHT! :-)

  • Nice nice nice brought back some fantastic memories of 1974 wow!!!! One of my all time favorite tunes.

    Vector6787

  • Who is that singer? Reminds me of a cross between Sammy Hagar and Billy Squire.

  • I saw montrose live and I've seen 15,000 Hp Top Fuel dragsters go past me at full throttle and when they played this song I swore that there was never a sound so loud as that night

  • This man was too humble.Never made a koud cry. kike Derringer who caught maybe more attention

  • When was this? Boy, does this bring back memories.

This band is clean, clean, clean. Singer is just great-gotta be better

than Sammy. Drummer is great. This is just an all around great sound .

Go Ronnie. Remmember listening to this in 1974- one of my all time favorite

bands. This singer could go against anybody - and win!! Such an awesome re-incarnation of Montrose. Love it. Now I gotta go get some Montrose on CD.

  • thats an amazin lineup

  • Why did they disband after only two years? Think of all the endless possibilities that could've happened if they stuck together.

  • Can't get enough of Montrose. '73 debut album produced by Ted Templeman is among the top 5 rock records ever made, in my opinion, 8 songs, all outstanding!

  • @bluescat59 ...agreed....I remember falling out of my chair first time I heard "Bad Motor Scooter" on the radio....A favorable review at the time said that Montrose was "America's answer to Led Zeppelin"....

  • Not Bad.

  • Insane. The old man has it.

  • Bad ass drummer, well shit the whole band rips it!!!!

  • WOW! Great updated, slightly-rearranged version of the original....Ronnie's still in great form on his axe & Keith does a fantastic job of filling Sammy's shoes. This really knocked me out!

  • The most under-rated band of all time.

  • Shit, this was a such a stoner song! A bunch of us in the 80's sitting around totally wasted on Columbian Gold, maybe some hash...

  • yupthis is the best Fuck these candy ass bitches of the 80's and 90's

    rock is dead now

  • The Montrose album from 73 is definitely on of the best hard rock albums of all time. Not a bad cut in the bunch and Denny Carmassi had a great drum sound.

  • @61SG Agreed.

  • Monster

  • if yu have ever heard the album ..

Montrose from 73 ..LOUD!!! yes, absolutely one of the very BEST rockers ever!..Sammy Hagar's fantastic vocals..i LOVE the entire album..ya, i'm old, but still lovin and appreciating it!

  • Awesome, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.......Takes me back 34 years.....Crap, I can't be that old!

  • This is pretty cool. Awesome playing.

  • Too much 'THINK'can get you a headache,and makes you bald,Ronnie;]

GREAT performance from Keith St.John ,he had me fooled for a few minutes, that it was actualy Hagar here.

  • I thought it was Hagar at his best ever until I read your comment. He's better than Hagar, not that it's hard to do... Van Halen should hire this dude.

  • @badjesus666 "He's better than Hagar, not that it's hard to do" dude I hate Van Hagar but I would NEVER dis Sammy, especially his work w/Montrose. He and Ronnie together wrote some of the baddest rock ever invented. Kieth St. John does a good job here, in fact this is a tremendous interpretation of this song (one of my favorite Montrose tunes) but lets face it, Keith isn't qualified to carry Sammy's gear bag

  • @PAULLONDEN your stupid to say that loser

  • this is pure roc n roll right here! Ronnie Montrose is the and will always have the #1 spot 4pure fingering guitar playing ROC N ROLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

  • nice vid. loved Montrose's work here and with Gamma, still listen to it. glad it was released on cds, as the albums all got worn out

  • nice one, thanx!

  • Great sound!! Great song!!

    KICKS ASS

  • Jimmy Degrasso on Drums !!!! Awesome !!!!

  • Yep. It's funny that both Jimmy and Dave Ellefson played with Megadeth

  • SUPERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Thanks for putting this up, saw these way back in the early 70's along with loads of other bands including 'The Who' at Charlton scoccer stadium in S.E London England,

  • Ronnie Montrose has to be THE most under-rated guitarist in rock history .

this vid sounds great Ronnies just as bad assed as ever !this album is in my top Ten best rock albums ever .with UFO obsessions and other greats.Rock ON RONNIE AND CO.

  • Well done ! - Nice to hear this brilliant song again

  • The drummer id definitely into it. Watch him twirl his stick between 4:30 - 4:35

  • This is definitely what rock-n-roll is all about! Definitely my favorite You-tube video. Does anyone know here to get this on CD?

  • One of the greatest rock songs of all time

  • w/o Hagar ....... ????

  • Thank you Ronnie for coming to Sacramento October 2nd and making my 40th b-day the best I ever had!!!! Love you always and forever my man.

  • my dad brought me up listening to this album...i was born in 81! thanks pops! what a fucking education and i've still got the vinyl. awesome band!

  • That riff sounds as sonic as it did when it came out.Love this song.

  • I saw Montrose at the CATALYST IN 1980, I Cant believe its still there!! Awesome!

  • Keith has a great voice- better than Sammy...

  • Boo,

    I'm better.

  • Awesome. Always a fan of Montrose. Saw him in St Paul in 1978? at the Roy Wilkins. No vocals, post Sammy. Montrose opened, then a little band called Van Halen, then the lead act Journey, pre-Perry. Left during the Journey set. After seeing Ronnie and Eddie VH...just wow!

  • Love the bird chirpy sounds!!

  • sweet

  • one of the best rock songs of all time. Yeah, better with Sammy but Ronnie's guitar is the sh&% so 21sandogface, get over it fooilo. Out.

  • it suck without sammie on lead

  • i have the original 45, one side mono/2nd side stero in my juke at home

  • When Haggar sang with them, they rocked like no other band during their heyday.. My all time favorite song!

  • Oh Yeah !!!!!

  • does anyone know the name of the girl drummer who toured wuth ronnie montrose in the early 90's?

  • i dont know her name but i did meet her.. they played a bar in aurora ,ill called Malo's i was there in the afternoon after work,, and they were doing a soundcheck......and she needed sticks.. and i took her and Ronnie to the music store around the corner from the club. she said she usually had her stix fed ex'd to her... but she was broke and Ronnie bought em for her.. tiny lil thing.. but they made sure she had a big sound..she played on a John bonham set orange see thru vistalite kit

  • sounds good but no the one i was hopeing for

  • doesnt sound live to me

  • Perfekt

  • I am afraid this is a goddamn rock song

  • indeed!!!

  • Completely and totally a ripper for ALL-TIME!

I've yet to figure out the damn words to this one but I really don't give a crap. The driving rhythm and smokin' riff propell this like a sweaty horse at full gallop

  • I knew that was Dave Ellefson

  • where is space station number 5

  • the red rocker

  • Great rendition
