And what you say about the Deutsche Grammophone, I can't believe they would end his contract just because he showed up at a tv-show about pop music. It just makes no sense... From what I heard and read, they ended his contract, because they just caught Lang Lang for a contract and found it unnecessary to have two young Chinese pianists on their label.
And I don't know where you read the story about the member of the jury at the Chopin Concours, but I find it very strange and hard to believe that someone can react like that on such normal thing. If the story is true, I believe the person doesn't love the music as he should. Because if he would, he should be very happy to see a pianist who is able to reach young people and bring them in contact with classical music
But I know a lot of pianists do feel the need. Especially the younger generation of pianists, who try to reach a larger audience by the media. For example Lang Lang, whether you like him or not. He brings people in contact with his music by giving a lot of masterclasses which find place at a place as a shopping center, where people who normally don't listen to this kind of music, hear the beauty of it.
If they all went to classical concerts, 'at the proper time and place', there was no need for such thing. And the fact that the pianists you named, have never played in a shopping center, which has not to be, necessarily, because I know you don't follow all these pianists everyday to know exactly where they played and where they didn't, is no reason for Yundi li, not to play where he wants. Not every pianist find the need to bring the regular person in contact with classical music.
Who says there 'has' to be a proper time or place for classical music? That's just a ridiculous statement. The whole point of what I said was, that he, as a great pianist, is able to reach the regular person, who never listens to this kind of music.
thats so sad to watch yundi becoming somehow pop-classical star... it looks like he was playing in shopping center or somewhere... ale flashes from cameras...
@mx19idlewilder just because he and jay chou are good friends doesn't mean he's turning into a pop-classical star. Can't you see his passion? Maybe it's not even a concert, it was just a venue. Who knows.
@mx19idlewilder even if he did play in a shopping center or somewhere, isn't it good that he tries to bring people in contact with classical music? As a famous pianist he's able to really make people listen to his music, and make people appreciate the beauty of classical music.
yeah but classical music isn't a popular music - there have to be proper time and proper place for classical music. especially if we're talking about great pianist. did you ever see zimerman, blechacz, argerich or pollini playing in shopping center? during last chopin piano comp. one of the members of jury was digusted as he show yundi in some pop-show or something in tv.
even DG didn't want to continoue working with him so now he's recording for EMI.
Such concentration power -- all those cameras sticking into his face and people standing/moving so closeby while he obviously needed to concentrate of a great piece of music by a genius composer. I just heard Kssin' s performance of the same pece-- Yundi is so much better. The right pace!! Kissin was toooooo slow. His playing took 10 minutes!!
