  • Vinegar actually makes it ALOT worse so don't use it

  • @Yeepzor Definitely true. People treat man o war stings like they would jellyfish stings but these creatures aren't even jellyfish!

  • this burns like theres no tomorrow!!! and felt like my whole leg was going to explode. vinegar helps, worse comes to worse urine!!! =) alohhha!!!

  • @n0r3gretz Even rubbing sand on yourself helps!

  • So this is kind of unrelated to ur video. Im 21 and studying Biology in the States and I was wondering if u know what the job availability for a Biologist/Ecologist is like. I visited NZ one summer, your winter, and loved it specially a research facility on the island of tangalooma its where I first got interested in Bio. and your completely right about it actually being several organisms living in a colony. Cnidarians are crazy.

  • its a man-o-war jellyfish

  • wtf is that? =O

  • yuck! it's like some alien thing that dropped from the sky. like the blob ya know?

  • Doubt it, maybe once or twice, but I'm thinking not at all.

Don't bother trying to prove me wrong, it serves you no good.

  • You got some serious issues man.

  • Are those someone's balls in there?????

  • looks like octopus

  • that looks half like a PMOW, half like a pile of octopus parts xD But in a special part, I can see that it is one, and yes, those have caused deaths. its dangerous, but not as dangerous as the box jellyfish.

  • Actually they colonial hydrazoans

  • Portugeuse Man o' wars are not jellyfish

  • Yep. Its siphonophore

  • yes they are

  • disgusting

  • yeah never seen jellyfish get burned before

  • it's not a jellyfish. it's a colony of polyps and medusoids.

  • iz it a squid ?

  • its a hydrozoan

  • makes it sound like a low fat spread thats really good for you, i beleived the english guy i was with when he told me what it was, he was full of shit at the best of times. overeducated fool!

  • IM PORTUGUESE i bit in in the ass lol xD

  • good move! did it squirt anything on you?

  • It's not a jellyfish, the Portuguese Man o War is actually a colony of small animals. Look it up on Wikipedia.

  • thanks, but that sounds a bit boring and factual. i still beleive in white lies lifting the weight from things and keeping the smiles going : )

  • It's got nothing to do with white lies man. It just looks like a jellyfish. Man o War use to be my favourite jellyfish ever. It's even moreso now that I know it's rather a colony of animals. That's even more fascinating than I thought possible.

Far from boring mate. Far, far from it ;)

  • your right mate, it's amazing what arises sometimes when you look into things. thanks for putting me right, i must have been on daft mode the day i replied the likes of yourself, have a look at the rest of the replies. ridiculous! no offence meant, take care, cheers...

  • Wait it's on the west coast of NZ! OMFG I live in NZ!!!! Shit... I'm taking a road trip next year, and we're heading off that way. Where abouts on the west coast did you go?

  • it was north island, almost parallel with whangarei. forget the name of the place now. the seas wild there you cant do much in it as its too rough, some cracking sights tho. up the east coasts pretty outstanding right up to the far north tip where the two oceans meet, amazing bays and beaches all the way. lived up that way for ages, its amazing!

  • not a jelly fish lol its a relative but not a jelly

  • please believe but i saw one only one at night

gettin washed up on the shore of SC us

  • wow, i wonder if it was the same one?

  • What's that?

  • ehm, its a scary thing which lives in the sea. dont know for sure what it is and yet again the worlds leading experts cant seem to agree on what it is so we're no farther forwards than we were 2 or 3 years ago. sound familiar?

  • I thought portuguese-man-of-war were supposed be one of the larget jellyfish known!?! Or the largest that one seems pretty small.

  • good point, might be a baby one looking for its mum?

  • thats not a octpus its a portuguese-man-of-war and they are very toxic and can still sting even after they die/ washed up on shore

it would be fun to pop the sail and watch it sink..

  • i reckon your right, thats why i was filming and refusing to touch it : )

  • its mutilated, lol! did it hurt when you touched it???o.o.

  • i think it was dehydrated, maybe it had also had too much to drink at the beach bar and couldnt find its way home again, like the cameraman

  • It looks rather sick or something. that's probably why it was washed up on shore. Did you get hurt from touching it?

  • no injuries were sustained during the shoot )

aparantly the sail part isnt poisonous only the tentacles

  • it's a jellyfish. and no, it doesn't go well with ice cream.

  • thats pretty crap cos i loooovve ice cream

  • Iiiich I would never ever dare to touch something like that;S disgusting amimals xD

  • looks delicious.

  • >______< hehehe scary and weird

  • that is one messed up man of war

  • Meh. not every girls afraid of bugs..

and that was pretty cool, ^_^

  • I think I've seen somewhere that studies have shown men to be more logical. Women tend to be more geared toward arts and literature. But this is taking men and women as a whole. If you know anything about statistics, you'd know the average of a group cannot be used to accurately predict how a single case will turn out.

  • lol, it looks like a regergitated man-of-war jellyfish

  • what is that blue thing?

  • jesusss imm suchh a girl when it comes to stuff like that! lol

  • hey whats wrong with being a girl!? D< lol jj >__> but seriously theres nothing wrong unless ur sexist

  • gaara8luv:

Women don't think as logically as men do. For an extremely small-scale example, think of how most women react when they see a bug or something. They freak out. Men know, usually subconsciously, that the bug cannot harm them and that there is no reason to be afraid.

  • Wow, so because of this one measly example you think you can justify that men think more logically than women in general? Why, I believe that would be COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL.

  • Excuse me, I have a tarantula at home, several bugs including cockroaches (my grammostola eats them). I've touched a snake, and I know how potentially dangerous it was, reason why I didn't hold the 3 metre creature.

And, Oh, wow! I'm a woman!

  • christ shut up women make some friggin pies

  • But of course, a man of war gives a much better reason to fear it then a roach does. And of course, it's all subconscious and nothing can be done about it, and there are plenty of exceptions. I'm just pointing out typical behavior.

  • >.<lol xD "christ shut up women make some friggin pies"

  • ah new zealand i love that man o war

  • the splodges are the tentacles and is a species of physalia physalis sixfootdream giv me your msn email i can tell u more abou man o wars

  • Darwin in action...LOL!

  • na, the was life in her. the west coast of nz at that part of the country has the wildest sea ive ever seen. its constantly rising towards the horizon with increasing power heading towards the land, you can hear it in the background. cool name by the way!

  • It's dead...

  • you're crazy!!

    where is her tentacles?

  • tentacles are the blue splodges to the left of her which would untangle once she was put back in the water. if she was dead the inflatable part would have folded as well i reckon, thanks for looking
