  • very good video man....

  • Great Review..!! I would love to see a video on the Gps and IPod.. Hope you reply soon. I'm thinking into getting this exact unit..

  • can u use a sd card with it?

  • would this require professional installation on a standard car without navigation on the dash?

  • Great video--thanks. Just installed a 7140 and my only question is how can I watch videos off my iPod on the head unit? I have the KCA-iP300V and can hear the audio, but can't see any video. Is it a setting on the head unit or my iPod that's off? Thanks..

  • @thinairthumper You need to make sure it's installed properly (the cable that is). If you don't plug in the video and audio cables from the KCA cable into the back of the 7140 you won't get video and audio. I paid a local car audio shop like $50 to make sure it was all done properly and nothing got messed up. It only takes them like 20-30 min so you might find someone that can do it cheaper.

  • Quite good mate

  • can that play cds asweel

  • Nope. Just 8 track and tapes ;)

  • Alex I have a big question, while listening to music either it be on the radio or usb is it possible to have a screen savor show up or turn off the display? my old in dash dvd i have doesn't allow me to turn off or put a different picture and causes a big distraction on brightness while at night which requires me to cover it up with a black cover.

    Thanks bro

  • If you just want to black out the screen for night driving its pretty easy. You just hold down the button second from the right I believe. You can't activate a "screen saver" but if you're just trying to reduce eye strain, this method turns the screen off and works perfectly. I would check and see exactly what button it is but I sold the truck with my DNX-7140 in it and I drive a BMW with i-Drive now. As nice as i-Drive is, I honestly kind of miss a lot of the features from my DNX-7140..

  • on the speaker select option, can you use all the speakers (front/back) all at once? or only front and only back??? how about all the speakers (front/back) AND subs at the same time? sorry that speaker select option got me confused..

  • It lets you turn of speakers if you want but you can play our of all of them. That wouldn't make sense to not let you use all the speakers, sorry if you got that idea.

  • any issue with it freezing up ? iv heard a few things like that but i want to get one

  • I love the RDS feature for the FM sstation on the Kenwood. Sony and Alpine does not have this feature, where as Kenwood it is built in on all their radio.

  • wow dude, u did such a good job in showing me this, that u've got me bought, lol. did better than the actual ads, lol. just wanna check out the nav and iPod a lil better. i was looking at the JVC KW-NX7000 and Piooneer F90BT aswell. i like pioneers iPod connectivity over the jvc, but i think i might get this. did u install urself(as in did u buy online and how much $?)

  • I got it for about $1,000.00 even online. It usually retails a few hundred more than that. I bought it myself and had it professionally installed. Considering it has a mic that needs to be placed as well as a GPS receiver I highly recommend a professional install unless you have a lot of experience.

  • Great review. Just been checking out some in car entertainment and looking at the 7140 and 9140. Have you any experience with the 9140. My main use will be phone and Nav.

Have you any views on the 9140?

    Thanks

  • I like the 9140 but I honestly don't think it's worth the extra money. The display resolution is higher but what good is that without high def inputs? Also, one of the things I like about the 7140 is the smooth screen transitions, especially when you're using the navigation. It "slides" from screen to screen and makes the whole experience seem a little nicer (see my video for a better example of this). Because of the 9140's higher resolution the transitions are "jerky". Small but noticeable.

  • Bit the bullet as i found a good deal online and bought the 9140. Certainly no regrets and cannot really compare to 7140 as i have had no previous experience with any unit like this.

Spend a lot of time in my truck and loving all the variety, the full integration of all the functions is fantastic and being able to switch from radio to sirius to ipod or watch a movie as well as having an hands free phone device and all the other stuff. Really pleased. Thanks for your feed back.

  • Nice video. I've had the 7100 since it came out, and it works just fine. Lately I've been wanting to upgrade, but I've been having a hard time justifying spending the money for a fancier menu. How do you compare the two? Are you A LOT happier with the new unit?

  • If mine wasn't stolen and replaced by my insurance (aka I didn't really have to pay to upgrade it) and I went back to when I had the 7100 with the knowledge I have of the 7140... I dunno man that's a tough call. The navigation is SO MUCH BETTER, I'm talking full on upgrade not just an update.. And the built in Bluetooth is awesome if you have a compatible phone. I just need to post the video I made of the navi working, check back in a bit and watch it then decide for yourself.

  • Do you still have your 7100?

  • Nope. I was in Vegas and sometime during the night someone broke out my back window, cut himself crawling through the hole, bled all over the inside of the car, busted my dash out, and stole the 7100. Luckily I have full coverage and the insurance company replaced it, so at the end of the day I got the brand new model (and everything else fixed) for $260.00 (the deductible).

  • geeez. Vegas is where I ilve. Is theft of these something I should be largely concerned about? My windows are pretty tinted... Should I make sure to get an indash that detaches you think?

  • I won't leave my truck parked overnight in Vegas anymore. When I drive down I just take a different car. The last time I HAD to leave it I slept on the backseat because I was so worried about it. My windows are tinted as well and the truck is lifted pretty far off the ground so I don't even know how they saw it. If I lived there I would invest in an after market car alarm. Get one that goes off when someone bumps or even just gets too close to your vehicle. It should only cost ~$300-$400.

  • Great video review! I also search youtube for reviews of double din navs only to usually find the lack of decent videos. You made a great review here that alot of technical people can appreciate. I have a iphone 3Gs and I appreciate the info for using the streaming radio app, all through bluetooth. When you connect the iphone via usb does it lock out your app controls though?

  • Quick question for you, basically Im looking for a good efficient way to actually search though my iPod form the unit by typing the song/artist. I was reading the reviews on the 7140 which claims that alphabet search is included. My question is can I type in the whole song/artist or only the beginning letter of the song/artist. I own a 160 GB Classic and its nearly impossible to find a certain song on my JVC KW-NX700. OH And excellent video thanx

  • I'm usually not a fan of taking control away from the iPod when selecting music because the interface works so well. That said I'm actually not too unhappy with Kenwood's interface. It's fast and the alphabet search helps a lot when sorting through thousands of songs/artists. It only lets you type the first letter but it scrolls fast enough after that to make it work. Find a local car audio shop and bring your iPod in to see for yourself if it works any better before you buy one.

  • Were you ever able to get your iphone to work with your old 7100? I have a itouch and no matter what I do It wont play audio or video, I did all the updates on the itouch and the 7100

  • I thought I already wrote a reply to this, sorry if this is a repost. I assume you're plugging your iTouch directly into the USB port. This will let you control the iTouch and see all the song/video titles but you won't be able to hear/view them (as you've already found out). What you need to do is purchase Kenwood's proprietary iPod/iPhone cable. It has cables that plug in to give you audio and video along with USB for controlling/charging. I believe you need the: KCA-iP300V. It costs ~$30.

  • Oh buddy I have so many questions for you

  • How can i change the logo and add pic?

  • The instructions are too lengthy to post here but just do a search on Google and you'll find plenty of sites explaining in detail how to do both.

Both methods require a USB flash drive and make sure your pictures have a resolution of 480 x 234 or they won't look right. If you don't already have the software or know how to change a picture's resolution you can find free image resizing websites on Google.

  • Sick video, i just bought the same unit today and have been too lazy to read through the manual, so its nice to watch a video walkthrough. Look forward to seeing more videos.
