London of today is totally different, when i was growing in the 1960's we had many black people arriving which made London colourful and different. Now with the Muslims arriving it's changed into a horrible place, it wasn't black people who changed London for the worst it's the Muslims!
I don't understand what everyone is talking about, this footage clearly shows a wealthy area of london where some areas are still like this. It doesn't show the squalor and poverty that London also had at this period. In the 50's and many years before, throughout Londons long history there had been adverse poverty. Look back at history-look at all the caracatures from the 19th century, most of what you will find is not pleasant-children starving etc. so infancy london has improved vastly.
Beautiful. Great film. And look at it now. Large parts are a ghetto and look like a foreign country full of people who hate us. People like Blair and his kind should be brought to trial for treason.

Recognised High St Ken, used to live just up the top end of Church St, frequented the Central Library on Hornton St, 25 to 30 years ago. It was still pretty decent even then. Not sure about now of course, dress code's gone right down the pan these days for one thing, and how a chap dresses says an awful lot about how he is on the inside. Smart, not slovenly. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could wake up one morning and find it like this again?

@Rick88888888 The film opens on Hammersmith Road, heading East. The impressive brick building on the left at 0:01 is "The Swan" Pub, built in 1900. (See Google images). It was built on the site of the original "Old Swan Coaching House" which dated from the 1700's. Fortunately, this pub is still standing and remains busy & largely unchanged to this day. Sadly however, almost all of the surrounding architecture in this section of film up to 1:14 has now been lost to modern redevelopment.

@josseruk The footage from 2:19-2:27 is a bomb site! That's now all been rebuilt. The first building (with the white awnings) you see at 3.26 is now a Tesco Metro. The camera comes to a halt outside 14 Upper Phillimore Gardens, which still has that glass awning over its entrance. It was on the market last year for £15.5 million!

Looks more like a pleasant American town, presumably its a wealthier part of London? I'd prefer to live in London of the 50's than now, it just looks more peaceful and the people far more chilled out. Big cars, lovely houses, we are told that we have it so much better nowadays, not so sure myself.

Just found this and my first and main impression is how clean the streets look. That may be because the definition is not clear enough. Looks more like a pleasant American town, presumably its a wealthier part of London? I'd prefer to live in London of the 50's than now, it just looks more peaceful and the people far more chilled out. Big cars, lovely houses, we are told that we have it so much better nowadays, not so sure myself.

Just found this and my first and main impression is how clean the streets look. That may be because the definition is not clear enough. I can't believe every street they drove down could be that clean - mind you I did see several street sweepers! I was in Upper Street Islington today where they drive mechanical wheeled vehicles on the pavements with spinning circular sweepers on the front but there were still cigarette butts and stuff everywhere. I think we can get back to how it was if we try!

Fast forward to 2011. The streets are covered with takeaways, all the shops are either fabric shops or travel agents for the middle east. On Friday the streets are used for prayers. You have gangs from eastern europe who go around begging. Gangs from north Africa who beileve that gang rape is alright. Women walking around with their face covered. Then I'm less certain, but I think Brompton Road, then Cromwell Road.
This is all in Kensington & Chelsea by the way if you're not from London.
