@nellek970 Your VMO is very likely to build up contraction knots (trigger points) and fascial adhesions that inhibit proper function. Eventually these dysfunctions will lead to your VMO "giving out" because it cannot handle the load you place on it, sometimes even when you are just walking or standing for too long. Practicing SMR regularly clears out this "junk" that builds up. Good luck with your training!
@jay733 you have pain receptors in your body that get highly sensitized when they don't get good bloodflow. Think of how your foot tingles when it has gone to sleep and it's starting to wake up again. The pain receptors get less sensitive the more often you massage the tissues to improve circulation. You will notice that the pain gets less and less over time with continued SMR and regular massages.
