mind u that jack Dejonette is an amazing pianist himself, and his drumming is following the piano lines & harmonies like no other drumming technique in the world. He is an all-round gr8 gr8 musician
@koolanddagang12 the garbage drummer would be Jack DeJohnette who's played everyone in from Chales Lloyd to Miles Davis to Brecker to Bill Evans and a lot more. I can understand how you can say he is "garbage" it took me a while to really dig what drummers like him do but try to understand the fun and the artistry in a trio or any small combo setting is about the interaction and interplay between each member and for this setting well any setting DeJohnette is simply the best.
@koolanddag.ang12 Have a listen to Jack De Johnette on the" Directions " album with the great Miles Davis. This has anyone who is anyone in jazz & driving the whole thing along is the magic Jack. I am sure you will enjoy this, also listen to him on the album Bitches brew. I am sure you don`t need me to point these out ,I am only reminding you. Enjoy.
Those who can do... those who can't critique... I'm no aficionado enmeshed in technical merits... I'm just a sonic traveler off on vacation racking up frequent flyer miles! I likes!
keith is the greatest pianist of all time. his phrasing is sooo perfect. not one note thats out of place. its really hard to play slow pieces because then you have to connect your melodies a lot better. and his touch. just omg. no one has the same touch as him.
@dudewiththedildoe You find good words to describe Keith Jarrett. Jarrett is absolutly the best pianist! He always knows what he does and that is sooo important for a musician!
Great music played by masters of the craft! Bravo! Thanks for posting music of class and taste... It is so needed instead of today's mindless dribble that the corporate machine rams down our throats!
Keith has all the elements to succeed as a solo, and sideman player. He is carismatic, creative, he does what he thinks is right! He has self esteem that at least looks up! His personal interrelation sucks. He´s an asshole! But when it comes to relashionship with his music fellows, he becomes a sweet player, person. It must be a pleasure to play with him.

it sounds like he's playing a kazoo and a piano at the same time. funny how musicians don't do this crap until they're really famous. miles would have bitchslapped him right off the stage
Man, I wish that the only complaint about my playing was that my emotion distracted from my sheer greatness!! If that's the only problem you have with him, he must be really good!! Listen to it about 60 more times. Then your ears will learn to incorporate the singing into the ambiance of his solo and consider it part of the personality in his ideas. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong, you just have to invest some more time into it before you make a quick conclusion.
you're missing the point. the microphones can always be set up to avoid catching so much of that mouth pollution. you're calling something raw emotion when it is in fact very self conscious. showbiz baby showbiz. i have the same problem with glen gould and he is generally considered the best bach since bach himself.
hahahaha 'kazoo!'. Regardless of ones feelings towards Jarrett's playing, you can't deny that 'noise' he vocalises does sound like a kazoo. (or an injured animal, possibly a cat or some sort of marsupial who's been tied to a fan, and the fan turned on)
@EoN604 Keith's personality sucks. To me that comes through in the music. Check George Benson's 1976 album "Breezin" to see how scat singing SHOULD can enhance rather than detract.
@douglong77 dee du deet deet deet...awwwwwwww...dee...deet deet DEE deeta dee budee budee HUUUUUUUUUUW. Maybe my hearing is just a lot better than yours. I'll stick with Herbie, Tyner, Evans, Gustavsen, and Monk.
@ajdicks well u better not listen to Oscar Peterson or Chic Corea, or any other TRUE genius piano players because u just might her them humming along...by the way, u do make it VERY obvious that u are definitely NOT a player
@douglong77 Oscar and Chick are not ten percent as annoying as Keith nor ten percent as boring. I've played piano for over 30 years. I "get" it. I "understand" it. Keith is simply not in their league...he's a one trick pony. Ironically, i like his soprano sax, organ, and rhodes albums.
@ajdicks OK, I think I get it now too, lol just went to you're profile and I know where ur coming from, its ok, I don't wanna hurt nobodies feel'ns and ur aloud that opinion of course, good luck!
@ajdicks A man who can stride like Tatum, play jazz as free as Ornette, swing with the best of them, release recordings of the Goldberg Variations, not to mention his solo piano improvisations ie: Koln Concert. Yes Jarrett is a one trick pony.... His one trick is that he is in fact the most complete pianist in this generation. Maybe the generation before him and unless someone from mine gets all nutty then arguably the next.
@ajdicks funny how you think miles would have bitchslapped him considering that upon hearing a young 20 something year old Keith Jarrett play Miles begged him to join his electric band. read up on your history before you make snark comments.
I'd like to hear Keith with Chick's rythm section (John P. and D.W.) Unfortunately, that will probably never hapen. I have to confess i've never been crazy about
you just gotta laugh when keith plays something in the middle of his solo (like at 5:44) that would take most pianists weeks just to solve technically...not to mention he's got his eyes closed. god damn it.
Mmhh, I'm sure when you're that naturally gifted and have worked so hard for so much time and enjoyed incredibly what you do, it probably doesn't matter at all whether you're the best or the worst in the world. There probably is only room for humbleness and gratitude.
In other words, there's no way to get to be the best in the world in any field following the empty motive force of 'being the best in the world'. Geniuses like Keith probably use all the time available to work hard, create, and enjoy what they do, not to sad egotistic onanism.
You can get exceptional at something while hating it if you have determination and perseverance - its just far more rewarding and much easier to become amazing at something you enjoy doing. I do think it shows when you enjoy what you are doing - and Keith really is the epitomy of that. To get so lost in the music that you stop focusing on your body control beyond that of manipulating your instrument, and disregarding your surroundings is quite the feat.
No words, only silence !

Keith Jarrett can vocalize as much as he wants, just so long as he plays such fine piano. Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette seem to cope.
