Harris kept singing it wrong, as "MacArthur's Park". Songwriter Jimmy Webb tried and tried to correct him but finally gave the hell up. It was inspired by a breakup between Webb and girlfriend Susan Ronstadt, who often met there to canoodle. Another song, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", also came out of the breakup.

MacArthur Park is actually somewhat of a craphole, notorious for drugs and gang violence. Several dead bodies and a cache of guns and weapons have been fished out of the lake.
