I actually had the same issue. But believe me, stick with it. Its a really really great series.

When I was browsing books at the bookstore, this lady came up to me grabbed the book and said "You should read this, my husband loves the series" and proceeded to shove the book into my hands! If I ever see her again, I will thank her
