  • Thank you Lakers for one good championship run.

  • The 1972 Lakers played their best TEAM basketball. It's the ONLY time they played team ball until showtime. Thank you Bill Sharman for teaching the LA prima donnas team ball

  • The 1972 Lakers played their best TEAM basketball. It's the ONLY time they played team ball until showtime.

  • The ONLY time the Knicks were actually good LOLLLL

  • East Side West Side

  • Great season you always hear about Willis Reed playing with a bad leg but to me Wilt playin with his wrist sprain is Classic!!!

  • Dang, away crowds giving standing ovations? you surely don't see that anymore. Chamberlain = one of the best centers to ever play

  • R.I.P. Wilt Chamberlain

  • @Davaadie when did he die?

  • @VakhosGr 1999, died of heart failure

  • And who bounced back to win the NBA Championsdip in 1974?(Celtics)

What team has gone down 4 GAMES TO ZERO 3 THREE TIMES in the finals(Lakers)?

THE CELTICS HAVE NEVER LOST A FINALS SERIES 4 games tio zero. NEVER.

That Lakers team that won 33 games straight that they brag about were coached by Celtics great Bill Sharman..LOL

  • @ch501ris Yes, Ex-Celtic Great Bill Sharman did coach that 1972 Lakers Team, and later became General Manager of the Lakers before Jerry West. The L.A. Boy from Southern Cal came back to his hometown. And before he started coaching the Lakers in 1972, he also coached the ABA Los Angeles Stars to the ABA Finals back in 1970. And if I'm not mistaken, another "Ex-Celtic Great" was Bill Sharman's Assistant Coach back in 1972 by the name of K.C. Jones.

  • @Jiltedin2007 Ya and KC coached the 1984 Celtics to beat the Lakers...lol

  • @ch501ris And the Lakers got revenge on that defeat in 1985, and kicked some more Green Ass in 1987.

  • @Jiltedin2007 1986..The Lakers who were big favorites seemed headed for an NBA Finals rematch with the Celtics, who had ripped through the Eastern Conference with a 67-15 record. The Celtics lost only one game en route to the Finals, but the Lakers failed to hold up their part of the bargain. losing to Houston going down 1-4.

    Have a nice day..LATER

  • @ch501ris Upsets do happen, and that's what was the motivation the Lakers needed to go 65-17 and steamroll through the Western Conference. Once they faced the Celtics in the NBA Finals, the Lakers beat them like they weren't there! The only 2 wins the Celtics got in that series were both in Boston.

    Talk to you later.

  • @Jiltedin2007 1973 Lakers go down 1-4 again losing 4 straight to N Y Knicks

  • @ch501ris Funny, you should mention the New York Knicks. And especially how I know how much you Hardcore Bostonians hate anything New York.

  • @Jiltedin2007 We love New York especially the knicks who have only made the playoffs 1 time since 01 and finished under .500 and lost 4 games straight to New Jersey. The knicks haven't even had a winning record since 01 . I love that song New York,New York...lol

"Start spreading the news I’m leaving today

I want to be a part of it, New York, New York"

    - Frank Sinatra

  • @ch501ris I just blocked you Ass, Cocksucker! You want to send me garbage, and block me from replying? FUCK YOU ASSHOLE! I love New York too!

  • @Jiltedin2007 Block U???

  • @Jiltedin2007 you need help

  • @Jiltedin2007 u need help ya sick bitch

  • 1973-Knicks over favored Lakers winning games 2,3,4,and 5 ..4 straight games..

Game 1 Tue. May 1 Los Angeles Lakers 115 - New York Knicks 112 at Los Angeles

Game 2 Thu. May 3 New York Knicks 99 - Los Angeles Lakers 95 at Los Angeles

Game 3 Sun. May 6 New York Knicks 87 - Los Angeles Lakers 83 at New York

Game 4 Tue. May 8 New York Knicks 103 - Los Angeles Lakers 98 at New York

Game 5 Thu. May 10 New York Knicks 102 - Los Angeles Lakers 93 at Los Angeles

    Knicks win series 4-1

  • @13war25 And who did the New York Knicks beat in the Eastern Conference Championship to face the Lakers in the 1973 NBA Finals? Think about that one for a while before you come on a Lakers Video and talk your Celtic Shit.

  • It's just too bad that the Pathetic Celtics had to have the shit beat out of them by New York. How I would've loved for this 1972 team to kill those Green Bastards!

  • on the scoreboard.... REBOUNDING WILT HAS 22.......

  • The 1972 Lakers might still be the greatest team of all time

  • @ErikS1975FreeState

As a lifelong Lakers fan, I hate to say it but I really think this team was only... #4

#1 67 Sixers (chamberlain, cunningham, jackson, greer walker overwhelming skills that magical season)

#2 97 Bulls (MJ, Pippen Rodman, PJackson)

    #3 62 Celtics

    #4 72 Lakers

    #5 94 Bulls

Great case for Showtime lakers, 86 Celtics, 2002 shaq-kobe lakers but to me those might be top 5. Saw them all cept 62 Celtics but I'm basing it on some good references

1972 Lakers my favorite tho!! Wilt!

  • @Vstrat0

The Shaq-Kobe Lakers don't belong on the list they didn't have the talent or depth & played in an era without great teams that stand the test of time.

I have the 72 and 87 Lakers as the best ever and you could argue which one is better. But I would also consider the 83 76ers, 86 Celtics, 96 Bulls, 93 Bulls and one of the Celtics teams from the 60's.

The reason why I have the 72 and 87 Lakers is because they were both great Offensive and Defensive teams with great players and Coaches.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState Interesting.

Chamberlain takes knocks like "no wonder he did so good, the league was weak back then." But if the league was so weak how come nobody else did what he did? If it was so easy, why didn't somebody come along and dominate like nobody else in history did , before or since?

    FACT: Wilt = GOAT

You can still see his ghost on this 72 team after a broken knee

Nobody else could sweep boards, score, or take over games the way he did. NOBODY. He was the whole package.

  • @Vstrat0

If Wilt had to play in the same era as Kareem going up against guys like Bob Lanier, Dave Cowens, Artis Gilmore, Moses Malone, Bill Walton before he got hurt, Bob Love, Wes Unseld etc, do you think Wilt would've been as dominant?

  • @ErikS1975FreeState LMAO "MY MAN" !!!

Bob Lanier, 6'10", 270, one of the hugest men anywhere, filled out a questionnaire recently that asked him to cite the most memorable moment in his entire athletic career. Lanier wrote: "When Wilt Chamberlain lifted me up and moved me like a coffee cup so he could get a favorable position."

Check out wilt@kansas video search on wilt schooling artis gilmore

    Oh MY

check out 72 WCF standing ovation the crowd gave #13 after crushing KAJ - THE BUCKS CROWD

  • @Vstrat0

So is that a yes or a no? Would Wilt be as dominant if he had to play in the era of Great Big Man? Kareem and Moses had to play against an All Star caliber Big Man almost every game. Wilt was one of like three All Star Big Man of his era.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState Sorry answer was "Wilt DID dominate EVERY NAME you had - some of them utter destruction. Try names from a later era."

Moses Malone was great, outside shooter, could drive and bound. Wilt 59-69 would have demolished him. Totally. Dream in the best two years of his career played at LAKER Wilt's level - when his knee was ruined.

Did you watch this guy play in his prime? Or just some footage.

Wilt = GOAT does that answer? No one is even close to his great years.

  • @Vstrat0

I figured you thought that I just wanted to hear you say it instead putting words in your mouth.

If you judge a player just by the numbers he puts up and not by the level of competition he played in or what effect his stats had on his team's success. Then your missing at least 1/2 the picture.

Kareem and Mosses dominated in the best era of Big Man that the NBA has ever seen. Thats the difference and Kareem has 6 NBA Finals Championships to show for it.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState yeah I figured you thought that I just wanted to hear you say it instead of putting words in your mouth.

doesn't matter what level the competition is. If Kobe showed up on our court, you know he'd jack our worlds. He's the best player today no matter whether he plays against you, me, or Rondo.

If you think Cowens, Malone, Issel, Parish & Lambeer were > Thurmond, Russell, Bellamy, Jim Fox & Willis Reed well you just need to watch more old film. They weren't.

  • @Vstrat0

Those weren't the big man I mentioned and you know it. The guys I mentioned are all in the Hall of Fame. Thats the difference its just about whether you dominate or not but who dominate and how much the games mattered. Kareem and Moses dominated Playoff Series as well as the NBA Finals when everything is on the line plus in the Regular Season. Thats different then dominating teams that don't even make the Playoffs or guys who couldn't play in Kareem's or Moses's era.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState sorry? u said Lanier, Cowens, Artis G, Malone, Walton - and like i said, Wilt stomped lanier, cowens, gilmore plenty good even when he was a lame laker.

And like I said, Moses was great, but he couldn't handle #13 before he broke his knee.

U back to playoffs? If you don't wanna trust my memory cuz I watched him from 67 on, ok. OK go read in SI vault. I mean Sports Illustrated website. Will you believe it if you read what he did in playoffs from that reputable magazine?

  • @Vstrat0

I'm not denying that Wilt was a great player I'm just saying that era he played in the worst era for Big Man overshadows his accomplishments and I don't think you can dispute that.

The era that Kareem and Mosses faced adds to their accomplishments because of the level of competition that they faced. I mean Kareem was a 6 time NBA Champion and MVP plus NBA Finals MVP for crying out loud and he accomplished that in the best era for Big Man the game has ever seen. You can't deny that.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState

    Ronald Taylor: 7'1"

    Nate Thurmond: 6'11"

    Walt Wesley: 6'11"

Many of those gents are HOF. It's easy to knock Wilt when most of those guys are totally unknown by ESPN & Fox news. e.g. Bellamy was rookie of year career 19ppg 20K rebounds, 5 time allstar who would school most Cs in the league right now. I don't think he could hang with the elite, Gasol, Howard, Perkins, but he would be up there. Strong, could run, good defense - he is lost in the mist before national TV.

  • @Vstrat0

Since you never met me it takes a big ego to say what I know or don't know, you simply don't.

Saying that the guys you mentioned back in the 60's would do well today isn't saying much because their aren't many great Centers left. The game has evolved from a Big Man game to a Swing Man game. The NBA premier era for Centers was from the late 60's to the mid 90's or so where most Championship Contenders had an All Star caliber Center.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState Now that is true. Not many Cs in the league and most that are really play forward.

No intention of saying what you know or not, but its evident in your posts that yer not familiar with 60s NBA. For example why ask if Wilt would do well against Lanier or Cowens ? Anyone watching 60s NBA saw him smack those guys down,

Ergo, suggesting 60s Cs weren't that great without knowing their games, must be a stretch of imagination.

I can't see Cowens or Lanier owning Russell either.

  • @Vstrat0

Generally I like debating and discussing on YouTube or I wouldn't be on it with people who at least know what their talking about whether I agree with them on everything or nothing.

I believe you understand the NBA and its great History but the thing I don't like about YouTube is people tend to respond to something that they wanted the other to say to help make their point.

I didn't say Wilt wouldn't of played well or been successful had he played in Kareem's and Moses's era.

  • @Vstrat0

All I asked you do you believe Wilt would've been as dominant had he played in Kareem's and Moses's era the premier era for Center's in the NBA instead of going up against guys on a Regular Basis not every night who would probably be playing Small Forward today? If you don't want to answer fine.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState which I answered in detail but I'll just agree with West & Baylor who both worked in the NBA thru the entire 50 years - #13 would be tops in every era.

All I asked was - If you don't know the 60s league - which your posts make it evident that you dont - how can you compare it to the 80s or 90s? If ya don't want

to answer fine. Wilt made everyone around him look weak.

I agree totally about youtube... world's greatest website!! but not great venue for real conversation

  • @Vstrat0

I kinda figured you thought Wilt would dominate in any era but I wanted to hear that from you. Of course we'll never know for sure but we do know that Kareem and Moses dominated in the premier era for Big Man that the NBA has ever seen. Which is one reason why I have Kareem ahead over Wilt and Moses right behind Wilt.

But at least were not debating who's the greatest Center of all time Shaquille O'Neil or Dwight Howard like a couple of Y Generation people.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState LMAO no doubt about that my friend. Altho I do have Shaq up there in top 5 all time... wilt, kareem, dream, malone, shaq probly in that order.

But back to this video - - I'm stuck on 67 Sixers but you might just be right. That 72 Lakers team was the whole package - 33 straight W hard to argue with - longest team streak in history!! And with (sorry) GOAT banging down assists to Mr. Clutch on one side & Jim McMillan on the other - YEAH!

Saw almost every Laker game that year

  • @Vstrat0

How you got Shaq over Bill Russell and Moses I'll never understand. Shaq is the best Center of the 2000's and a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer but thats as much credit as I'm willing to give him.

To me and I think a lot of other people to be a great Center of all time you need to be a great Center on both side of the court. Something Kareem, Wilt, Moses, Russell, Walton, Ewing, Robinson all were. Shaq was a solid Shot Blocker because of his size but a little lazy on defense.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState ??

wilt, kareem, dream, MALONE - as in Moses - and shaq...

I do have Shaq higher than Russell which is probably stupid. And you are truly correct about shaq = lazy / no D.

You reckon I suffer from I-hate-Russell-itis?

LOL I hated those Celtics, man, with a PASSION

  • @Vstrat0

At least your being honest about your bias.

I don't even have Shaq in my Top 10 because he like Wilt he played in a weak era for Big Man where a lot of teams were playing Power Forwards at Center because of the lack of quality Centers. But to back up Wilt, Wilt was a great player on both sides of the court who blocked shots and defended his position.

Some people consider Bill Russell the greatest player who ever played. I disagree with that but he's the greatest defensive Center ever

  • @Vstrat0

The fact is Kareem and Moses dominated the Elite Era for Big Man which adds to their accomplishments because they played the best except for Wilt and Wilt dominated the worst era for Big Man which subtracts from his accomplishments. Dominating a guy who would have the size of a Small Forward today isn't saying much. Or scoring 50 Points in a meaningless game isn't saying much.

Kareem and Moses dominated in the Elite Era when the games mattered most when all the pressure was there.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState My point is, if you don't know the league from that timeframe, how can you compare it to what you DO know? Namely the 80s.

80s was great time for Cs no question. Much like today's game has been molded & shaped by the greatness of MJ - everybody plays like a G - the 80s were the fruit of those 60s Cs.

Imitation sincerest form of flattery? Thus the league which was run and gun until Wilt, became C based. Then MJ appears and now you have a spectacular dunk contest every game.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState And, precisely like everybody is looking for the next Jordan, the league spent 20 years looking for the next Chamberlain.

They never found him, just like they haven't found another MJ.

That is why I still watch the NBA - every season I hope to find some player who can surpass the greatness of those two. There have been some flashes here and there but no one has come close to a '67 Chamberlain nor a 96 Jordan.

Still waiting... still hoping.... HE WILL BE A LAKER!!

  • @ErikS1975FreeState sorry for all the posts but bottom line - you gotta realize that in 60s there were only 8, then 10 teams. Lotta those teams had 10 guys. There were no LAME players. Lotta guys starting today wouldn't make the league back then. One other thing there was no comparison between those eras when you talk about GAME SPEED the 60s was far faster hands down. The game changed in the 70s when the old stars just couldn't run like that anymore. There's no exhibition of stamina today

  • @ErikS1975FreeState Malone a great player dont' get me wrong. But NBA as a whole didn't have better Cs in the 80s than in the 60s. Sorry, it didn't. It had 30 teams, not 8, and most of those guys just wouldn't have made cut in the earlier years - main reason? TOO SLOW

Rings are won by teams not individuals. Period. They are no measure whatsoever of individual greatness.

Is Robert Horry better than AI? Horry 7 rings, Iverson 0

Throwin rings in a talk about players is FOLLY

  • @ErikS1975FreeState Unseld only rookie to get MVP & Rookie MVP (besides #13 that is)... in 68. The great Wes battled Wilt for about 5 years, it varied between overwhelming defeat & crushing humiliation. Wilt just pushed him around.

Ya gotta know Wilt played against all these guys except Malone & Walton - schooled every one of them. Wilt with Lakers was NEVER the same as earlier #13. For him to block the skyhook at 35 with a ruined knee.... none of those guys ever came close to that

  • Yo ginoongkamote, if you wish to improve in basketball, you have to start sticking with a serious training prog. I used the famous training prog here at 50inch vertical[dot]com. I haven t even told this to my high school teammates yet ha

1972 NBA Finals: LA Lakers vs. New York Knicks fqwfxvjennakgvkep oogsdiaxhokeo #ginoongkamote

  • Jerry West, Pat Riley, and a brief cameo of Phil Jackson running off the court. You could say Elgin Baylor was influential going forward, but he got latched on to the dead end wagon of Donald Sterling.

  • Imagine if they let people rush the floor today. How awesome would that be?

  • Wow Pat Riley looked like a kid back then!

  • Adande.

  • jerry west, pat riley, and phil jackson in the same clip 30 years ago. awesome.

  • KNICKS BEAT THE LAKERS 2 OUT OF 3 CHANCES 1970 AND 1973, LAKERS GOT THE 1972 TITLE ! AND THE LAKERS WENT THROUGH PLENTY OF YEARS LOSING TO BOSTON SO L.A. FANS GET READY FOR THESE BITCH ASS HEAT WITH THEIR FAGOT PARTY IN SOUTH BEACH !

RILEY SUCKS,SO DOES THE LAKERS AND THE HEAT, KNICKS ARE BACK JACK...

SCREW THEM FANS IN L.A. AND SOUTH BEACH THAT DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT B-BALL !

  • @Johnnyroeinski You would be ecstatic if D-Wade, LeBron, or Bosh signed with your shitty Knicks squad... Stop being such a crybaby and accept that your franchise is going to have to struggle through another decade of below .500 seasons

    Go HEAT~

  • @tomcat810

this ishnt true,at the wedding of carmelo anthony,cp3 told the audience that in 2011 he,amare and carmelo will form their own big three in the new york knicks!

  • @EnaKoulo which means they'll.... have another decade of below .500 seasons

    Go LAKERS~

  • @Johnnyroeinski Just because you got Amare Stoudamire dosen't mean that you can finally toot your own horn! You guys are almost The Boston Red Sox of Basketball. It's been so long since your Knicks ever won a Championship. Has it been 86 years yet? No, wait. 1973 is just almost 40 years ago. You're nearly halfway there!

  • @Johnnyroeinski lol as if the knicks gonna do shit with amare....and the italian guy.it'd be like the pre- nash suns season in 03. nah actually worst cause theres no matrix.

  • At the 4:54 mark, that's Pat Riley hugging Jerry West that is shown at every commercial break now advertising for the NBA Finals on ABC.

  • ginoongkamote I m only a 5'7 black dude and I am able to dunk in live games. Anyone can do it, you just need to follow the right training program. I used the 1 from 50 inch vertical (dot) com but just about any training program is fine if they work that is... lol

1972 NBA Finals: LA Lakers vs. New York Knicks

  • my god wtfffff. uh ginoongkamote, do you jump high enough to dunk? You need to take a look at this if you can't - 50 inch vertical (dot) com

  • The 1972 Lakers easily 1 of the most Talented Teams in NBA History & perhaps the best team in NBA History.

  • @jessiefisher079

Why don't you and your website go to hell because no one is visting it fucking spammer!

  • ginoongkamote, yo this is OD. That's directly from someone who s the shortest on his team but do windmill dunks. I followed the vertical leap training program over at 50inch vertical[dot]com and increased past 13 inches on my vertical.

1972 NBA Finals: LA Lakers vs. New York Knicks

  • samhinrich26..ch501ris made you look like a fool....

  • Lakers should have defeated New York all three times, plus Boston in 1969.

    Chamberlain was unstoppable at will.

  • But they didn't they won only once and thats because Willis Reed was hurt for most of the year

  • they won couse they were one hell of a team and even willis reed wouldnt help new york .

  • @jerjets11 The Lakers choked. Should have...LMAO

  • @13war25 And where was your pathetic Celtics in 1972? Oh yeah, they got the shit beat out of them by New York! Sucks that the Knicks had to beat us to the punch.

  • @Jiltedin2007 yea..those PATHETIC celtics...who had just won 11 out of the last 14 championships and were soon to win again in '74 and '76.....pathetic !!!!!

  • @taliesen1953 Oh yeah, during a time when the Lakers were in a deep rebuilding mode, those Celtics really "Kicked Ass". Why didn't the Celtics play this 1972 Lakers team? The Lakers would have beaten the shit out of them! NO DOUBT!

  • @Jiltedin2007 ...you can't be serious !! the celtics were kicking the Fakers ass for 25 years untill they finally broke the string in 84......you must be too young to remember year after year of Faker losses to the GREEN........I actually started feeling sorry for West, Baylor, etc........and was happy they finally beat the f''..ing Knicks in this 72 series

  • @taliesen1953 Yes I could be serious! And obviously you must be a Hardcore Bostonian to be hating anything that has to do with New York. The Lakers record 33 Game Winning Streak during the 1972 Season is STILL the Longest Winning Streak in Professional Sports. This was the Greatest Lakers Team in Lakers History. Not even the Celtics could have stopped this team.

  • To give the New York Knicks Starting 5 a Standing Ovation once they all went to the Bench is just an attribute of how much class Los Angeles Sports Fans have.

  • @Jiltedin2007 used to have. riots this year didn't help their rep.

  • @83tilinfinity And did the entire City of Los Angeles participate in the riots after this previous Lakers Championship? I know that I didn't! I was at home watching it in the news, like a good majority of the entire County(Not City) of Los Angeles. I am not lying when I say that Los Angeles Sports Fans do have class!

  • @Jiltedin2007 Some do, some don't, shouldn't generalize, especially when times have changed. It was a different era and organization when they played at the forum.

  • @83tilinfinity You got a point there! Back in my day, Los Angeles was excited and calm from ever Laker Championship won in the Magic Johnson days of the Lakers. And some of us "Old School People" are still the same we were "Back in the Forum days" as you put it.

But you have to understand, Los Angeles is a Gang Infested City, and the Rioters you are seeing are the Young Gangbanging Punks who probably have nothing else to do but to riot on Los Angeles, and a bunch of Idiots following suit.

  • @Jiltedin2007 Yeah, so much class that when the Cavs blew them out on Christmas they started throwing foam fingers and drinks onto the court. Fucking moron

  • @zodiiak Yeah, I remember that. Everyone has their moments. But people are people, and they do dumb things. Monkey See, Monkey Do!

  • @Jiltedin2007 lol yeah rioting after the finals is a great display too

  • Good! After how many years he has played with the Lakers, and how much he has meant to the team. Elgn Baylor MORE than deserved to get a Ring back in 1972, even if he retired only 9 games into the Season.

And as for Chick Hearn, obviously he got a Ring. Everytime the Lakers won a World Championship(9 during his Broadcasting ERA) Chick Hearn got a Ring with everyone else in the Laker Organization. And I wouldn't be surprised if Dr. Jerry Buss might want to send a Ring to the Hearn Family.

  • At the end of this Video you see a young Pat Riley

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man! is this from the old NBA Highlights! Man, I recognize the music. I used to watch this every Saturday morning. I used to love the slow mo effects. Thanks for posting the memories!!

  • Did Elgin Baylor also get a Ring with the other Lakers that year?

  • In Game 4, Wilt played all 53 minutes (48 minutes + 5 O/T). And so did the KNicks Jerry Lucas. In Game 3 of the series, Happy Hairston and Wilt both recorded 20 rebounds.

  • gin: Thanks for posting. I love the way fans use to charge the court at the end of games like this. At 1:49, is Wilt waving to the crowd or to the fans? It looks like Frazier's tip in is clean, so I don't think he has an argument with the ref.

  • He complained about a push-off by Frazier.

  • Well, if that is what he's complaining about, then again he has no legitimate argument. At 1:41 you can clearly see that no one has boxed out Frazier. He's just waiting for the ball as it hits the rim. Wilt is a few feet away.

  • Wilt's left hand was on Frazier right shoulder trying to push him off but forgot that it was Walt Frazier who is left-handed. Wilt was a bully.

  • Walt frazier was left-handed?? I always assumed he was right handed since he always shot the ball with his right hand throughout his basketball career.

  • He mentioned that he was ambidextrous but he mostly used his right-hand but in lay-ups and drives, he used the left=hand.

  • First world championship IN L.A..6th overall.

  • And the greatest! How I would love to relive 1972 over, and over, and over.
