  • simply haunting

  • genius..just geniusnot much more to say

  • i dont really get why this is voted one of the worst songs ever. Its not great but its not bad...

  • I'm deaf but I really like this song

  • Over the years everyone who claimed to have never been brokenhearted claim that they can't relate to this song nor understand what it's about.

  • lost love..................... All the emotions, The cake is a symbol.... Melting love ...after all the passion! We all have one! Susan Brammell was mine............. Western Michigan University 1968

  • can you not hear the intense PAIN when he says OHHHHH NOOOOOO! <3 i love this and my jazz band

  • i was singing macarhur park and i got to the part where you'll never have the recipe again and it slipped outta my hand and broke. my parents looked at me like i smashed the ten commandments!

(thums up if u get the refrence :)

  • where's the orange sunshine when you need it???

  • 4:57-6:32 could actually be a really cool song all by itself!

  • This song had me in tears this morning, thinking about my divorce and how things have never been the same since. It calls up more memories than I care to feel.

  • @MrBrindlefly Sorry, I know how it is because I go through these situations from time to time ... but that is the function of music, thrill us, enthrall us, show us ourselves. My marriage ended a few years now and so many, from time to time there are even things that remind me of it, that brings memories of my ex-husband and marriage ... but it will pass, believe me. Go out, go for a walk, talk to someone ... Stay well! Embrace from here, the distant Brazil.

  • @luxlunna You are very sweet. The song brought out some sorrow I carry with me, but almost every day I am fine. Thank you. You are in my thoughts.

  • It Is dumb.....too much LSD!

  • we Philipinos can rest assured every evening that we do not eat sushi because of that great man General MacArthur. rest in peace Sir!

  • love d vibration of richard harris voice in this song.. don't know whether he purposely did it, or he nervous.. but it consistent, n suit with the song...

  • Here in Cleveland back in the 1970's on WJW television, this was the actuall theme for the "City Camera News".

  • I'm sorry for saying this but I like this sog ore as a so bad i's good sort of song

  • Hit #1 on the Australian pop chart for 2 weeks in Aug 1968

  • This song is beautiful and very profound. The uneducated can not understand.

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again....this song is as dumb as monkey in a microwave...

  • @pyrofella

The "monkey in the microwave" makes you look like Albert Einstein.

  • MacArthur , True hero, We South koreans can enjoy democracy and freedom beacuse of this great man R.I.P General MacArthur.

  • Only and I mean ONLY Richard Harris could sing this song.

  • Impresionante la versión....

  • It's a "Defining Moment".

  • For many people you have to listen only to the melody to enjoy the song, the lyrics to others, possibly... I for one think this song is a classic, no matter what.

  • May God takes the dislikes soon

  • this might be a good wedding song lol

  • Damn this takes me back; Harris made some good films. Irish tough guy.

  • I can't stop thinking Dumbledore singing that... 10 point to Gryffindor!

  • That feeling, when you just can't get a picture of Dumbledore singing this out of your mind, while listening.

  • Comment removed

  • this is brilliant!!! the lyrics are both ridiculous and heartfelt... loving it!!!

  • I like the weird al version alot better lol.

  • another song for my parents, when my M realized it was time to leave my D...

it affects me more than my own divorce...

  • @ Tonypeters,..... i havce watched this video many time, i like it, thanks for the post,......

  • Someone left the keg out in the rain.

  • 4:57 ... the best part begins :D

  • @6:10 did he eat all the cake?

  • i think he should be more worried that because of this song people got eaten by dinosaurs more than losing a cake, but that's just me

  • People either really love this song or hate it. Very little middle ground. I LOVE and have since April, 1968 I could listen to it 10 times a day everyday. Jimmy Webb at his best. He just could never get Harris to say the title correctly instead of "MacArthur's Park", like Harris kept insisting

  • I'm gonna be honest, this song isn't that bad, the lyrics are just silly.

  • @krakelak but it is the silly lyrics that make the song a masterpiece ;)

  • @diessel1303 To me, the lyrics are a masterpiece.I found a deep meaning to this song which possibly only applies to my own life experiences. I think that the confusing lyrics cause the listener to dig deep into their life to try and understand what the song means. Also, I don't believe that the genius Jimmy Webb would write a song about nothing.

  • The best waht can one say!

  • dave barry proved that this is the worst song ever revorded

  • @messydesk98 The readers of Rolling Stone would disagree with you. They said "Yummy yummy yummy" by Ohio Express was far worse.

  • Elvis used to laugh so much at this one lol

  • Many comments on the Rolling Stone website say that this is the WORST song of the 1960s ever made! Worse than "Revolution 9" or "In The Year 2525".

  • @Halpin2006 Revolution 9 is awesome. I love that song.

  • I like this version, and Steve Wright on BBC radio 2 on 11/11/ 11 had the ordasity to say it was rubbish. If you ever heard that show it is so puerile and he sings and talks over records. Get rid of Steve wright on Radio 2, he is the one who is shit!

  • 137 people left the cake out in the rain

  • YES ITS AN OK SONG, BUT HARDLY A "CLASSIC". MEANDERING, PRETENTIOUS WITH FALSE SINCERITY AND A CUMBERSOME MELODY AND LYRIC!!!

  • @MrGeorgios2020

The fact that you stated that in all caps destroyed any credibility that comment may have had.

  • @MrGeorgios2020 I can't wait to hear what you say about rap music!

  • Worst song ever? Hardly.

  • This guy never took his cake and ate it!! ;p

  • great film clip i have to say

  • I actually prefer the Priscilla Queen of the Desert version...

    *don't hit me!*

  • there was one story which was harris was lying down drunk on the sidewalk, a cop came by and asked what are you doing?, harris said my world is spinning, the cop asked how is laying in the street going to help? then harris said i'm wating for my house to spin by :)

  • "I don't think that I can take it, 'cause it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again! OH, NO!" I can really relate to this. :(

  • @MementoMario I have always loved this song and those lyrcis, my antidote is taken from Kiplings "If".

    "

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

    "

Put another way "Aegroto dum anima est, spes est" (Look it up)

And even in "MacArthur Park" Harris goes on to say "there will be another love for me, someone will bring it.

  • @GarryJones61 Thank you for that comment, I appreciate it immensely :)

  • @MementoMario life can be full of oh no and ine was, lets go for 2012 oh yes, lets try

  • One of the greatest love songs ever written based on a failed romance. You either get it or you don't. If you don't get it then you have no passion or imagination.

  • @drsteerforth It's a good song, but it relies too much on bizarre metaphor for many people's taste. What happened to a love song that talked directly about love?

Don't get me wrong, the singing's great, but cake represents romance? What? I get it...but it makes no sense regardless.

  • gives me goose bumps every time, what a classic by a classical man!!

  • Great song.

  • they don't write 'em like that no more!

  • A real classic!

  • I dont understand the Harry Potter reffernces people post, can someone explain?

  • @DarkAtHearts

Richard Harris played "Dumbledore", who was like the Merlin or Gandalf of the "Harry Potter" series. It was one of Harris' last movie roles before passing away in 2002

  • @DarkAtHearts Richard Harris played Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts and therefore one of the key characters, in the first two film adaptations of the Harry Potter series. He was then replaced by Michael Gambon after his death.

  • I want this song to be the new Rickroll...

  • Alas . . . earwax.

  • THE CAKE IS A LIE!

It had to be said. :)

  • @horrorfilmsfan100 no it didn't

  • first time i heard this song was about 4 years ago and i fell in love with it. a true classic!

  • TerrySleeper, It's allegorical dumbo.

  • What a beautiful song and sung so well.

  • This is one of those powerful songs that reminds me of being five years old, my aunt and uncle in their twenties. Life is full of joy. Now they are gone and for whatever reason this song is like a knee in the groin. Only worse.

  • i actually grew-up near the park.used to go there and play over the line.great memories, love the music, but i never really care for the lyrics.from what i hear the park is again a family place to enjoy.it is a beautiful setting.thanks tony,by the way,you must be from the uk.?

  • 10 points to Gryffindor!

  • It's like the 1970s version of "Surrounded by Silence" by Design the Skyline

I love listening to songs that are considered the worst ever made x)

  • Fuckin Dumbledore

  • Looks as A Coruna Spain. Isn't right?

  • Looks as A Coruna Spain. Isn't right?

  • This song is so odd and quirky that I could actually imagine Albus Dumbledore singing it.

  • Google Justin Hayward - MacArthur Park if you want to hear a nice version by the Moody Blues lead singer. He even hits the high notes at the end. Justin Hayward and Moody Blues surely an underrated band.

  • When I hear this, all I can think of is Jurassic Park for some reason...

  • @YungReg88 subtle Weird Al reference right there!

  • This guys a bit melodramatic isn't he? I mean jesus its just a cake!

  • @gillyssquashball the cake is a metaphor

  • @painlessissuicide Well it doesn't matter what sort of cake it is, its still a cake!

  • @gillyssquashball do you even know what a metaphor is?

the song is about a failed relationship

the cake is a wedding cake

they were going to be married in the park, but she left him at the last minute

and on top of everything else that's gone wrong, now it's starting to rain

  • lol i dont think i can take it either

  • Cleverbot quoted this song and lead me here.

  • *gag*

  • EPIC! But also thoroughly entertaining. Must be a great song for a DJ to play if he needs to sneak off for a poo.

  • Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark!!!

  • @CriticalKidChannel

Thank you. Thank you so much. I forgot why I knew this song. Thank you.

  • Richard hit #2 in Billboard, 6-22-68. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week. RIP, Richard.

  • @DaveWollenberg AND RICHARD AND THE WRITER FELL OUT WITH ONE ANOTHER OVER THIS SONG

  • Always thought Justin Hayward of Moody Blues should do a remake of MacArthur's Park.

  • @whitegxp He did, actually... look it up!

  • Looks like that guy on the left at 7:00 is raving crazily to this song! XD

  • Fantastic

  • SORRY ,THE MUSIC TO THIS SONG.

  • WHO EVER WROTE THIS MUSIC IS A GENIUS !

  • this place is teeming with all sorts of things

    The Vagabond Theater

Lafayette Park and the Park Plaza and the welfare offices

and a gay porn theater that predates most people reading this

    really good pastrami sandwiches

  • Funny ..I live on that lake

  • definitely a blast from the past - great to hear it again.

  • such a beautiful haunting song.......

  • if u don't know y u like this, then i will tell u - it is a beautiful song! the melody is so pretty and the words are very interesting.

  • People snip at this song, yet for me it's the song my mother played all the time just before my parents' divorce.

Sums up the marriage too well, at least from a perspective of 30 years later.

  • Great song.

  • Just about my favourite song ever, and can't say specifically why!!..Just ticks all the right boxes for me...has the right ingredients. Thanks for sharing and for the lovely vidoe!

  • very likely the best renditstion of these ,

  • Oh my god ALL I CAN HEAR IS WEIRD AL'S COVER!!! :(

  • Like the Small Faces itchycoo Park this one's has a zeitgeist about it. It evokes feelings & memories of an era very well. The world was a better, simpler place then

  • This song makes me soooo happy :))

  • So---where's the suggestion for Weird Al's "Jurassic Park"?

  • I don't where all your vitriol comes from squirell but Richard Harris was a talented actor who had a very successful career. What have you done?

I love this used to sing along with this on the drive to work on an early Monday from my girl friend's house. Tony Blackburn put the records at the time, pure nostalger.

  • THE LATE RICHARD HARRIS WAS NOTHING SHORT OF A FUCKING ALCOHOLIC. IF HE DIDN'T HAVE THE KINDS MONEY HE HAD, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SLEEPING UNDER PARK BENCHES WITH ALL THE OTHER FUCKING WINOS, INTINERANTS ETC. IN LIMERICK/LIMNOCK CITY. END OF STORY. AND THE REASON HE WASN'T CREMATED IN HIS BELOVED LIMNOCK IS BECAUSE OF THE MONEY HE LEFT BEHIND IN THE BAHAMAS. THAT IS WHY HE WAS INCINERATED IN BAHAMAS. TAX PURPOSES, YOU SEE.

HIS KIDS INHERITED IT TAX FREE.

  • @squirell1952 What is your problem with the Alcoholic so long they dont harm asshole people like you, are you Jealous of Richard Harris HE IS GREATER THAN YOU, have you been known even in your own pathetic village YOU ARE NOTHING you are an antagonist person, THERE IS A REASON BEHIND WHY PEOPLE BECAME ALCOHIC YOU DONT HAVE TO CONDEMN THEM, BY THE WAY WHAT HAVE YOU CONTRIBUTED TO THE WHOLE SOCIETY ? NOthing , Richard Harris have made people Happy wiht his Movies and songs YOU R PATHETIC PERSON

  • @squirell1952 RICHARD HARRIS is far more better than you , i guess you are looking also Harry Potter and by your ignorance you dont know even who was Dumbledore is was Richard Harris HE IS A TALENTED ACTOR + he can sing but you what can you do? Nothing but criticize other with your bloody stinking bleeding tongue YOUR ARE A PATHETIC PERSON if you are greater than Richard Harris perhaps you can say negative words BUT YOU ARE NOTHING EVEN YOUR OWN FAMILY DONT EVEN KNOW YOU ASSHOLE, PIPE DOWN

  • @squirell1952 Richard Harris was one of the Best actor lots of good to great movies he has made as the leading man and about this song this was a great song YOU SQUIRELL952 have really an squirell brain ignorant not only in USA but in Oceana -southeast asia- and Western Europe this song was known since it was release, AND WHAT THAT YOU AGAINST AN ALCOHOLIC they have problem that they can not handle or tackle some just plainly fell down wihtout knowing it ,Richard harris have than better things

  • @squirell1952 Sounds like you have a pretty angry and frustrated life......doesn't it?. I guess you'd rather hear a song that you could personally relate to......how about FAILURE?.... I think you'd know all the lyrics to that one.....wouldn't you???

  • As those of us who were contemporaries of this song are(I hope) aware, it was/is a brilliant, metaphoric breakup song. If one is looking for meaningless,IMO, one need look no further than the accompanying video!

  • Someone left the cake out in the rain.

  • Only a fool would not understand the meaning of this song.

  • "Embedding disabled by request" If you want to kill music, that's a great first step.

Thanks for upping this great song, but why take that extra step to limit the audience?

  • @Audacy This was rated the worst song ever by... almost everyone

  • @Wafflesmart

Yes! It's 'Plan Nine From Outer Space' wonderful. When they dig up our cities 35,000 years from now they should have to listen to this.

  • @Wafflesmart Rubbish !

  • @JessieJ243 No one has the authority or the egotistical right to call any music crap! It's just something you don't personally like. Only juveniles resort to personal abuse, usually because they're not educated enough to hold a civil debate.

  • @GEMINISTWIN1 Respectfully disagree. Anyone has the right to call todays status and bling obsessed music shite.

  • @tcvicesquad Having the right, doesn't make them right, there's lot's of music I don't like, but it doesn't mean it's rubbish, all music means something to someone, denying that is pure snobbery.

  • Someone left the cake out in the rain and all the sweetcream icing flowing down.........and I will never have the recipe again..

There will be another song for me...because I will sing...

There will be another dream for me..

    Someone will bring it......

    These are inspirational words...

And..after all the loves of my life..You will still be the one...and I will be wondering why......

This is pure life's mystery at its best....It is the story of man, love and loss..STUPIDS can't undrstand

  • @JessieJ243 your the weirdo actually. go wank off to your shitty rap crap and emo shit.

  • @burtonrules123 Yes!!!

  • @Alice31497 richard harris played dumbledore in the first two movies.

  • Comment removed

  • Harris kept singing it wrong, as "MacArthur's Park". Songwriter Jimmy Webb tried and tried to correct him but finally gave the hell up. It was inspired by a breakup between Webb and girlfriend Susan Ronstadt, who often met there to canoodle. Another song, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", also came out of the breakup.

MacArthur Park is actually somewhat of a craphole, notorious for drugs and gang violence. Several dead bodies and a cache of guns and weapons have been fished out of the lake.

  • @HaggisMcCrablice maybe thats why its frightening in the dark?

  • He will always be "A Man Called Horse" to me.

  • lol i love this song but i must say i love jurassic park better! best parody ever!

  • MacArthur's park (plural) is a misnomer. It's MACARTHUR PARK stupid.

  • Thumbs up for arm-swinging fat guy at the end of the video.

  • thumbs up if you're trying to picture dumbledore singing this.

  • Written during the Kennedy era (ie. John and Bobby), and we, all of us alive during those confusing days, when their precious lives evaporated - us, alive then, were left wondering and hoping (helplesly). After Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Clinton, and those I choose not to name, I stil ask, "WHY"? Keep hopping, knowing MacArthur's Park is gone!!!!

  • It's all about memories and those memories are mostly lost love and regret. As one ages the memory becomes that mystical smile no one can interpret.

  • MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark..... never have that recipe again... cake out in the rain... life is only lived once... epic song about a persons willingness to accept personal accountability, retrospective as it is...

  • I guess Transformers never makes observations in and around his life, just like a horse traveling through life with blinders on. it is a song about the the road we have traveled in life and all the memories.

  • transformer, its the melody u crumb snatcher!!!

  • This has the most pathetic lyrics of any song I've ever heard. "Someone left the cake out in the rain"? Lol. What the hell?!

  • True art? Really, true art??

  • I came here because in memory of the Blue Ice Climber

  • I visited MacArthur Park about 10 years ago. I have never seen such filth everywhere in the park-trash, garbage. etc , not even in other parts of the Southland. So sad.

  • Why?! My poor cake?! It took so long to bake it! 'Who left the cake out?! Herp! Derp! A-derp! Who left the cake out?! Who? Who? Who? Who? Who?"

  • wow, Dumbledore could really sing!

  • Oh yeah, this song makes little or no sense. The arrangement is breath-taking. It beats the hell out of Donna Summer's. I remember it on the radio when I was a kid. We all took music like this for granted, like it would never end - we were wrong. Support live music! I could listen to this all day long.

  • THE CAKE IS A LIE

  • I listened and I listened - This guy is an a**hole - strictly based upon his subservient attitude towards women - I mean, what the hell is he talking about but emasculation? Get a freakin life

  • I really want GLEE to cover this song.

  • Seems that Richard was the perfect 1 to interpret Jim's last part of his cantatata.

  • Please already,what a pile of Dross

  • @eddietheturdburglar Shut up diphead.

  • a fantastic song...I remember when I first heard it in '70 and have never forgotten... brilliant musical poem... thanks for upload

  • fairplay to you likewallsin spring ,you just smacked this egit in the head with some (comeon back down to Earth) Cake ?? HUH I thought he left it in the rain

  • ...Dumbledore?

    Is that you?

  • @purplepiethief yes, he was...

  • Dumbledore what happened?
