If you go to Shadow Moses Island as Snake and repeatedly tap the down taunt, eventually one Mei Ling, Colonel, or Otacon will give you a summary of the character (or characters) you're facing.
all you have to do is go to the shadow moses island level play as snake. and keep pressing the taunt button. I personally do it in circles it takes a while to do. but snake will crouch or duck down into his conversation position. he talks about each character differently.
